[Samba] new group memberships not receognized
Hi all! I have a peculiar problem. I am running samba 3.0.23a on a solaris 9 box. I am attempting to create a create a folder on a share and restrict access to a selected number of staff members. I created a new group named libssc with gid 2013. I then created the folder named SSC belonging to the group libssc and with permissions 770. When I attempt save a file to the folder I get the error message 'I:\SSC is not accessible. Access is denied.' Looking through the log file I notice the group 2013 is not being listed as one of my supplementary groups. Has anyone encountered this before? I have done this procedure several time in the past but I am encountering problems this time around. Here are some excerpts from the log file: params.c:pm_process() - Processing configuration file "/usr/local/samba3/lib/smb.conf" [2009/11/24 13:56:42, 3] param/loadparm.c:do_section(3687) Processing section "[globals]" [2009/11/24 13:56:42, 5] lib/debug.c:debug_dump_status(391) INFO: Current debug levels: all: True/5 tdb: False/0 printdrivers: False/0 lanman: False/0 smb: False/0 rpc_parse: False/0 rpc_srv: False/0 rpc_cli: False/0 passdb: False/0 sam: False/0 auth: False/0 winbind: False/0 vfs: False/0 idmap: False/0 quota: False/0 acls: False/0 locking: False/0 msdfs: False/0 dmapi: False/0 doing parameter syslog = 2 doing parameter log file = /usr/local/samba3/var/log.%m:%U:%I doing parameter max log size = 2000 doing parameter debug timestamp = yes doing parameter printing = SYSV doing parameter load printers = yes doing parameter lprm command = cancel %p-%j doing parameter use client driver = yes [2009/11/24 13:56:42, 2] param/loadparm.c:do_section(3704) [2009/11/24 13:56:42, 2] param/loadparm.c:do_section(3704) Processing section "[deptshr]" doing parameter comment = %g Shared Directory doing parameter path = /files1/user/%g/common doing parameter read only = no doing parameter create mask = 0770 doing parameter force create mode = 0770 doing parameter directory mask = 0770 doing parameter writable = yes doing parameter browseable = yes doing parameter invalid users = +circdesk [2009/11/24 13:56:43, 5] auth/auth_util.c:debug_nt_user_token(455) NT user token of user S-1-22-1-2223 contains 20 SIDs SID[ 0]: S-1-22-1-2223 SID[ 1]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-3043 SID[ 2]: S-1-1-0 SID[ 3]: S-1-5-2 SID[ 4]: S-1-5-11 SID[ 5]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-3001 SID[ 6]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-3003 SID[ 7]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-3011 SID[ 8]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-3013 SID[ 9]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-3017 SID[ 10]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-3025 SID[ 11]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-3037 SID[ 12]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-3041 SID[ 13]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-3045 SID[ 14]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-3047 SID[ 15]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-3051 SID[ 16]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-3053 SID[ 17]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-5011 SID[ 18]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-5021 SID[ 19]: S-1-5-21-2267612611-771306602-3073650580-3039 SE_PRIV 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0 [2009/11/24 13:56:43, 5] auth/auth_util.c:debug_unix_user_token(475) UNIX token of user 2223 Primary group is 1021 and contains 16 supplementary groups Group[ 0]: 1021 Group[ 1]: 1000 Group[ 2]: 1001 Group[ 3]: 1005 Group[ 4]: 1006 Group[ 5]: 1008 Group[ 6]: 1012 Group[ 7]: 1018 Group[ 8]: 1020 Group[ 9]: 1022 Group[ 10]: 1023 Group[ 11]: 1025 Group[ 12]: 1026 Group[ 13]: 2005 Group[ 14]: 2010 Group[ 15]: 1019 [2009/11/24 13:56:43, 5] smbd/uid.c:change_to_user(260) change_to_user uid=(0,2223) gid=(0,1021) [2009/11/24 13:56:43, 3] smbd/sec_ctx.c:set_sec_ctx(241) setting sec ctx (0, 0) - sec_ctx_stack_ndx = 0 [2009/11/24 13:56:43, 5] auth/auth_util.c:debug_nt_user_token(449) NT user token: (NULL) [2009/11/24 13:56:43, 5] auth/auth_util.c:debug_unix_user_token(475) UNIX token of user 0 Primary group is 0 and contains 0 supplementary groups [2009/11/24 13:56:43, 5] smbd/uid.c:change_to_root_user(275) Thanks in advance for any help. -- --- 0 ---- Daulton Theodore https://lists.samba.org/mailman/options/samba
