[Repeater-Builder] Re: VHF Duplexer problem - help?

2006-12-21 Thread ve1aic
HI Dave,
Those small piston caps are known to fail mechanically as well as
electrically. Usually you can tell because they don't feel as smooth
and don't tune as 'linear' as good ones.
Sometimes it seems like they have a 'bad spot'.

When they are bad like that, you can still get them to appear to work
100% on generator tests but they will cause all sorts of QRM once you
put some power into them.

The caps are easy to replace and are available from Sinclair...I think
the price was around $12cdn but its been awhile. There was a guy in
Ont. selling complete sets of loops and caps on Ebay.(VHF ones)
Have also had to replace them on UHF duplexers.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: E-prom Reader-Writer for Phoenix

2007-01-13 Thread ve1aic
I agree Rick the kg4lne programmer is best. I bought the bare board
and software 2 yrs ago and works 100%. All parts were cheap and
available from Digi-Key.
Great to have a solid program that works on XP and can save multiple
configurations with comments in each memory channel...very handy.

I see he is working on a 2212 emulator as well since the old EEproms
are getting hard to find.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: IFR 1100S Service Monitor

2007-06-10 Thread ve1aic
Hi Scott, I've had my 1100S for over a year now and it works great.
I have the 1000S service manual..no one seems to have a 1100s manual.
What is your question?

[Repeater-Builder] Re: micor squlch gate card problem?? help please

2004-05-31 Thread ve1aic
Randy the sq gate mod usually takes COS from Q18 the transistor that
does audio muting. (At front/middle of the card near JU10)
Its a general purpose NPN M9642, you can pull one from an old card or
probably try 2N3904 etc to get it going..not sure on the sub. You can
check the operation of this transistor with a VOM on jumper J10. This
should be around 12v sq'd and near 0v when unsquelched. You can also
check to see if the card's squelch circuit is working by checking
board pin 9 which should be about 8v sq'd and near 0v unsquelched.

Thanks for posting this.
Dave was one of the great ones. Remember him from the early packet days as well
as building a great computerized repeater system in London, ON.
A sad loss for Amateur Radio.
