We currently run an older version (3.0.26a) of samba as PDC .

You version of Samba does not support Windows 7. You must use version
3.2.15 at least.

Ooops! The minimum version is in fact 3.2.12. Sorry.

To be precise, I quote from http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Windows7

Support for Windows 7 and Windows 2008 using Samba Domain Controllers
has been added to the following versions:

   * Samba 3.4 or later
   * Samba 3.3.5 or later
   * Samba 3.3.2, 3.3.3 and 3.3.4 (with NOTES)
   * Samba 3.2.12 or later

Hi Helmut,

the logs are 2,6 MB uncompressed, each. So inline would make ~5MB ,
multiplied by the number of recipients ;) So I thought a ~400 KB great
attachment would be the better way ...

[Samba] Strange problem with my new PDC

2011-05-19 Thread Marc Richter
Hi everyone ,

I have setup a new Server, based on Ubuntu Linux. Since the Samba
version from it's repository was too old for my purposes, I downloaded
and installed Samba from source (version 3.5.8). Everything went fine so
far.

We currently run an older version (3.0.26a) of samba as PDC . I copied
the tdbsam databases from the current PDC over to the new one. This
seems to have worked very well, since all users and computeraccounts
were accessible by pdbedit. I could also logon with my old credentials,
too! My password was accepted, my roaming profile was read and written
correctly, etc. All seems very good.

Now to the problem:
I asked two collegues of mine to try their logins with a Windows Server
2008 R2 and an Windows 7 system. They can login, but become immediately
logged off again. They not even see the Desktop for a short time. This
was tested on several Windows 7 and Server 2008 Systems now and it
happens everywhere. I can logon with my user without a problem on any
system.

I cannot find anything relevant in the logs, but that doesn't have to
mean much, since this seems very cryptic to me. I tried and googled for
three days now! Could please anyone assist me with this issue?

I tried to send a gziped Logfile as attachment to the list already, but
it was blocked, because the resulting mail was too big. I cannot put the
logs to pastebin, since this ist too big, too. So I copied the logs to
my webspace:

The log with the successful login attempt:
http://www.marc-richter.info/Success.log

The log with the unsuccessful login attempt:
http://www.marc-richter.info/Failing.log

The PDC is named thalos. The Windows 2008 R2 machine from which the
two logins are done is named gollum. The Domain is named MFC2. The
user who succeedes is named mr and the one which is failing is named ab.

I could really need help here ...

Best regards,
Marc

This is caused by print_time_access_check() returning false.
That happens if the printer info stored in the printer tdb's

Take a look at this using the print manager on the client
I think.

[Samba] Strange problem - print_job_start: job start denied by time check

2011-01-11 Thread Jules

Hi,

Having a very odd problem with a printer that I've had up and running
for over a year now with no previous issues. There have been no
software or hardware updates recently that should have affected it. The
printer is managed via CUPS and its details are loaded from the CUPS

started rejecting print jobs sent to it. Turning up logging details

NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED

This has happened quite a few times. Since the problem started, I have
been able to print successfully on one occasion. This was a job that
was sent to the printer at exactly 0100 GMT. All other requests are
denied with the time check message.

I have not configured any time restrictions on my printer, and accessing
it via 'lpr' works fine.

[Samba] Strange problem: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED

2009-12-16 Thread Alexander Födisch

Hi,

we have a very strange behaviour today. On of our clustered (by heartbeat) samba server don't want provide shares
anymore. Every user is blocked with message access denied.

So I thought there is a problem with mapping of users/groups. But wbinfo / id /
getent are working fine.

Do I move the share to another node everything works fine - the shared folders and the smb.conf are stored on a cluster
filesystem, so all other nodes uses the same config file and the shared files have the same permissions.

With log level of 10 I got following log:

[Samba] Strange problem with full_audit breaking getxattr.

2009-12-03 Thread Lennart Sorensen
I wanted to track down what was deleting some files from a samba share
once in a while (which should not be getting deleted), so I thought
using the full_audit module made sense. Unfortunately when I add the
full_audit module using 'vfs objects = full_audit' the windows clients
stop being able to access files (smbclient still works). The audit says:

Dec 3 16:41:50 rceng01 smbd_audit: username|userip|getxattr|fail
(Operation not
supported)|QA/Test-Procedures-Work/Proc-UCP/scripts/no-static-vlan.txt|user.SAMBA_PAI

If I remove the full_audit it goes back to working normally.

