Re: [RDD] importing song data into Natural Music SOLVED

I can now successfully bulk import song data into Natural Music from
Rivendell (Cart Data Dump csv) thanks to the Jamie Dominey technique
below.  It seems to work 100%.

Thanks Jamie!

Been using Rivendell and Natural Log for quite a few years, now we

I'm trying to work out how to import music data into NM5, to reduce
manual data entry.

RDLibrary gives me the option to generate 4 kinds of report. Cart
Report, Cut Report, Cart Data Dump, Cart Data Dump (csv). Which one
should I use?

I have tried using Cart Data Dump with the NM5 filter Text File
Pipe-Delimited.  It works for the first song on the list, but when I
press "next song" I get the error message /End of file has been
reached./

So how do you Natural Music experts do it?

Stan mentioned that it might work via Windows using rdlogmanager.exe,

As you can see above, the headings are present but no other data.

I would welcome any suggestions.

I sent this email some time ago. I wonder if I am missing some
protocol or some language details, since it seems the message has
not been noticed at all. However, the crash on of RdAirPlay is a
real problem for us. Any help will be very appreciated.
With gratitude,
Meramar
I think I addressed this issue long ago. We have been coping with
this problem for almost a year. At least we know when RdAirPlay
crashes, in our case.

We have 4 workstations linked to a dedicated server for audio
files and the mysql database. We installed Rivendell using the DVD
Appliance. Our Rivendell's version is up to date.

When does RdAirplay crashes in our system?

When a producer is doing Voice Tracking and a Auto-refresh is
executed and, for a fraction of time (seconds or fraction of a
second) the cart that RdAirplay is playing struggles or stops.

How did we reproduced the crash?
1. We set our system to auto refresh.
2. We load Rdairplay, making sure that no cart will be playing.
3. A voice tracker saves his/her track
4. RdAirplay crashes!

If RdAirplay is playing a cart or has played a cart of the log and
for some reason, at the moment of the Refresh, there is not cart
playing, RdAirplay DOES NOT crash.

So we suspect that we get this crashes, as I explained, during a
refresh, after a voice track has been saved and only if RdAirplay
strugles, reloads and for a fraction of time no cart is playing.
Sorry that I can't use technical jargon to explain the problem.
Maybe one of the developers can take a look a this situation. Most
of the time our system works fine. However, it would be great if
the problem could be fixed.

With gratitude,

Marcos

It's hard to imagine a hardware error that will cause
rdairplay to exit
but not manifest itself in other ways. I'm used to hardware
problems
manifesting themselves at lower levels, e.g. screen
freezes.

Also, I've taken the hard drove out of a suspect machine,
mounted it in an
entirely different machine, and booted from it. The problem
persists. That
would suggest it isn't a hardware issue.

In my case I have a Broadcast Tools ACS 8.2 switcher with GPIO
capability that Rivendell fully supports.

I will assume you have some sort of GPIO capability:

You then wire the switch up to a GPIO input, and configure the trigger
in rdadmin to play a macro. It is quite buried:
Manage Hosts > [Host] > RDAirplay > Switchers GPIO > Switchers >
[Swithcher/GPIO] > Configure GPIs.

You then tell the GPI to run on macro on either "ON" or "OFF" (could
depend on how the switch is wired)

The Macro then just needs to have this command in it:

PL 1!

(for Play Log 1)

If you also want to switch from "live Assist" to "Auto" mode, you will
also need to add that command:

PM 2 1!

I often fancy the macro up by adding something like:

LC BLUE Remote Started Playlist!
SP 1000
LC BLUE !

Still having issues with this version. Possibly my previous posts were
not clear because I was on air at the time.

The OS is Centos 6.5 and the issues are as follows:

Audio won't play in Edit Log. This only happens on tracks where the cut
end marker has been moved closer to the end of audio (which is mosly
songs in my case). It wasn't an issue on the previous version.

And in RDAirplay the Audition buttons are working back to front.

Is this a bug, or is the usually seamless Centos update process now a

Re: [RDD] segfault issue

2013-02-08 Thread Warren Mead
Thanks Geoff and Fred for the reply - I very much appreciate it.
I will test the RAM and start tinkering with the newer versions.
Fortunately it's no biggie to do a system re-start during the news
every few months.

Many thanks

[RDD] segfault issue

2013-02-07 Thread Warren Mead
This morning RDAirplay disappeared and the audio stopped.
I had a similar issue a while back, where RDAirplay runs perfectly for
about 100 days and then crashes and shows a segfault on the system log.
A reboot seems to fix it for a few months.
Does anyone have any ideas? Is 100 days a reasonable amount of uptime
for s system like this?
It's Rivendell 1.7.1 on Ubuntu 10.04 networked to 2 other computers.

