[Repeater-Builder] Motorola Rib
I am in need of the pin out connections for the RJ 45 to DB 25 cable used with a Motorola Rib I have searched the RB site but can't seem to find it. Thanks in advance.. Ralph, W7HSG

Re: [Repeater-Builder] MOTOROLA Rib Error
Mine went intermittent as well. Turns out they only soldered two contacts on the DB25 (RIB-to-radio) connector pins 14-25 row, and both of these cracked under the strain of holding the connector to the small circuit board. The pins 1-13 row had almost all of its contacts soldered. They were counting on the solder joints for mechanical strength. I just re-soldered every terminal and made sure things were tight. If I were designing one of these, I'd use plated-thru holes, a right-angle connector, and attach it to the circuit board. If that was too expensive, I'd make sure all 25 contacts of the DB25 were soldered to the circuit board, rather than just two on one side and about 10 on the other. Thanks to Eric, Bob and all who gave me input to consider. I ill try some conversions and hope for the best. 73 JIM KA2AJH _ From: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jim Cicirello Sent: Saturday, May 12, 2007 8:52 PM To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com Subject: [Repeater-Builder] MOTOROLA Rib Error Hi Guys, I am having an intermittent programming problem with my Motorola Rib Box. RE: [Repeater-Builder] MOTOROLA Rib Error
Ive had that error before and it was because of the software a few times and the battery a few times also.. but I see you said your battery was good.. hhhmm. _ From: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jim Cicirello Sent: Saturday, May 12, 2007 8:52 PM To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com Subject: [Repeater-Builder] MOTOROLA Rib Error Hi Guys, I am having an intermittent programming problem with my Motorola Rib Box. RE: [Repeater-Builder] MOTOROLA Rib Error
Jim, In my limited experience with non-Motorola RIBs, the most common problems are due to an incorrect bias voltage on pin 4. Look at the schematic of the Motorola RLN4008 RIB here: www.repeater-builder.com/motorola/rss/rln4008schem.gif Notice the two series resistors that create the bias for pin 4. Since the RIB is essentially a bidirectional TTL-to-RS232 level converter, it is important that the data rides on the correct DC level and is of the proper amplitude and polarity. It is possible that your clone RIB uses wide-tolerance resistors that don't create the correct bias. Or, it may be that your clone RIB uses a technique to multiplex the data that the radio doesn't like. Since your RIB works most of the time, I suspect that the wiring is fine, but there is probably a timing or voltage issue that is borderline. Some Motorola radios- the HT1000 comes to mind- are extremely picky about voltage levels, and frequently do not respond to aftermarket RIBs. Yeah, I know, $200 is a lot to spend for what seems to be a very basic device. Nevertheless, my genuine Motorola RIB always works with every radio I connect to it. I cannot say that about the several clone RIBs I have tried- but it might just be the luck of the draw... YMMV. 73, Eric Lemmon WB6FLY -Original Message- From: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jim Cicirello Sent: Saturday, May 12, 2007 5:52 PM To: Repeater-Builder@yahoogroups.com Subject: [Repeater-Builder] MOTOROLA Rib Error Hi Guys, I am having an intermittent programming problem with my Motorola Rib Box. Can anyone Please tell Me What the Rating and the Polarity of the Center pin is on the Motorola RIB RLN4008B , Tired of worrying if the 9 volt batter gets weak while reading the radio . Happy Holidays Don KA9QJG PS I will not tell Big M who gave me the Info Ha Ha
Re: [Repeater-Builder] Motorola RIB
If you look at the RIB schematic (see the RSS page here) you will see that it's tip positive and that all three sources are wired together through diodes - the power jack, the 9v battery and the external power pin (from the radio cable - a lot of mobiles like the Spectra have switched +12 on the programming connector just to power the RIB while it is programming the radio). As such ANYTHING from 9 to 12v as long as it is well filtered DC will work. I use a 12v 750ma on mine just because I had it... Even though there is 10uf across the DC power input I added a series choke and a 50uf to ground on the wall-wart port of mine. As I said, it's pretty obvious from the schematic.
