Re: [RollTideFan] For The First Time In My Life

Since my Trans Am only gets 10 MPG (as long as I can keep my foot out of it)
and it only takes premium.I think that I will not be driving it more
than once a week just to keep it loose. If I get game tickets this year, I
might drive it to Tuscaloosa if I have a few friends to help with the gas.
It cost me $75 the last time I took it.

Will it ever end?

AMAZINGLY SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES1. If you are choking on an ice
cube, don't panic.Simply pour a cup of boiling water down your throat and
presto. The blockage will be almost instantly removed.2. Clumsy? Avoid
cutting yourself while slicingvegetables by getting someone else to hold
them while you chop away.3. Avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting
the toilet seat by simply using the sink.4. For high blood pressure
sufferers: simply cutyourself and bleed for a few minutes, thus reducing the
pressure in your veins. Remember to use a timer.5. A mouse trap, placed
on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from rolling over and going back to
sleep after you hit the snooze button.6. If you have a bad cough, take a
large dose of laxatives, then you will be afraid to cough.7. Have a bad
toothache? Smash your thumb with a hammer and you will forget about the
toothache.Sometimes, we just need to remember what the rules of life
really are:You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the
WD-40.If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct
tape.Remember:Everyone seems normal until you get to know
them.Never pass up an opportunity to go to the bathroom. If you
woke up breathing, congratulations! You get another chance. And finally,
be really nice to your family and friends; you never know when you might need
them to empty your
bedpan.

I know that I am not going to be popular for saying thishell, I aint

made him a better player. He did a lot with a little when he was at

All that being said, I am behind Coach Shula 110% and will not start calling

Internet bullets can't stop CroyleBy BRYAN
  APPAlligator Staff
  Writer

  Photo
Courtesy of Alabama Sports Information After an ACL tear and false
internet rumors of his kidnapping in Argentina, Alabama quarterback Brodie
Croyle attempts to overcome past woes and lead the Tide to prominence.

HOOVER, Ala. - Smashed shoulder, crushed knee, kidnapped and shot, Alabama
quarterback Brodie Croyle has never felt better.
That's because Croyle will return as the Crimson Tide quarterback despite
rumors of his kidnapping in July in Argentina.
Now, disciples of Bear Bryant can rest easy.
Before Croyle could become the next Natalee Holloway, the senior dispelled
the myths at Southeastern Conference Media Days on Friday.
Internet rumors began to swirl shortly after Croyle embarked on a four-day
dove hunting excursion with his father and friends in rural Argentina.
With no cell phone service, Croyle's crew could check in with relatives
back home only at night. But when the quarterback called home one night, his
mother notified him of his terrible fate.
"My mother said that I was dead," Croyle said. "Another one of my buddies
called his mom, and she heard that I'd been shot. And then another one called,
she heard we had been kidnapped. I don't know how or where it all got
  started."
Being the center of gossip is commonplace for a starting quarterback at
such a tradition-rich program. It's a burden Croyle said he can handle until
  his family becomes involved.
"[My mom] had to sit there for six hours and not know whether we were dead
or alive. That was one of the cases of when it went too far," Croyle said. "I
guess it's good people don't want to forget about football even though it's
the summer and spring. But at some point, enough is enough."
But with a promising season on the horizon and Croyle healthy for the first
time in nearly two years, it's understandable why Alabama diehards are a
  little on edge.
As a sophomore, Croyle impressed then-rookie head coach Mike Shula, playing
through shoulder injuries to gain 2,303 yards - the second most in school
history - and tying a school-record 16 touchdowns set by Shula in 1985.
"[He] never said a word about it, never," said Shula, who's entering his
third season with the Crimson Tide. "Nobody is tougher than Brodie as far as
  injuries go."
During his junior year, however, Croyle's threshold for pain couldn't
conquer a season-ending ACL tear in his right knee, suffered a mere three
  games into the season.
After a successful surgery in September, Croyle has made the long road to
recovery while answering an estimated 50 to 75 questions per day regarding his
  health.
And sometimes the answers varied, depending on who was asking.
"I'd mess with them every once and awhile," Croyle said. "I'd tell them
that I'm done playing, that they actually didn't fix my ACL."
Now, Croyle might actually be able to provide the answers Alabama fans want
  to hear.
"He's pretty much out of the rehab mode," Shula said. "He's into increasing
his strength and conditioning and really looks as good as he ever looked since
he's been here. We have got to monitor him, [but] he's at full go right from
  day one of practice."
This season, Croyle plans to stay that way.
When asked what he's learned from his ordeal, Croyle responded,
"Slide."
"I wasn't raised that way," said Croyle, whose father was a defensive end
for Bryant at Alabama. "My dad always told me, ?You get every yard you can get
when you can get it. And if you can't get off the field, you're season is done
one way or the other.' I got the OK from Big John to slide. I'm good to go
  now."

