Hi,

The Samba URL http://us3.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/ does not seem
to have a FreeBSD binary package. I tried a web search but to no avail. I
have searched the samba list archives and i could not find any pointers
either. Any assistance would be most welcome

Hi Group,

I'm using samba 3.x as a pdc and I'm having a big problem using Office2003.

Only if I'm a user in the domain logged on:
every time I double click on a word file or an excel file, the Office
installation comes up trying
to install a component and after finished it does not display the
file i wanted and I have to open
it from the Open File menu and to top left in the application (word
or excel).

I know it is normal the first time you use office with a new user but
it is doing it every time

also after several logons of that user.

It this a common problem?

How do you think I can fix this?

Thank you very much,

hi,

we had the same issues with openldap backend and bdb as backend.
sometimes the backend broke and we had to recover the bdb db.

it seems to be an issue between openldap v2 + bdb 4.2 + DB_CONFIG +
filesystem (now /var/lib/ldap is on a seperate partition and ext3) -
currently this works for us

Hmmm... I know that the processor speed is really
different (eight times faster), but there are other things

Yes but it's the machine which has a processor eight times faster

What about Anti-Virus Software?
From some I know, that they examine every file mounted on a network
drive. This can slow down the performance significantly.
If there's a difference between your systems, you might verify this
by tracing the network traffic and looking, if the opened files are
scanned backwards and forwards.

Is not a network problem, because the samba and ldap are on the same

If you're using an early version of OpenLDAP 2.1 (say before 2.1.26,
2.1.30 is the latest stable) with BDB 4.1 or 2.2 (say before 2.2.13,
IIRC 2.2.27 is the latest stable) with BDB 4.2.52 your DB will very
quickly become corrupt on crashes, or just spontaneously - especially
BDB 4.1.

You might want to update your OpenLDAP version.

Hi,
I use this version of software:
db4-4.2.52-6
db4-utils-4.2.52-6
openldap-clients-2.2.13-2
openldap-2.2.13-2
openldap-servers-2.2.13-2

This is my situation,
is it ok?

It could be (and this is a long shot) that the Linux box is trying to
use DNS to resolve the hostname of the connecting machine, and failing.
I've seen some weird, seemingly unexplainable initial timeouts on other
services recently, that eventually came down to this.

Hi,
I think that this is not the problem because I have all the machine in my dns
resolver. But I check width tcpdump...

Thanks