This is of course not at all what I expected.

[Samba] Strange problem with Samba as AD member

2009-05-28 Thread Masopust, Christian
Dear all,

I've a real strange problem with one of my Samba-servers. Most of the time a
lot of users get the message
about trust relationship failure when trying to access the share on this
server. Below you find part of a log
where the user can access the share and a few seconds later it's no longer
possible. net ads testjoin shows
that join of the samba-server is still valid, removing and rejoining the server
from AD didn't help.

Some additional information:
- samba-server and users facing this problem are located on a remote site (with
its own DC)
- access to another samba-server at the remote site for users facing the
problem works at any time!
- access to the share on the samba-server having the problems from my site
(different DC) works at any time!

[Samba] strange problem with share access

2007-03-06 Thread Roland_Lepper

I'm testing a Samba PDC NT4-style with a samba memberserver joined the domain
and another
testmachine on Windows2000.
I've setup the PDC and the Samba memberserver. The memberserver joined the
Samba PDC and wbinfo -u
and wbinfo -g is working.

I created a share on the member server:

[test]
comment = test share
path = /export/test
valid users = testuser1
guest ok = no
writeable = yes

drwxrwxrwx 2 testuser1 root 48 Mar 6 12:56 test

I restarted samba to activate this new share.
When I login as testuser1 on the windows machine and want to access the test
share it gives me a
popup that i have to specify a login and password to login and access the share.
This is strange because the permissions on the folder are 777 and in smb.conf I
specified testuser1
to access the share.
It doesn't matter what login I try, I can't access the share.

any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Best Regards,
Roland de Lepper

[Samba] Strange Problem with Windows XP

2006-07-29 Thread Tobias Zollikofer

Hi,

I have a very strange problem in my environment:

- Windows 2003 Domain Controller
- XP-Clients are in Windows-AD-Domain
- RHEL2.1-Server with samba 2.2.12
- samba is configured in workgroup mode, not as domain-member

I configured a share and 3 users. The users are created with the same
user/passwords like

the users use for login to the workstations.

This are the symptoms:

- if I run the UNC-Path for the share, an error pops up: Extended error
occured.
(or something similar, my XP is a german version). No popup for
username/password.

- I can map a network drive if I put in Connect as User. But, after a
reboot,
the network drive is gone. If I do not Connect as User, the extended
error pops up.

- smbclient on linux works as expected

I found some pointers, that Simple Filesharing can be a problem, so I
disabled it - with

no success.

I would like to connect to network drives and UNC-Paths without entering
a password.

Are there any advices how I can solve this problem?

thanks,
 Tobias

new group membership is guaranteed to be available when

[Samba] Strange problem - Samba 3.0.23 on Solaris 9 Sparc

2006-07-25 Thread Samuel Partida
Hi, we have deployed successfully Linux clients to an Active Directory domain
with Samba 3.0.23. We had no problem with the ads authentication, winbind,
kerberos, and id resolutions.

Late we did the same on a test Solaris 9 x86 server, with a successful result
again.

Our problem begins with a production Solaris 9 Sparc server, everything runs
succesful, but there is just one user on the Active Directory that when we
change some group membership, the changes are not reflected on the Solaris 9
server (verifying with groups command)... is very strange because for other
users it is working perfectly.

We thought that the winbind cache was implicated so we deleted the files and
ran the daemon in no-caching mode, without success

¿Does someone has any clue? Thanks!

P.D.: Attached are the config files.

[Samba] Strange problem with just 1 file..?

2006-03-30 Thread Collen Blijenberg
We are experiencing a strange problem with accessing a file, i tested it
on samba 3.0.11 and 3.0.14a

when we access the file (ask property's,copy or just run it) windows
explorer gets system load of aprox. 100% for about 50 sec, and then
starts (or shows the prop) the program.
if i do the same, with another normal program on the same share and dir,
the 50 sec. hick up isn't there.

if i copy the file locally the issue is gone!

the program is about 3,5 meg big, but i have a hunch that it's a so
called compressed executable. (WilmarkWizard II Suite i guess)

samba log files don't show strange behavior (no panics or errors on
level 2).
the server does it's work normally, we don't experience other probs with
samba, it's just this one file.

someone got a clue ??

