[saligaonet] Remembering those who taught us...

2004-09-30 Thread ANNETTE D'SOUZA
Hi SaligaoNetters,
Luwell recalled some teachers who taught in the school during his time there
- George Kutty & Mr. Lotlikar, & I remembered a tall slim teacher who used
to glide when she walked, Luwell remembered her name - Ms. Teofila.

From: Bradley n Clive <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
How about Sr Veronica, Sr Lavinia, Miss Margarette,
Miss Daureen,
Well these names are already on the list that Rico posted with his
introduction of the subject. So the late Ms. Margaret was one music teacher,
& there is a Ms. Margaret who used to ride the bicycle, also taught small
children & music.

Our weekend today. Gonna enjoy Bandra Fair being held here today &
tomorrow. Feni, sorpotal, etc. etc. the band "Tidal Wave" flown in from
Goa, gonna get some exercise this evening dancing

Ta ra

[saligaonet] Remembering those who taught us...

2004-09-30 Thread basil mascarenhas
Hi,
Lourdes Convent, LCHS,...roll back the years, almost everything's a blur
now.
I have vivid memories of at least two people in that blur.
Ms. Margaret taught us songs, some of which I can remember to this day. 'Out
in the Garden', 'The Grand Old Duke of York'.
Mr. Archibald Serrao, a rather forbidding figure, one of the very few male
teachers. He used to go 'Yo there' meaning some unfortunate student to stand
up & answer. He added a wonderful new word to my vocabulary, 'linear' which
I couldn't locate in the text, but had to guess at its meaning for weeks
afterwards.
Much more, but as I said, just a blur now.
Cheers,
Basil Macarenhas.

Hi There !

Yes, I am tuned in and as I read your email below my mind is already racing back to some good old memories.. Shall put down some few lines together

and email you. I think I may have a couple of pictures of my school days, ( will have to dig for the albums) will get them across as well. I agree the teachers who

taught us, have made us what we are today and they sure need to be given a word of praise and a great big pat on the back for all their efforts.

Names I think that could be included:-

Sr. Pushpa

Miss Aires ( lives somewhere next to Desire's house, along the road that goes to Salmona)

Miss Hazel Vaz ( understand that she is no lomger in Goa)

Sr. Philomena ( No offence, but the stout and strict one)

Will be in touch.

Cheers and Wish you all a great day.

Zelma De Souza
Abu Dhabi.

ALUMNI OF LOURDES CONVENT plan to say a thank you to all those teachers who
made us what we are. The function is planned for Saturday, November 20 (10 am
onwards) and we look forward to your involvement in the same.

Where-ever you are, please help with the following:
                  * Write an article remembering those who taught you,
or otherwise shaped the school to be what it is.
We will compile these articles into a small booklet,
photocopy the same, and share it with our old teachers.
A small way of paying back, in a tiny measure, all
the energy and efforts they invested in us.
                  Zelma, are you tuned in?

Dear All,

Some more teachers who come to my mind:

 Sr Francesca (FMCK).

 Sr Zita (FMCK).

 Mrs Shobal Naik (Grandmorod).

Goretti D'Souza (now Sr Goretti D'souza MSA).

 Mrs Teresinha Fernandes (Grandmorod).

Mr Shirodcar (Arpora )- taught us Hindi - a very patient teacher
who never got angry even when provoked.

I rememberd one day when the children in my class were bored with
the Hindi lesson. To break the monotony someone placed a piece
of cello-tape on his chair. Right enough it gave all of us a
break. As soon as he sat, it stuck to his pants and when he got
up to use the board there were peels of laughter.

Sir Shirodcar just turned and smiled and wanted to know what
made us laugh. No one immediately volunteered the sticky
information, as we wanted to extend the comic relief. After we
had had enough, one of us told him about the prank. He just
smiled took off the cello-tape and continued the lesson.

His smile disarmed all of us!

Mrs. Olinda Figueiredo (Sharon and Tania's mother).

Mrs Muriel D'mello (Demello Vaddo- from the other part of the
house where Caraline Lira stays).

Late Miss Veera (Fernandes? - lived in the lane that connects
Cherie & Raymond's house with Caroline Lira's house. She lived
with and looked after her aged mother till she died. I always
admired the fact that she herded her goats to the hill for
grazing.)

More as I remember...
Muriel.
