did you clear and rescan after that change?
Believe me if your thinking is right then it woulndnt make sense to give
a user that way to choose.

eg i have the whole Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape that means i have a bunch
of albums with "one artist only in the whole library" and thats why i
know to use the one list option is the solution.

Sounds like your using the 2 list option in the settings musik tab (1.st

Change it to 1 list and do a rescan

No he was using a NTFS Partition where the 8.3 filename support was
disabled.
And here he shows how to enable it again and add the 8.3 filenames to

Code:

so the question is should you see two Carmina Burana or only one.

See more than one even there is just a single one there:
Check files for their paths.
Check for "Carmina Burana " instead of "Carmina Burana"

And last but not least check for only one - not more tags. id3v2.3 not
id3v1.x or ape whatever.

btw:
"Carl Orff" and "Orff" are (databasewise) two different artist/composer.

LMS always "thinks" the later ones are always Compilations. Unless there
is no other hint like Albumartist or compilations tag the first one cant
be a compilation.

There might be a better solution but unless you have a very good idea
how to handle it and the skills to type the code for that handling we
had to live with the fruits we able to get friom the lms tree.

These are tags from "some" tool.

The Fact that a private tag starts with WM doesnt mean anything other

Its the same like the Itunes compilation tag.

Did you run a tool like musicmatch or something?

And did you tag them all by yourself with the same tagging tool?

eg. I have some istore tracks for my kid - with some stupid tags that

The only solution was:
read all the tags into a textfile
deleteing the whole metadata thats not audio
add the wanted tags from the textfile

Get rid of the albumartistsort and artistsort tags.
btw:

only a single one track needs a wrong sort tag and your whole library
uses it.
That "bad" sort tag can be everywhere eg. in a sampler /compilation

Tracks in these sub and subsubfolders might be the Samplers i want to
see as a Sampler/Compilation.
ok some Soundtracks are a -one Artist only- thing - but other than there
no samplers are allowed / Every other track outside that Strukture is
not a Sampler.

a Simple statement looks like:
(Remember my Folders have these brackets - you may need another )

Code:

SELECT tracks.url FROM tracks INNER JOIN albums ON albums.id = tracks.album
WHERE albums.compilation = '1' and tracks.url NOT like '%[%';

Gives a list with the path/filenames LMS thinks its a Sampler but its
outside of my sampler strukture.
If there is any match you do not want to see there - you can tag them on
your likings. eg. add Albumartist delete tcmp tag whatever you like to
use.

On my side there is a 0 rows returned answer from sqlite3. Its pretty
simple.

All these Tracks in these sub and subsubfolders are the Samplers i want

Every other track outside that Strukture is not a Sampler.

a Simple (even with my logic issues) statement looks like:

Code:

SELECT tracks.url FROM tracks INNER JOIN albums ON albums.id = tracks.id
WHERE albums.compilation = 1 AND tracks.url not like '%%Sampler%%' or
tracks.url not like '%%Soundtracks%%';

Gives a list with the path/filenames LMS thinks its a Sampler.

Someone has a Problem with the behaviour how LMS handles compilations

We must remember LMS was ahead of the time, but now its only supported
by a single guy.
LMS (and its predecessors) was always techie - you need to know how
things work - if you want to use it and adapt something here and there.
If someone thinks he should use another Software cause that fits better
to his enviroment or needings there is nothing else as wave goodbye and
wish him the very best with his decision.

One User didnt use the database and only want to search in musicfolders,
another thinks this or that - there are many different use cases.

If you want to compare a "player" like Winamp with lms you need to
compare Itunes or something else not winamp.

> Server inventing tag fields like "trackartist" that don't exist in tags
> is another.
Well thats not the case
A single Track has a Artist Tag thats used by lms!

If you want to see all tracks from an artist - you need to put all
tracks from all artists together - winamp cant do that!
If one Album has more than one Artist - you need to make a decision. Is
it a Compilation or not.

eg. Crossroads from Eric Clapton is a Best of from Eric Clapton with all
of his Hits with all of his former Bands.
If you want to see that as an compilation - you dont need anything
further.
If you dont want it as a compilation you can use

- eg Albumartist "Eric Clapton" on all (not one) Track where the
"Track" Artist is not Eric Clapton
- Eric Clapton;Derek and The Dominos as "Track" Artist

Feel free to use any Software you want and listen to music you like use
our Tricks or not its up to you.

If you would understand the decisions (not logical fallacy) that are
needed to provide all the hidden stuff in a database that make using &
quering fast you would see the "we must die way one or another" thats
needed to do so.

A wise Guy told me a long time ago -Computers help us to sort out things
we never would have without Computers.-
Another "wise" Guy (the same who was blamed for something he never said
about "640K should be enough for everybody) Its not a bug its a

Never ever use artistsort or albumartistsort unless you really want it
and know whats happen after that.
Never use the TextFrame TCMP (no matter what value) unless you want to
sort that as Compilation.

Hi
both versions are bad. not my favour.

ID3v2.3 supports UTF-8 and UTF-16.
The Files in my library uses always the same 2.3 UTF-8 Tags.

Do you really want to do that?

mp3tag didnt support that in one simple step.

you need to convert the tag to filename and then convert filename to tag
and then convert tag to filename again.

i would not do this to a big bunch of files cause there is always
something you would not want and you didnt see at the first time...

Hi,

i am using eyeD3 for my things and its exactly my piece of Honey.

Since i have a script that changes genres from x to y (but changes the
timestamp just a little to support the rescan feature from lms) i think
its no big deal. (scriptwise)
*BUT* you have a new "genre" called "No Genre" - do you really want to
do that?