  Recruiting Update
  Tide adds late linebacker signee
  July 29, 2005

--

Proving that Mike Shula never stops
recruiting, for the third year in
a row the Crimson Tide has signed a prospect just
before the start of fall
drills. Two summers ago it was defensive end
Wallace Gilberry. Last summer
it was defensive back Jeffrey Dukes. This week
it's linebacker Eryk
 Anders.
The past two seasons the 6-3, 223-pound
Anders was a defensive end at
Smithson Valley HS, which is located in a suburb
of San Antonio, TX. As a
senior, Anders racked up 115 tackles, 42 tackles
for losses and 11 sacks.

Alabama is getting a real jewel of a
football player, especially
considering it's so late, says Smithson Valley
head coach Larry Hill. He
was an All-State Class 5A player in the state of
Texas, which is pretty
good when you consider it's the largest
classification in a state with a
 lot of good football players.

During his career, Anders played in two state
championship games. In
last year's title game, he blocked a punt and
returned it for a touchdown.
For all of last season, Anders blocked five kicks,
two of which he
 returned for touchdowns.

He's got a hot motor, Hill says. He plays
wide open all the time.
Even though he's just over 220 pounds, he plays
very strong. And he's a
great athlete who can run a 4.55 40. He anchored
our mile relay team and
our sprint relay. The kid can really run.

Even though Anders played down at defensive
end in high school, it's
believed he'll play outside linebacker for
Alabama.

They [Alabama] really haven't said for sure
whether he'll play down
or at linebacker, but it will definitely be on the
outside, Hill says.
My guess is that he'll be an outside linebacker,
because that's where he
would've played for us had we not needed him at
end.

Similar to Gilberry's case two years ago,
Hill believes that many
 college scouts simply overlooked Anders.

I think because he was an undersized
defensive end a lot of coaches
missed him, Hill says. I think they looked at
him for the way he was,
rather than projecting him for what he could
become. He's 6-3, 220-plus
right now, and he's still growing. He wasn't this
big last season.

Hill says that Alabama, Texas Tech and Ole
Miss had been keeping tabs
 on Anders for several months.

Originally he planned to walk on at Ole
Miss, Hill says. They
wanted him, but they were out of scholarships.
They were going to give him
one as soon as it came open.

Alabama had offered him the same deal. But
then, from what I
gathered, Alabama had a scholarship come available
here late and they told
him they wanted him to go ahead and sign now.

Anders is expected to report with the Alabama
squad on Monday night,
 August 9th.

three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or
crushing death that day, or didn't they?

And I'm supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was desecrated when

I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start
caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a crime in

I'll care when Clinton-appointed judges stop ordering my government to

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine roughing up an

When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners who have
been humiliated in what amounts to a college hazing incident, rest
assured that I don't care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not
to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank
that I don't care.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat,
and fed special food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is
complaining that his holy book is being mishandled, you can absolutely
believe in your heart of hearts that I don't care.

And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled Koran and
other times Quran. Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and -- you guessed it -- I
don't care!

I've just received an invite to join this Bama discussion group and wanted
to introduce myself. Been a Bama fan for all 52 years of my life, seen the
glory days, stuck with them thru the tough times, and am more than ready to
beat tinnissee and awbern again.

I took just enough classes at the Capstone that the Alumni Association
considers me one of them, my son graduated from the University Law school
and my daughter plans on pursuing her master degree there. So, if you know
anything about the cost of higher education, I have a substantial money
interest there as well!

Roll Tide and I'm looking forward to meeting all of you as the season runs
on. Thanks for the invitation to join.

nation's highest court, a senior administration official said.

Bush offered the position to Roberts in a telephone call at 12:35 p.m.
after a luncheon with the visiting prime minister of Australia, John
Howard. He was to announce it later with a flourish in a nationally
broadcast speech to the nation.

Roberts has been on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of

Bush.

Advocacy groups on the right say that Roberts, a 50-year-old native of

strong conservative credentials he burnished in the administrations of
former Presidents Bush and Reagan. While he has been a federal judge for

experience he lacks on the bench is offset by his many years arguing
cases before the Supreme Court.

