Yikes! I now see what you mean. /lib64/libhpi.so.10 is a dynamically loaded
library on which caed and ripcd depend. Thank you for correcting me!

I'll refrain from such "shortcut" suggestions in the future!

Sounds like as good a work-around as any. Unfortunately, the ‘alsa-firmware’
package includes firmware for an incompatible version of the AudioScience
driver that ships as part of ALSA, thus the two packages conflict.

The other approach would be to build Rivendell from source with the
AudioScience support disabled. Unfortunately, neither approach is ideal.

Cheers!

You do *not* want to do this! In addition to being just a Really Bad Idea in
general, it will break Rivendell. This is because the ‘hpklinux’ package
provides user-space library components in addition to the kernel driver;
removing those will mean that caed(8) will have unsatisfied link dependencies
and hence be unable to run. This true whether there is an ASI card actually
installed or not.

The package dependency system is there for a reason. You should never bypass it
on a production system. Even in an ‘experimental’ setup, you have to very
careful. It’s easy to remove something essential inadvertently and wind up with
a completely non-functional system! It can be near-impossible to recover from
such a situation short of completely reinstalling the OS.

Cheers!

2019-12-10 Thread Rob Landry

I ended up downloading the alsa-firmware package from alsa-project.org,
installing 'Development Tools', and using confgure/make/make install,
bypassing yum. That seems to work. I suspect it probably breaks hpklinux,
but if I ever need that I'll reinstall it.

Now, I don't need hpklinux because this machine doesn't have an

Does anyone know of an easier fix than recompiling Rivendell from source?

I had this happen to me after a power failure and subsequent reboot. For some
reason had to go into alsa mixer and turn the channels back upMine was a

Rob,

2 things with M-Audio cards.

If the M-Audio is an M-Audio Delta 1010 with the external breakout box, pull
the breakout box apart. There is a 470uF 63V capacitor (or there might be 2 of
them in there, I can't recall) which goes bad. When you take the top of the
unit off the breakout box, the capacitor(s) are in the upper left corner, just
to the right of where the power cable plugs in. Replace the capacitor(s) and
chances are you'll be good to go.

The second thing with M-Audio cards, I've had situations where the Delta's have
occasionally ended up with channels muted or turned down.
I also had one card which had a bug where it would appear that it was turned
up, but didn't un-mute until running the audio for the channels in question all
the way down then back up and toggling the mute option.
The graphical Envy24 has been a good friend to fixing this a number of times.

Just some ideas.