[Samba] slow printing with XP SP3
I have Samba 3.0.23a installed on a server running Solaris 9. We had no problems printing with Service Pack 2 installed on the wrokstations. However since we started rolling out XP Service Pack 3 printing has become extremely slow. Printing reverts to normal if Service Pack 3 is uninstalled. Has anyone encountered such a problem? Any suggestions for a solution will be much appreciated. -- --- 0 Daulton Theodore https://lists.samba.org/mailman/options/samba

[Samba] root ownership of print jobs
Samba 3.0.23a Solaris 9 I have reecently upgraded my Samba server to the above version and joined an Active Directory domain. Since having achieved this I have been encountering a strange problem. On some of my printers the printing of banner pages is enabled. [Samba] Unable to join NT domain
I have been trying to have a Samba-2.2.8a server join our NT domain with no luck. I already have another 2.2.8a server in the domain. This one (the production server) resides on a Sunfire V280R with solaris 8. The intention is replace it with a Sunfire V240 running Solaris 9. I would like to have the test server (Solaris 9) join a domain so I could test that all (printing etc) will work before I do the cut-over. I have read lots of literature but have been unable to successfully join. I have had the machine account recreated several times but to no avail. The following is the output from my attempt to join with debug level set to three. I am hoping that someone out there would spot something that would help me get past this hurdle. [Samba] Samba 3 Unable to join domain
I am currently running Samba 2.2.8a in a production environment on a Unix box with Solaris 8. I am hoping to migrate and upgrade to Samba 3.0.10 on a Solaris 10 box. I am however having difficulties joining the NT domain with my new (still test server). Initially I provided the administrator with the ip address and the netbios name of the samba server so that a trust account could be created. After having no success joining I had the old account deleted and a new account created with the same ip address and the Unix hostname (different from the netbios name). Still no success. Here is the result of my join and oldjoin commands: # net rpc join MEMBER -S PDC_name Password: # net rpc oldjoin MEMBER -S PDC_name Failed to join domain Joining the domain was painless with the smbpasswd command for version 2.2.8. According to all that I.ve read (maybe not enough) it should also be easy with version 3x with the join/oldjoin command. The account exists but I still get prompted for a password when using the join command. I do not have the admin password and I think this should be do-able without providing the password. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions on how to get past this? [Samba] samba inconsistent printing behavior
Hello all. I've set up a Samba server on a Sun E280 box running Solaris 8. The server is part of a domain. I am having some problems printing. I can setup the printers on the Windows NT workstations using the Add Printer wizard. However, when I try to print I get inconsistent results. After installing the printer the workstation has to be restarted (sometimes more than once) before anything (test page or otherwise) prints. In some cases the print job sent to the printer goes into a black hole and sits in /tmp. In other instances the print job gets printed under the banner 'nobody'. The name on the banner page is not the username (eg. dtheodor in my case). Sometimes it prints perfectly. This is rather inconsistent and is currently the only obstacle to deploying the server into production. If anyone has any ideas as to how to stabilize printing they would be most welcomed and truly appreciated. BTW: One other thing. Sometimes when one navigates to the server in Windows Explorer and double clicks on it in the left pane. The descriptions (as per the the comment defintion in the conf file) for each share does displays 'nobody' wherever a variable (%u, %g) should have been translated. Again this is not consistentany ideas? Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions! Re: [Samba] Printing problem