Liberal groups, however, say Roberts has taken positions in cases

Abortion rights groups allege that Roberts is hostile to women's

 Darby, Croyle set to go

Friday, July 15, 2005
STEVE KIRK
**News staff writer**

TUSCALOOSA - Doctors have cleared 1,000-yard rusher Kenneth Darby to fully
participate in Alabama's preseason football practices following offseason
surgery to repair a pelvic injury, improving the outlook for the Crimson
Tide's once-depleted offensive backfield.

It's up to me - I've got to keep them informed if it's too painful,
Darby said Thursday.

Alabama's entire starting backfield was sidelined with injuries by the end
of last season. But Darby and senior quarterback Brodie Croyle, who tore
an anterior cruciate ligament onSept. 18, are 100 percent medically
cleared. And junior fullback Tim Castille, who tore two knee ligaments
Oct. 23, is in the final stages of rehabilitation, according to head
athletic trainer Rodney Brown.

Darby, a junior tailback who led the Tide with 1,062 rushing yards in
2004, admitted he still gets sore occasionally following the March 3
surgery to repair what's called a sports hernia, in which muscle tears
away from the pelvic bone. He also said he hasn't tried his shaking
moves or had a chance to take part in any contact drills but feels good
and ready to try.

Crimson Tide players are scheduled to report Aug. 8 for summer practices,
although most of them, including freshman signees, are on campus attending
summer classes and working out. The status of the offensive backfield
going into the Sept. 3 season opener against Middle Tennessee has been an
important topic for UA's coaches and trainers.

Sophomore Aaron Johns was the only healthy scholarship tailback during
spring practices in February and March, but depth has arrived in the form
of highly touted freshman signees Roy Upchurch, Glen Coffee and Ali
Sharrief.

Darby said he's already begun to show them the ropes since they got to
Tuscaloosa.

Tailback Mike Ford of Sarasota, Fla., is among a handful of February
signees not expected at UA this fall for failing to meet academic
qualifying standards. Others could include receivers Nick Kyles and
Desmond Jennings (who was drafted to play baseball), defensive lineman
Antonio Forbes and defensive back Michael Ricks. Linebacker Prince Hall is
yet to arrive, too. Tide coach Mike Shula over-signed in February,
anticipating that several members of the class would go to prep school or
junior college.

At quarterback, Croyle said he has worked out full speed all summer
without wearing a knee brace. Doctors cleared Croyle before spring
practices, but Shula held him out of most spring activities except for
7-on-7 drills. Croyle weighs 211 pounds, which he said is 10 pounds
heavier than he's played at before. Tests show his repaired right knee is
now 3 percent stronger than his left knee.

Croyle and freshman quarterback John Parker Wilson have worked out with
Alabama's receivers three times a week since May, working on timing and
pass routes. Croyle said receivers Tyrone Prothro, Matt Caddell, Keith
Brown, DJ Hall and Ezekial Knight have not missed one throwing the entire
summer.

Freshman quarterbacks Jimmy Johns of Brookhaven, Miss., and Jimmy Barnes
of Los Alamitos, Calif., are on campus. Croyle said the muscular Johns has
been in Tuscaloosa for several weeks, looks more like a linebacker and
is really wanting to make a push on John Parker (for the No. 2
position), Croyle said. And I think (the competition) will be good for
all three of them, being close to the same age and having to prove
themselves every year. Those are three extremely talented young guys.

Less clear is the status of junior quarterback Marc Guillon. After
battling Wilson for playing time in spring practice, Guillon has not
participated in any of the summer throwing sessions and did not respond to
an interview request from UA's media relations department this week.

At fullback, Castille is close to medical clearance, having responded well
to planting and cutting. He has had a slower recovery than Croyle, because
Castille tore two ligaments - the ACL and the lateral collateral ligament.
That has led to a little more caution with (Castille's) side-to-side
stability, Croyle said, but it's looking like he's going to be ready,
too.

put a lot of time and apparently some amount of HIS OWN money into this
and
basically all he has gotten in return is bitching and moaning. Hell, I'd
be

more than a little pissed if I were in his shoes.

I don't personally understand all the differences between a service and a
server, but I think I get the basic idea. I think I like the idea of a
server better where we run our own service and make our ouw rules, but, to
be honest it doesn't make that much of a difference to me.

I don't know what the answer is, but I know that the guy that made this
forum possible deserves a big thank you and he just got one from me.