Cheers

Collen.

[Samba] strange Problem

2005-10-24 Thread Arno Seidel

Hi list,

mybe there is someone who has / had the same problem like me.
this Problem does not realate direkt to samba but here are many people
with good / excelent knowledge in windows

I´ve here a samba 3.0.14a PDC and a member file server (samba 3.0.14a)
there are several windows 2k clients and xp pro in the office.

My Problem is:

a freshinstalled WinXP Pro Sp2 PC (already joined the domain and added
some users) ... and a user tires to login the first time on that pc, he
only get the Box Userdata will be loaded and then the PC reboots ...

it doesn´t matter if the user has data in his profile or just a empty one.
But if i install windows xp without sp2 it works, and installing the
service pack 2 later it does not break.. but if then a new user is added
to the client pc the same behavior as with the new installed pc occurs
and no other user can´t logon this pc ... only the Administrator

hopefully there is a solution for that problem ...

kind regards

Arno Seidel

Hi there,

i think i´ve solved the problem, but i don´t understand why there was a
problem:

i change in the useraccount following settings:
deleted attribute sambaDomainname blabla
deleted attribute sambahomedrive /home/xyz
deletet attribute sambahomepath /home/xyz

and now it works,
could someone explain how these three attributes could effect such a
behavior ???

Well... in fact it was the reboot of the windows box three days earlier...!!!
During the weekend nobody had noticed that, perhaps the cache of the samba
system helped, but on Monday morning after rebooting the linux system squid
would not let anybody have access to the web.
On the ADS Server, the local Administrator had installed Service Pack 4 and
some bugfixes on friday. One of them, KB899587
[http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS05-042.mspx]
(thank you, Leen!) provides an update of kerberos services which keeps older
samba versions from work.
I updated to samba 3.0.20 and everything works fine now.
(before that we had tried: take out the memory, reboot linux, reboot windows,

thank you all!

[Samba] Strange Problem with samBa client to access Windows shared Files ...

2005-04-06 Thread CIKALA Frédéric ROSI/SIPROD
Hello everyone,

I'm having such a strange problem and i hope you'll understand the situation.
I want to access files that are shared by a Windows server, from a linux box,
by using a login/pwd.

To be sure that these login/pwd has the good rights, i tested it.
From a windows box (which is in the same active Directory domain of the file
server -which is AD) i tried to mount the remote HD whith the login/pwd, and
everything is ok.
it works fine

But when i use the mount command (from my linux Fedora box #mount -t smbfs ...)
i get somme errors but in my /mnt/partage, i can see directories. I also can
get trought these, but i cannot see any file quite strange isn't it. look :

[EMAIL PROTECTED] html]# mount -t smbfs -o username=AD\user
//10.169.244.244/shares  /mnt/partage
27930: session request to 10.169.8.243 failed (Called name not present)
27930: session request to 10 failed (Called name not present)
Password:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] html]# ls /mnt/partage/
01/ 5H/ 5Q/ 6S/ 9R/ D0/ J1/ Login/
02/ 5M/ 6H/ 6X/ AA/ H3/ J2/ V0/
4D/ 5P/ 6M/ 8A/ ADMINNT/ H5/ J4/
[EMAIL PROTECTED] html]# ls /mnt/partage/6H/ACG/Directions/
[EMAIL PROTECTED] html]#

before the command, /mnt/partage is empty

I'm not at all an expert of Actif Directory but maybe it is impossible to see
the files of a filer if the source machine doesn't belong to the same
ActiveDirectory Domain.

And the docs i found about kerberos or samba are about the users of a Samba
SERVER, not about the client.

Maybe can someone help me, i sincerly hope because i already spent 3 days about
this problems.
Moreover, i do not want to return to the old web/Php config (which was an NT4
+esayPhp :-/ ... but it worked ...)

thanks

 Try to use:

[Samba] Strange problem with 3.0.4

2004-05-18 Thread Michael Scheffler
Dear list,
I recently updated my servers from 3.0.2 to 3.0.4.
After that upgrade I discover a strange problem:
I can mount/browse/whatever shares with Windows Explorer, MSIE, Firefox
... but I cannot use a mounted share with Macromedia Homesite. I can't
see anything in my logs, I allways get a Connection refused. Maybe you
are not authorized to use this share.-message.
I downgraded to 3.0.3, same problem. So I went back to 3.0.2 and
everything worked fine again.
Anyone knows what's going wrong here?