If [ $answer= yes ]
'eyeD3 Download' (http://eyed3.nicfit.net/) and check this line

Code:

find ./ -iname *.mp3 -exec  echo eyeD3 --preserve-file-times --genre "" {}
\;

remember i am not in charge for your troubles ;-)
If you have a backup - feel free to remove the echo in front of -eyeD3
--preserve-file-times --genre ""-

eg. some tools use genres like *Synth-Pop* but that Genre is called
*Synthpop* even in the official id3v1/2 Genre list.

Long time ago i did wrote some shell(linux) script to get all these
"errors" sorted. Now i only have 261 Genres instead of +500 (same

Hi i didnt wrote "is no good" i mean " is no good for me" (using linux
and masstagging didnt work for me with most of the gui taggers - even
puddletag sometimes skip tracks when mass tagging them)

Best (imho) Practice is = always use one Tagger for the whole library
caus all of them do some minor things.

You are using windooze?
http://help.mp3tag.de/main_scripting.html

Imho (based on experience since 1997 when i started with mp3) its better
to "script" something that runs one file after another than load them
(thats my definition of mass tagging) once into some gui and run
things.

And be prepared to only write one tag (id3v2.x) not both but read v1 as
well (if you want to see the file)
Again look@ the Samplers first!
And only one file is needed to re-sort all from the Artist/Band

genres are always a mess - unless you define your own and not using any
db from the worldwidewet.
I hardly find a soundtrack/score where not all tracks are "music"
(spoken Text from the Actors) but tagged as Soundtrack and not
Spoke/speech.
And even the other mess with "Synth-pop and or "Synthpop" - but thats an

yapp since lms is case sensitive as well you will get run in trouble...

I discovered a bug on my fav. tagging tool that adds trailing blanks to
some genres and most of the players cant even detect these trailing
blanks (vlc shows them)

But thats no big deal - sorry your using winblows and flacs two things i
didnt use but there atre many tools that exports tags to a (text)file
and can import tags from (text)files. Some of these tools and a simple
change "; " against ";" is your friend.

If you have only flacs and change the setting to never write IDvx.y and

But do you using a Shoe to get a Nail in your Wall or do you use a

Re: [SlimDevices: Ripping] Classical music tagging in LMS 7.9 -- looking for hints, suggestions, and guidance

2015-12-04 Thread DJanGo

Hi,

1st search for an real flac tagger that runs on your OS.
Dont use mp3tag for flacs - even if it looks like it should do the job.

since lms drops leading zeros and everything like x/y in the db - dont
waste your time or mess your files.

To be honest - i would never ever again do masstagging with mp3tag again
- some of my "buggy tags" are made by Mp3tag sometimes Genre is gone
sometimes the releasedate

Seems that your dns doesnt know where to find "server"

Google after some vbs scripts how to search and replace text in
textfiles or clean your files manually.

Notepad even can replace all server against m (each file at once)

A copy protected disk thats played on a redbook cd player should be the
-normal- case.
Take a look at the cover / sleeve sometimes the add a line copy
protection.

seem easy...

m:\ lokks like a winblows OS - so \ is for changing folders/dirs - on
*ux systems its / and \ is for masking some specialchars. 1 2 must be
used as 1/ 2.

Take a look whats going on in the script and change that.

Hi,
above you've wrote also something about .exe so its clear (even *ux and
macos doesnt have the driveletterthing) that you are under *blows :)

You must check carefully the sourcecode maybe its written for all kind
of os or not.

eg:

Most Os can handle something like
artistprename artistsurname

On *.blows it the only working solution for specialchars like a
blank.

*ux (macos and linux) can also handle *artistprename/ artistsurname*

where is the pl. you want help ?

 Thanks for your input !
i always would mass tag the files direct from and on the source - not
mounted via smb or something like that - i've had a big issue and after
that much fun to find and restore the tags or files cause i didnt
noticed that network failure. (and my Job is Networker).
Mass Tagging always means backup before and check later before you
delete the backup fioles/ owerwrite them.

Yupp and the reason why is quite simple:
Full 5/14 CD Devices (R/R-W) are powered with 12 AND 5 Volt -
notebook/laptop slimsize only with 5 Volts.
If you want to rip - go the old fullsize way.

Re: [SlimDevices: Ripping] Tagging Odd Singles question

2013-11-02 Thread DJanGo

Why did you want it that way?

I would use another technik.

Name all odd singles folders special like s-nameofsingle and use some
smal oneline script to find all folders with that kind of name and make
a playlist of of them.

you can also use playlists everywhere where you use Albums. So thats
quite easier and with less trouble.
Hardlinks are for hardcoreguys.

Re: [SlimDevices: Ripping] Tagging Odd Singles question

2013-11-01 Thread DJanGo

Hi,

since i was grown up in the 70' 80' i have a very huge bunch of 12''
Vinyls.
And i always tag them as they should be.

Cause the uk Version of some (most of) singles are different than some
italian or german pressing.
Sometimes just extended remixes or a completlty different tracksetup.

And CDs from Japan (where i good friend works and do me some presents)
are also other than german/uk ones.

So in my opinion it doesnt make sense to get them together as they are
different.

But what has this todo with Hardlinks?

of their songs, i only use Prince or Billy Joel for albumartist values.

Hi,

but if you do it that way, you got a big list of Artists and if you want
to hear a other Version of some song with another guest artist you have
a lot to do.
I do it that way:
Sampler
 Album/Album track artist Title

Normal Album
 Artist/Album/Artist Album track Title

And Albums with guest stars
Artist/Album/Artist Album track Title (feat) guest

But there is no way to go - the big thing is that the owner of the Musik
is happy and find his stuff.