Now, maybe we could discuss this issue with some civility, but since this
is
RTF, I doubt that. That's OK, the tagline used to say wear a cup and
that

still applies. That's what we like about this place anyways.

I've read the whining about the server. I've spent an assload of money on
different servers only to be kicked off without notice or reason (without a
refund), have shitty server performance, have my bandwidth requirements
throttled without notice, etc...

The list needs to reside on a server that uses CPanel software for domain
and

file maintenance because that is the format that we've always used. This
includes MailMan mail list software. All of out files are compatible with
this
format only. The server also has to allow lists to be created which, believe
it
or not, not all do. Some ignorant serve admins are so stupid that they set
up
the software wrong and get hammered by e-mails once a list is used. They
think I

am a spammer and jack me with no conversation. If the software is set up
correctly there are none of those issues.

What I am saying it that I have always tried to use the best server
available
within our requirements and financial limitations. Some are better than
others.

Now, since the vast, vast majority of people on this list only lurk (you
suck!)
then i can't see any reason we can't allow pictures to be posted. We need
only
GIF JPEG/JPG images and NO MOVIES (of ANY kind) or WAV/sound files until
we

see how this will work on out bandwidth.

As for HTML, knock your socks off until we see how it uses bandwidth.

I've asked for this before with almost no response, but here goes: If you
want a

more reliable server then find it. Use the requirements listed above plus it
needs to be a UNIX server. Let us know what you find. Also, if you want to
see

the message board resurrected, please volunteer to be the admin.

Too bad I had cloud cover. I remember seeing something totally weird a few
years ago. It was about 9am and the wife and I were driving to a late

did. I have no freaking idea what it could have been.

the first thing I think is my eyes are out of focus, something. So I kept
looking and refocusing and the blue tail never faded. I went and got my

Harris Interactive's poll would fill void in 'human' element

By B.G. Brooks, Rocky Mountain News

ENGLEWOOD - Unless the pool of prospective new voters unexpectedly runs
dry, the Bowl Championship Series has settled on the alternative poll it
will use to help crown college football's 2005 national champ.

BCS coordinator Kevin Weiberg said Tuesday the Collegiate Commissioners
Association generally is comfortable with what is being done by Harris
Interactive - the polling organization commissioned last month to study
the feasibility of creating a new Top 25 to replace The Associated Press
poll in the contentious BCS formula.

The 11-member CCA, plus Notre Dame, is conducting its summer meetings
here

this week.

Weiberg said The Harris BCS Poll - not yet the official name - likely
will

include just over 100 voters selected from among former college players,
coaches, administrators and members of the media.

Harris sent out letters last week to prospective voters to gauge their
interest in participating, and once that recruitment process is complete
Weiberg said the BCS would officially announce the latest tweak to a
system that has drawn fire almost since its inception.

We just need a little more time to let Harris do its work, said
Weiberg,
commissioner of the Big 12 Conference. Right now we are on a course to
go

forward; there's enough of a consensus among our group. . . . This is the
path we're on.

In a release last week, the BCS said an announcement could be made in
mid-July. Weiberg said Tuesday it could be finalized soon, but added,
I'm not going to stand here today and say we're going to eliminate all
the controversy going forward.

In December, AP announced it was withdrawing its poll from the BCS
process. The reason: Many AP voters expressed discomfort at being news
makers in what almost annually has evolved into a controversial process.

AP's exit left the BCS ranking system with the USA Today/ESPN coaches'
poll as the only human element used in the process that determines
which

two teams compete for the BCS national championship.

Earlier this month, ESPN backed out of the coaches' poll, which also has
come under criticism because of the participants' decision to reveal
their

votes. However, some of that criticism was alleviated last month with the
American Football Coaches Association's announcement that coaches would
reveal their voting for the critical final BCS tabulation.

Likewise, Weiberg said only the final Harris poll would be revealed,
adding that voters could make their weekly voting public if desired.
Also,

there could be poll taken following the BCS championship game, as the AP
does now.

Weiberg and two fellow conference commissioners - the Mountain West's
Craig Thompson and Karl Benson of the Western Athletic Conference - cited
the Harris organization's longstanding polling credibility as positives
in

the altered BCS formula.

I like the objectivity involved. . . . For the most part, you're talking
about people who don't have a horse in the race, said Thompson, noting
that Harris has a stand-alone reputation in the polling business.

With the change, There might be reason to be a little apprehensive (but)
Harris has credibility, added Benson, who claimed he never doubted the
fairness of past BCS systems.