Bye,

- Samba Version 2.2.5-SuSE on SuSE 8.1 (smd.conf attached)
- nmbd is configured to act as a WINS server.
- DHCP is installed (dhcpd.conf attached)
- No DNS is installed
Everything worked fine until a temporary Server-Down-Time, where another
Win2k PC took over the DHCP job. Now, one XP PC, which acts as a
Compiler-Server, in our network is no longer reachable via the Network
Environment in the Windows Explorer. However, it is still visible as
Compilerserver.
During switching back to the Linux server, the DHCP on the windows
machine was still active for some time but is now definitely switched of.

On the Linux server, which now runs again, address resolution seems to
be somehow strange. Doing a normal WINS lookup does the following:

PAGANINI:/var/log/samba # nmblookup -U 192.168.115.253 -R compilerserver
querying compilerserver on 192.168.115.253
192.168.115.52 compilerserver00
A lookup by broadcast however does the following:
PAGANINI:/var/log/samba # nmblookup -B 192.168.115.255 -R compilerserver
querying compilerserver on 192.168.115.255
192.168.145.1 compilerserver00
192.168.6.1 compilerserver00
192.168.115.70 compilerserver00
The last line shows the correct IP address of compilerserver which I
can connect from my local workstation (Win2k) via the IP. Using the
NetBIOS name compilerserver fails however.

The only related information about this topic that I could find in the
Internet during several ours of search is, that the file
/var/lib/samba/wins.dat is rewritten regularly or at shutdown of nmbd.
Deleting the file (and maybe also browse.dat) may solve the problem.

However, even after I had deleted both files, they reoccured again,
still containing the same incorrect address shown above (192.168.115.52).

COMPILERSERVER#20 1083900666 192.168.115.52 64R
...
A reboot of compilerserver also does not solve the problem.
Where else is this information kept by nmbd?
How can I force a rebuild of the database?
What do the other two addresses (192.168.6.1 and 192.168.145.1) mean in

Re: [Samba] Strange problem with WINS address resolution

2004-05-05 Thread Peter Keitler
Hi again,
The problem is solved so far. Rebooting both machines, first the
Samba/Linux Server and then also the machine which temporarily took over
DHCP services, leaded to an update of wins.dat.

Sorry, I should have tried this before posting.

[Samba] Strange Problem

2004-04-07 Thread Arno Seidel
Hi everyone,

i´m using samba (2.2.8a)with ldap under linux (SuSE 9.0) as PDC for a smal
network.
after the upgrade from samba (2.2.7a) i have a verry strange problem.

there are 2 workstations (ws_a / ws_b).
Both are members of the domain and can connect to the shares a.s.o.
ws_a has a own share of his hdd (C:)
Before the upgrade it was possible (without any confirmation) to connect
form ws_b to the share on ws_a.
After the upgrade it doesn´t work anymore / ws_a prompts for a password but
it does not
work with the users password.

Only one thing which can be seen in the logfile is:
that the uid is searched in capital letters but only if the user wants to
connect to the share of ws_a, if he connects to the server it is searched in
lowercase.

here the normal search:
Apr 5 10:07:11 server1 slapd[8196]: conn=64 op=1 SRCH
base=ou=people,dc=X scope=2
filter=((uid=paulke)(objectClass=sambaAccount))

here the other search:
Apr 5 10:08:37 server1 slapd[8197]: conn=66 op=1 SRCH
base=ou=people,dc=X scope=2
filter=((uid=PAULKE)(objectClass=sambaAccount))

about some hints where to start the search for the problem would be verry
helpfull.

best regards

Arno Seidel

[Samba] strange problem

2003-08-25 Thread D. Rick Anderson
We're having problems getting a certain piece of software to connect from
a windows 2000 server to our Samba server running samba 2.2.8 on RH 9.0

The windows server can map the share, and can copy files and folders to it
and delete them, but when we try to connect to the share with this
software is barfs with:

--SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters--Getting value
without opening a key first

I've found the area in the windows registry where that resides, but I
think it's attempting to modify the registry on the samba server. The
software is a Dialer and we're trying to get it to dump it's VOX files
onto the 700G share on the samba server. The software has it's own utility
where you enter the share, and the username and password to connect with.
There is no other way, such as mapping a drive, to get it to put the vox
files there.

