Let the invasion begin (nothing like a new war to make us forget about the failure of the old war) North Korea Using Plutonium for Bomb Production Thursday, October 02, 2003 SEOUL, South Korea - North Korea (search) claimed Thursday they have reprocessed 8,000 spent nuclear fuel rods (search) and are using the plutonium extracted during the process to make atomic bombs. Citing a hostile policy by the United States toward the communist country, North Korea has made a switchover in the use of plutonium churned out by reprocessing spent fuel rods in the direction increasing its nuclear deterrent force, a spokesman for North Korea's Foreign Ministry said in a statement carried by the country's official news agency, KCNA. The (North) successfully finished the reprocessing of some 8,000 spent fuel rods, and also said they will reprocess more spent fuel rods to be produced from the small reactor in its main nuclear complex in Yongbyon, north of Pyongyang. Earlier this week, North Korea claimed that it was taking practical measures to boost its nuclear weapons program as a deterrent against what it calls a U.S. plan to invade. The claim came as some U.S. intelligence analysts are becoming increasingly concerned that the communist regime may have three, four or even six nuclear weapons instead of the one or two the CIA had estimated. New atomic bombs would give Pyongyang more authority at the negotiating table, and may allow it to part with one, either in a test or by selling it, experts say. The United States and its allies are trying to persuade North Korea to give up its nuclear programs. The North says it will do so only if the United States signs a nonaggression treaty, provides economic aid and opens diplomatic ties. The nuclear dispute flared in October 2002 when U.S. officials said North Korea admitted running a secret nuclear weapons program in violation of international agreements. __ RollTideFan - The University of Alabama Athletics Discussion List Welcome to RollTideFan! Thanks Krut. Steve - as for that link. . .God help us. I saw that link on an MSU list a day or so ago. Our consensus was the author needs to put the crack pipe down (and the school president should hide his young coeds). 0-12 is almost certain. Inexplicably, MSU is favored this weekend against Vandy. If MSU plays to form the Commodores should finally break their conference losing streak. :( From: kurt rasmussen [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: 2003/10/01 Wed PM 07:21:10 EDT Steven Johnson wrote: What is your feeling on this? http://www.bulldogsforbowden.com/ Iyam feeling pain for my pla Ron Rice. [RollTideFan] From College Football News.....
Game of the Week Tennessee (4-0) at Auburn (2-2) - 7:45 pm EST ESPN Why to watch: O.K. Auburn. People are starting to respect you again. The Tigers have won their last two games by a total of 103 to 10, but those were against Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky. Are the Tigers good enough to get back into the national consiousness? This will be the big test going against an undefeated Tennessee team that few believe is the real deal after struggling to beat Florida and South Carolina. Even so, the Vols have good wins to their credit, the Tigers don't. Why Tennessee might win: Auburn's offense still hasn't shown it can move the ball on a real defense. Tennessee has a real defense, and then some. It hasn't been a total brick wall, but it kept high-powered offenses like Fresno State's, Marshall's and to a lesser extent, Florida's under wraps. Why Auburn might win: Tennessee's passing game continues to be an issue. It's not bad, but it's only averaging 194 yards per game. Auburn's problems are on offense, not defense with a pass defense ranking 11th in the nation. The D has been tremendous giving up 13 points since the USC debacle. If Tennessee is trying to run the ball, it'll have problems as well. Who to watch: In a game with so much talent, how boring is it to talk about the punters? In nasty SEC battles like this one should be, field position could mean everything. Tennessee's Dustin Colquitt was out of this world against South Carolina, and is currently second in the nation averaging 49.19 yards per boot. Auburn's Kody Bliss isn't having the same sort of luck averaging under 38 yards per kick. What will happen: Auburn's defense will control a close, low scoring game. The Tiger running game will finally live up to its billing. CFN Prediction: Auburn 20 ... Tennessee 17 Alabama (2-3) at Georgia (3-1) - 12:30 pm EST GamePlan Why to watch: Alabama is reeling after losing three of its last four games with the one win coming in a battle against Kentucky. Georgia is back after a battle against LSU. A win for the Tide would do wonders for Mike Shula and the early part of his regime. He's not in hot water, but there are a few grumblings. Why Alabama might win: The Tide isn't expected to win this game. Oh sure, Bama fans want to win every game and the Tide is good enough to give the Dawgs a run, but Georgia is the much better team. Without the normal pressure of a game like this, the Tide might be able to open it up a little more and try some more things on offense. It'll be time to get creative. Why Georgia might win: Georgia was very good before, and now all the parts are back. Well, hopefully. Running back Tony Milton and receiver Fred Gibson should be back to give the offense even more firepower. It's not like David Greene and the offense was dying with these guys out. Who to watch: Just how hurt is Alabama quarterback Brodie Croyle? He got his non-throwing shoulder banged up against Arkansas, and missed practice time this week. All indications point to him playing, but it'll be interesting to see how long he can hold up if he takes a few shots. What will happen: With all the cogs back, Georgia should finally get rolling. Alabama has too many issues to win a tough road game like this. CFN Prediction: Georgia 31 ... Alabama 17 Ole Miss (2-2) at Florida (3-2) - 12:30 pm EST GamePlan Why to watch: Florida is looking for a little bit of payback after the Ole Miss defense stymied Rex Grossman and the Gators last year. The Rebels are still a bit shell-shocked after getting bombed on by B.J. Symons and Texas Tech last week. The Gators have gone through a rough patch against D-I teams lately, but they're still in the SEC hunt. Ole Miss is 1-0 in SEC play, and could use all the conference wins it can get with the big boys coming up. Why Ole Miss might win: The Gator offense hasn't been doing much of anything over the last two weeks struggling to score points against Kentucky and Tennessee. After seeing Texas Tech and its high-powered attack last week, the Gator offense is going to appear tame. Why Florida might win: Chris Leak isn't going to light up the Ole Miss secondary like Texas Tech did, but the Rebels were having issues before Symons and the boys lit it up. Florida's offense should be able to get the ball moving, especially at home. Who to watch: The Gator coaching staff is trusting Leak more and more with the offense. He's not bombing away deep like Gator fans are used to seeing from their quarterbacks, but he's hitting most of his short to medium range throws. He doesn't need to have a lights-out game for Florida to win. Eli Manning does. What will happen: Florida will struggle a bit for two quarters, and then the Gators will roll. CFN Prediction: Florida 42 ... Ole Miss 23 Vanderbilt (1-4) at Mississippi State (0-4) - 2:30 pm EST Why to watch: The battle of the two division basement dwellers might not make much noise in the SEC world, but this is a huge deal to these two teams desperately needing a win.