Well, all users are printing now. Thanks Joel for pointing out that a home directory 'files1/test' was being added for each user except user1. I had only one reerence to files1/test in my conf file so I commented it out and restarted the daemon. Checked the client log file again only to find out that the same thing was occuring. My next step was to get rid of the /files1/test directory. Having done this I restarted the daemon and lo and behold we are printing. Thanks again Joel. I am really stumped as to why this was happening because there was a Homes share defined which was supposed to be files1/%g/%U. This was being displayed in Windows Explorer as the home directory...not /files1/test...h any thoughts? Joel. I am not sure why your email did not get through. Please try again copying to [EMAIL PROTECTED] This will allow me to follow up on our end if it does not get through to my regular address. [Samba] Printing problem
I currently have Samba set up in a test environment. Samba is installed and running on a Unix box, Solaris 8. I have one workstation which I use to access it. I have created three identical users: User1, User2, User3. I have a printer installed on the Unix box. All three users can see the shares (including the printer) while browsing the tree. The problem is when I login to the workstation as User1 printing works just fine but I have no success printing as User2 or User3. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? [Samba] Re: Printing Problem
Oscar. I am having the identical problem. Posted to the group a couple of weeks ago but have not been able to resolve the problem. I am new to Samba and still trying to resolve this so I would really appreciate it if you could keep me posted on any progress you make. I have omitted the 'rm' portion on my print command so I am able to see the print job get spooled to /tmp (the path specified in my printer share) but it never gets passed on to the printer. Like you I am able to print the file manually from /tmp. Here is a snip from my log file which was not included in my original posting (samba printing on Solaris 8, posted on Dec 11 2002): [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] smbd/ipc.c:named_pipe(335) named pipe command on <> name [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] smbd/ipc.c:api_fd_reply(297) Got API command 0x26 on pipe "spoolss" (pnum 7030)free_pipe_context: destroying talloc pool of size 0 [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] rpc_server/srv_pipe.c:api_pipe_request(1152) Doing \PIPE\spoolss [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] rpc_server/srv_pipe.c:api_rpcTNP(1184) api_rpcTNP: rpc command: SPOOLSS_OPENPRINTEREX checking name: \\Hydra\lasersys [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] rpc_server/srv_spoolss_nt.c:set_printer_hnd_printertype(377) Setting printer type=\\Hydra\lasersys [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] lib/util_seaccess.c:se_access_check(242) se_access_check: user sid is S-1-5-21-2119108545-1539534483-2980339713-4096 [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] lib/util_seaccess.c:se_access_check(245) se_access_check: also S-1-5-21-2119108545-1539534483-2980339713-7001 [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] lib/util_seaccess.c:se_access_check(245) se_access_check: also S-1-1-0 [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] lib/util_seaccess.c:se_access_check(245) se_access_check: also S-1-5-2 [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] lib/util_seaccess.c:se_access_check(245) se_access_check: also S-1-5-11 [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] rpc_server/srv_pipe_hnd.c:free_pipe_context(417) free_pipe_context: destroying talloc pool of size 1968 [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] smbd/process.c:process_smb(860) Transaction 472 of length 144 [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] smbd/process.c:switch_message(667) switch message SMBtrans (pid 2479) [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] smbd/ipc.c:reply_trans(483) trans <\PIPE\> data=64 params=0 setup=2 [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] smbd/ipc.c:named_pipe(335) named pipe command on <> name [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] smbd/ipc.c:api_fd_reply(297) Got API command 0x26 on pipe "spoolss" (pnum 7030)free_pipe_context: destroying talloc pool of size 0 [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] rpc_server/srv_pipe.c:api_pipe_request(1152) Doing \PIPE\spoolss [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] rpc_server/srv_pipe.c:api_rpcTNP(1184) api_rpcTNP: rpc command: SPOOLSS_ENUMJOBS [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] printing/printing.c:print_cache_expired(758) print cache expired [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] printing/print_generic.c:print_run_command(90) Running the command `/bin/lpstat -olaser_sys' gave 0 [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] printing/printing.c:print_queue_update(391) 0 jobs in queue for lasersys [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] rpc_server/srv_pipe_hnd.c:free_pipe_context(417) free_pipe_context: destroying talloc pool of size 52 [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] smbd/process.c:process_smb(860) Transaction 473 of length 124 [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] smbd/process.c:switch_message(667) switch message SMBtrans (pid 2479) [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] smbd/ipc.c:reply_trans(483) trans <\PIPE\> data=44 params=0 setup=2 [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] smbd/ipc.c:named_pipe(335) named pipe command on <> name [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] smbd/ipc.c:api_fd_reply(297) Got API command 0x26 on pipe "spoolss" (pnum 7030)free_pipe_context: destroroying talloc pool of size 0 [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] rpc_server/srv_pipe.c:api_pipe_request(1152) Doing \PIPE\spoolss [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] rpc_server/srv_pipe.c:api_rpcTNP(1184) api_rpcTNP: rpc command: SPOOLSS_CLOSEPRINTER [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] rpc_server/srv_lsa_hnd.c:close_policy_hnd(186) Closed policy [2003/01/03 09:14:09, 3] rpc_server/srv_pipe_hnd.c:free_pipe_context(417) free_pipe_context: destroying talloc pool of size 0 -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba

The experiment worked. The file /tmp/junk was created when I tried to print the file smb.conf. Re: [Samba] Samba printing on Solaris 8
Thanks Joel. I did move everything except 'printing, printcap name and load printers' into the share, restarted the server, tried printing. Got the same result. I'm really puzzled as to why this is not working. It seemed so simple according to the instructions in the various references. I'm open to any other suggestions. [Samba] Samba printing on Solaris 8
Hi: I am new to the Samba world and I am having problems with printing. I have Samba installed on a Solaris 8 server. I can see the Samba shares and the printer (lasersys) in Windows Explorer. I have installed the printer on my workstation (NT 4.0) using the Windows 'Add Printer' wizard. However, when I send a print job to the printer (Wordpad:File > Print) the job never gets to the printer. Instead the job stays in /tmp with a filename such as 'smbprn.47.Qgayvr'. I have left out the '; rm %s' from the print command below so that I could see the jobs landing in /tmp and not making it to the printer. I really would appreciate any help/suggestions you guys can offer. The following is a clip from the config.smb file: # Global parameters [globals] netbios name = HYDRA server string = Samba %v on Netbios (%L), DNS hostname (%h) workgroup = SIMPLE dead time = 5 encrypt passwords = yes browsable = no writeable = yes # Debug Logging information log level = 2 log file = /usr/local/samba/var/samba.log.%m max log size = 50 debug timestamp = yes # printing stuff printing = SYSV printcap name = /usr/local/samba/lib/printcap print command = /bin/lp -c -d%p %s lpq command = /bin/lpstat -o%p lprm command = /bin/cancel %p-%j lppause command = /bin/lp -i %p-%j -H hold lpresume command = /bin/lp -i %p-%j -H resume load printers = yes use client driver = yes [printers] comment = "Printers" path = /tmp printable = yes create mode = 0755 browseable = yes public = no guest ok = yes print ok = yes [lasersys] comment = systems laser printer browseable = yes printer = laser_sys create mode = 0755 printable = yes guest ok = yes The following is the contents of the printcap file: laser_sys| hp laserjet 8150 lpstat -t generates the following: # lpstat -t scheduler is running system default destination: laser_sys system for _default: library4 (as printer laser_sys) device for laser_sys: /dev/laser_sys _default accepting requests since Tue Nov 19 14:33:56 EST 2002 laser_sys accepting requests since Tue Nov 19 14:33:56 EST 2002 printer laser_sys is idle. enabled since Tue Nov 19 14:33:56 EST 2002. available. # Thanks in advance for any help/suggestion you can provide.