TIA

Rick

I'm having exactly the same problem, except the clients are windows xp
(sp1) machines and the servers are sparc/solaris (7 8).
Furthermore, this appears to be a timing-related problem, as when I turn
on level 10 debugging, I cannot reproduce the problem (I assume the high
logging is causing everything to slow down, and the client to not
attempt to access the deleted directories in time).
I've attached a level 5 debug from a server running 2.2.8a,
as it's the best I've been able to get so far,
but will keep trying to get a level 10 one.

Something else that may be of interest is that I've not been able to
reproduce this on a (completely different configuration) debian/x86
machine with samba 3.0 beta2.

[Samba] Strange Problem with user disappearing - Winbindd/Samba 2.2.7 - Debian 3.0

2003-03-07 Thread Gareth Davies
I'm having a strange problem which hasn't seemed to have occured before.

I have Winbind working fine with shares

Samba Version 2.2.7a

Machine is Linux Debian 2.4.18-686-smp #1 SMP Sun Apr 14 12:07:19 EST 2002
i686 unknown

Every now and then 1 user totally disappears from the mapping meaning he
can't access any shares on the machine (the minimum requirement on all
shares is @Domain User

I verify the disappearance using groups DOMAIN+username and when he's gone
it says as expected

id: DOMAIN+username: No such user

I checked a random bunch of about 5 other users and they came up ok.

I tried again about an hour later and I could see his username again.

I really don't understand what is happening here and how to troubleshoot
this but it is worrying me and if he can 'disappear' I don't see why other
users can't in the future.

Any ideas of where I should start or possibilities of what is happening are
welcome.

Regards

Shaolin

Re: [Samba] Strange problem with samba

2002-06-12 Thread hongwei

Hi,

I set EnablePlainTextPassword to 1 on all windows systems, also I use
security=user, not server.

Today, I found some more information. I found that all windows 95/98/nt
that use DHCP cannot connect to one samba server (2.2.4, Redhat Linux
6.2), but those windows using static IP do not have problem. At the same
time, all windows can connect to other two Unix systems (AIX, samba
2.0.2, 1.9.16p9). Also, all WindosXP (using DHCP) can connect to all
three samba servers.

Again, before yesterday, there was no any problem at all for more than a year.

Please help me! I appreciate your help!

on our Linux (RedHat 6.2) server. Then, I downloaded the version 2.2.4,
extracted, configure it, make, make install according to the document.
Then I test it by running

./testparm

it lists all of shared folders. Then, I run

./smbclient -L morpheus

where morpheus is my host, it asks the password. I enter it and it lists
all shared folders. Then, I run

./smbclient //morpheus/common

where common is a public shared folder. Again, after entering the
password, it is connected. I got the smb prompt smb: \ If I type dir
or ls, it lists all folders under /common.

However, if I go to any windows, I cannot connect to the samba server.
If I go to the DOS prompt, and type

net use x: \\morpheus\common

it asks me

Type the password for \\morpheus\common

Then, it always says

Login failed. Unknown username or bad password.

Could you give me some help?

Thanks a lot!

Hongwei Li

Have you checked about encrypted passwords?

[Samba] Strange Problem with Word 97 saving to samba share

2002-05-23 Thread Jamie Heckford

Hi,

When I save a document to a network share (this only happens in word 97) it
works fine.
However, when I reopen that document, modify it and click save I get the
error message:

Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error

I check and the original document has been deleted and all that is left is a
~WRL.tmp file.

Does anyone know what the cause of this may be?

The individual shares are set up as:

[jamie$]
 comment = Jamie Heckford
 path = /data1-home/jamie
 valid users = jamie, admin
 force user = root
 writeable = yes
 force create mode = 0777

And the directory permissions for /data1-home/jamie are:

drwxrwxrwx 9 root micro 1024 May 23 15:20 jamie/

The reason this is being forced as root is /data1-home is an NFS mounted
share, which will only
allow the root user to read/write to it.

Any help people can give will be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