[RDD] slight crash

2012-10-22 Thread Warren Mead

Need some help troubleshooting an RDAirplay crash this morning.
The system is Ubuntu 10.04 with Rivendell 1.7.1 networked to a couple of
workstations. It has been running non stop for 180 days. In that time
there have been no audio glitches, no issues with logs at midnight and
no crashes until now. It happened about 8.23 am I think.
The log is pasted below.

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks

[RDD] segmentation fault

2012-04-18 Thread Warren Mead
I did a bad thing. During a database restore on the backup computer,
I've ended up with a segmentation fault when I try to start rdadmin.
I've completed a few database restore's before using the Rivendell
Migrating Systems instructions on the Wiki, and they have all ended
well. This time I may have become over confident and deviated from the
written word :-[

The system is RRAbuntu.

Is there anyway to save this system without a re-install?

Thanks

[RDD] simple backup

2012-03-25 Thread Warren Mead
Hi All,

Had RRaBuntu on air for around 5 weeks now - all working well.

Now I'm building another Rivendell computer as a (server) backup.

Hot Standby would be good, but looks quite difficult.

Is there a simple (Ubuntu) tool to manually backup the audio and sql to another
machine.

Thanks

[RDD] Event title separation

2012-03-07 Thread Warren Mead
Thanks for the replies.

Morten - when you say the figure is the number of carts - does that refer to
the number of carts played in that particular Event, or the overall number of
carts generated such as songs id's etc?

Another quick question, -does the system take into account if songs are
actually played?

[RDD] Event title separation

2012-03-06 Thread Warren Mead
Hi all,

Need some clarification please.

Does the "title separation" number (in the Event dialog) refer to minutes or
songs?

In the Rivendell Wiki the Brett Blog says minutes, and the Managing Scheduler
Rules article talks about songs.

[RDD] Trans question

2012-02-07 Thread Warren Mead
Hi,

I have a problem with occasional carts showing up in the generated log as Play
instead of Seque. They are shown in the Event Editor as Seque, and RDAirPlay
has been configured with Segue as the default trans.

What am I missing?

Thanks to Cowboy who replied to my problem.

Ended up getting alamixer back by making the following changes to
alsa-base.conf in Ubuntu 10.04.

options snd-ice1712 index=1

#options snd-hda-intel index=0

options snd-hda-intel model=generic

[RDD] alsamixer awol

2012-01-28 Thread Warren Mead
Hi all,

Using Rivendell on Ubuntu 10.04.
Had a problem with the soundcards swapping numbers after rebooting, so I edited
alsa-base.conf which fixed the issue. But now alsa mixer won't open and gives
an "invalid argument". I tried removing the changes to alsa-base.conf, but it
still won't launch (even after saving and a reboot).

All is fine with sound on both cards, but I need to increase the level slightly
to match the mixer.

Any ideas?

[RDD] Natural Log question solved

2011-10-19 Thread Warren Mead
Thanks to Tim Camp for the help on this one.

I was having problems with some RD clocks not importing traffic. It was fixed
by slackening up the start times in the Event used for traffic.

[RDD] Natural Log traffic question

2011-10-18 Thread Warren Mead
Recently purchased Natural Log traffic for a RD system I am working on.

After a small amount of effort (and Wiki reading) I was able to internally
generate music on RD and then merge the traffic log that Natural Log had
created. It worked perfectly.

The problem is, it only works with one RD clock. When I created another clock
with different hourly spot start times, the spots were missing from that hour.

I tried editing the Natural Log template break start times to match the new
clock - still no spots.

The Natural Log text file looks normal, so I'm thinking it's something I've
overlooked in Rivendell.

Any suggestions would be very much appeciated!

Thanks

Warren

[RDD] Log Marker part 2

2011-10-05 Thread Warren Mead
What I'm trying to do is provide text reminders (on the log) for the on air
staff such as "un-divert the telephone" without manually adding it to the log
via rdlogedit each time.

Since posting, I now know about creating macro carts with text messages. So the
question is - can I specify a macro cart number in the hourly clock template?

Thanks

[RDD] Log Marker

2011-10-05 Thread Warren Mead

I know how to manually add a text marker message in rdlogedit.
But need some help displaying text marker messages automatically everytime I
generate a log. Which part of the ROG would cover this?

Thanks
