Hi Everyone,
We are setting up a project in Manila and would like to ask some help with
information about a good repeater duplexer.
I saw one in Ebay, (Sinclair Q2220E VHF BpBr Repeater Duplexer).
Is this a good type of duplexer and would work on a typical repeater setup? We
will use it on a VXR7000. The Repeater Frequency will be at 144.880 - 0.600.
Any information will be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

[Repeater-Builder] 2 meter repeater

2009-06-02 Thread John Poindexter
Hi again,

I found out that the ham building our repeater is using a GE Master II.

He suggested we use a G7-144. Our antenna will be mounted on top of the tower
at either 60 or 70 feet, as we getting a newer tower than the 35 foot one that
is up now.

Does anybody think that the G7 will not hold up being top mounted?

I have read the comments here about current the antenna question on the G7-220
and have read the G7-144 reviews on eham, which run both ways.

Now I am looking for actual repeater owners' comments, which I would value more
than the eham ones.

Hopefully, we will have it up and running by July.

The funny thing is our users will be shocked when they can get into it easily
with a handheld as he wants to run it from his location for awhile to make sure
all the bugs are out. His antennas are at the 350 foot level and only 20 miles
west of us.

I am afraid they will be disappointed when we go to the lower level.

Thanks for all the advice.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] 2 meter repeater [1 Attachment]

2009-06-02 Thread Mike DeWaele
John,

I'm e-mailing this directly as well as the group so the attachment comes
through (I think yahoo strips them off). I'm using a hustler G-7 on 2 meters
and a G-6 on 440 machine. Both have been up on the tower for 2 years. Both
have worked fine with no problems. They both are mount on a cross bar out
from the tower with no top support. I'm located in up-state NY york and our
winters are pretty rough on antennas. I did made a couple of changes to them
however. First throw out the cheap radials that come with it and go to the
hardware store and buy some solid alum tubing. I learned this the hard way
as the one's that come with it are howl tubing. after the birds sit on it or
it gets iced up once they break off. Secondly once you get it all tuned
Krylon makes a clear coat spray paint. Spray the whole thing a couple of
times. Does wonders protecting it from the UV rays. I've attached a picture
of the tower with the antennas on it.

Good luck with your repeater.

I am not much of a fan of the Mexican made DB-224E. Having said that, what
are your options? Telewave has a HAM discount of 30% off list, but that still
puts their equivalant at well over what the going rate for the 224E is. What
about RFS Cellwave or Sinclair? Even more costly. Some say you get what youi
 pay for.

Back to the Mexican 224E, still a worthy contender. I just installed one and
a couple of it's A and B sisters over the past few months. I had to replace 2
less than 4 years old. One was in good condition despite an obvious
lightening hit. Customer just wanted to spend money on a new Sinclair
antenna. The other one had somehow gotten water inside the N male connector
at the end of the harness. The water got inside the hot glue heat-shrink and
then inside the N female on the Heliax. Needless to say, that didn't work too
 well.

If you go with the 224, just make sure to tighten all terminal nuts and
weatherproof all the connectors and joints well. Don't assume that the
heatshrink with hot glue inside will keep water out. Inspect all factory
moldings carefully and take appropriate measures if you have the slightest
 question about it.

If you do, you should get years of good service out of the Mexican
 Commscope/Andrew DB-224E.

OK not to open a can of stinky worms..but...

I need to buy a NEW 2 Meter Repeater Antenna.

I am asking for suggestions. I have heard bad things about the now

across the boarder assembled Andrew/DB Prod. Antennas.

The 139-150 Split version is available and in stock from Tessco List

is $730.00. (and yes I know it can be bought a lot cheaper)

And please no suggestions about Diamond or any of the HAM made

antennas. These are very poor Repeater Antennas and will not stand up

to Mountain top ice and wind. Not to mention their poor performance

 and noisy Duplex operation.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] 2 Meter Repeater Antenna Suggestions

2009-04-13 Thread Eric Lemmon
Tim,

One of the very important factors is to consider your intended coverage
area; do you need 360-degree coverage, or is your repeater site off to one
side? It is not good planning to put up an omnidirectional antenna, if your
intended coverage area is mostly in one direction. A twin dipole with both
loops facing in the same direction will give you a cardioid pattern that
provides excellent coverage over nearly 180 degrees, plus has smooth
vertical coverage for close-in users that may be under the beam of a
fiberglass antenna. I have two such VHF antennas in service now, and I
would never consider using a fiberglass collinear antenna in those
applications. Such dipole antennas are made by Sinclair and Decibel
Products, to name two makers.

It sounds like you are looking for something that is all ready to go - plug

I assume you are talking 2 meter antennas, if so about one of the
best commercial antennas you could use is the DB products 224. This
antenna has 6DB gain omni directional or 9DB in one direction if
configured for that mode. This antenna is virtually lightning immune
due to grounded construction. We have a converted recycled commercial
db224 which has been up 5+ years on top of a 150ft water tank with no
maintenance required to date. The cost is about $500 from Tessco with
the antenna cut to the 2 meter band.
Best of luck in your endevor.