With the alternative poll, the BCS selection process will retain its two
human elements and six computers. Each human poll accounted for
one-third of a team's BCS ranking, with the machines offering the final
third.

Weiberg expects a similar weight once the Harris poll is part of the
formula. Before last season, the BCS

 What I Saw at Gitmo
 By Lt. Col. Gordon Cucullu
 FrontPageMagazine.com | June 27, 2005

Last week, I was privileged to be part of a
Department of Defense
trip to the Joint Task Force - Guantanamo Bay,
Cuba. I got to see
the operations of this controversial facility
up-close -
 something particularly important after Sen.
Richard Durbin's
comparison of its guard to Nazi stormtroopers and
calls of
leftists to shut the center down. Our group went
to GITMO to
check out tales that the military was being too
tough on these
terrorist detainees. We left convinced that
America is being
extraordinarily lenient - far too lenient.

After speaking with soldiers, sailors, and
civilians who
collectively staff Gitmo, I left convinced that
abuse definitely
exists at the detention facilities, and it
typically fails to
receive the press attention it deserves: it's the
relentless,
merciless attacks on American servicemen and
women by these
terrorist thugs. Many of the orange jumpsuit-clad
detainees fight
their captors at every opportunity, openly
bragging of their
desire to kill Americans. One has promised that,
if released, he
would find MPs in their homes through the
internet, break into
their houses at night, and cut the throats of
them and their
families like sheep. Others claim authority and
vindication to
kill women, children, and other innocents who
oppose their
jihadist mission authorized by the Koran (the
same one that hangs
in every cell from a specially-designed holder
intended to
protect it from a touching the cell floor - all
provided at U.S.
taxpayer expense). One detainee was heard to tell
another: One
day I will enjoy sucking American blood, although
their blood is
 bitter, undrinkable These recalcitrant
detainees are known
 euphemistically as being non-compliant. They
attack guards
whenever the soldiers enter their cells, trying
to reach up under
protective facemasks to gouge eyes and tear
mouths. They make
weapons and try to stab the guards or grab and
break limbs as the
 guards pass them food.

We dined with the soldiers, toured several of the
individual
 holding camps, observed interrogations, and
inspected cells. We
were impressed by the universally high quality of
the cadre and
the facilities. While it may not be exactly Club
GITMO, as Rush
Limbaugh uses to tweak the hard-Left critics who
haven't a clue
about reality here, GITMO is a far cry from the
harshness
experienced even by maximum security prisoners in
the U.S.

Meals for detainees are ample: we lunched on what
several thought
was an accumulated single day's ration for
detainees. No, the
contract food service manager said with a laugh,
what you're
looking at there is today's lunch. A single meal.
They get three
a day like that. The vegetables, pita bread, and
other well-
prepared food filled two of the large Styrofoam
take-home
containers we see in restaurants. Several
prisoners have special
meal orders like no tomatoes or no peanut
products depending
on taste or allergies. One prisoner, General
Hood said, throws
back his food tray if it contains things he has
specifically said
he doesn't want. How is he punished for this
outrageous
behavior? His tray is numbered, the food he
requested is put on
it, and the corrected order is delivered to his
cell.

The detainees are similarly catered to medically.
Almost every
one arrived at GITMO with some sort of
battlefield trauma. After
all, the majority were captured in combat. Today
they are
healthy, immunized, and well cared for. At a
visit to the modern
hospital facility - dedicated solely to the
detainees and
comparable to a well-equipped and staffed
small-town hospital
with operating, dental, routine facilities - the
doctor in charge
confirmed that the caloric count for the
detainees was so high
 that while most detainees arrived
undernourished, medics now
watch for issues stemming from high cholesterol
and being
overweight. Each of approximately 520 terrorists
currently held
 in confinement averages

The contract said Johnson would continue to get his paycheck until he
found comparable employment. Johnson stopped receiving checks from the
university later in December 2000, when he accepted the head coaching job
at his alma mater, The Citadel, a Division I-AA school. Johnson argued in
his lawsuit that The Citadel is not comparable employment to Alabama, one
of the most recognized names in college football.

Johnson's salary at Alabama was reportedly about $122,000 a year in 2000.

Is it U of A's fault that The CItadel doesn't have as recognizable as a
name

Is it Bama's fault if Johnson took a job paying him less than 122k per
This is exactly why there needs to be a loser pays court systemit'll
stop 99% of these frivilous lawsuitsJVW
