[scifinoir2] Spidermn Unmasked in Front of Press

2006-06-16 Thread Tracey de Morsella (formerly Tracey L. Minor)
Marvel comics has come under fire from superhero fans for unmasking one
of their stars at a fictional press conference. Enduring crusader
Spider-Man unexpectedly takes off his mask in front of awaiting
reporters and snappers at a Washington publicity call in Marvel's latest
edition, revealing the identity he has battled to keep secret for 44
years. Peter Parker agrees to the unmasking after federal legislation
requires super heroes register and reveal their identities in a
crackdown inspired by the deaths of hundreds of children at an
elementary school when a battle between heroes and villains spills onto
their grounds. But Marvel's editor-in-chief Joe Quesada reassured
disgruntled fans on Wednesday that the unprecedented move is a positive
step for the comic adventures. He said, It is arguably the most
shocking event in comic book history. It can be very intimidating if you
don't know where the story is going or how it ends; we do, so we're just
excited about where it takes us and the story possibilities it offers.

[scifinoir2] First Movie Ever Shot on a Cell Phone

2006-06-16 Thread Tracey de Morsella (formerly Tracey L. Minor)
For the first time, an entire theatrical documentary has been shot using
a standard video cell phone, the Associated Press reported today
(Thursday). The wire service said that the 93-minute Italian film New
Love Meetings from co-directors Marcello Mencarini and Barbara Seghezzi
features clips of interviews with about 100 people talking about their
sex lives. (About 700 people were actually filmed.) To use a small
instrument that belongs to people's daily routine allows you to
establish an intimate dialogue, instead of using a regular camera,
Seghezzi told the A.P. The interview becomes more like a chat. To
offset the relatively low technical quality of the Nokia N90, the
directors said they used mostly close-ups. The A.P. described the film
as clear overall but that it appears slightly shaky.

[scifinoir2] Nielsen To Rate Viewers Watching TV on PCs

2006-06-16 Thread Tracey de Morsella (formerly Tracey L. Minor)
Sensing that the days of watching television programs at appointed times
on conventional TV sets may be numbered, ratings giant Nielsen Research
disclosed on Wednesday that it is embarking on a plan dubbed Anytime
Anywhere Media Measurement to create a comprehensive system to measure
TV viewing whether it be on TV sets, personal computers, cell phones, or
on mobile devices like video iPods or PlayStation portable players or in
bars or dorms. Nielsen said it will begin a test this summer to measure
the number of people watching TV shows on PCs via the Internet.

If I may say...Civil War, the storyline this is all a part of...is

This is the best thing Marvel's done in a while. And the press/

Reed vs. Sue, it ties (almost) every title in neatly...this is great.

2006-06-16 Thread KeithBJohnson
NPR's On the Movies podcast did a special in this back in March. It's actually
an up-and-coming type of indie field. There are lots of young would-be
directors doing this, and some companies are toying around with the idea of
sponsoring this on a wider basis. It would work most effectively, of course,
for those who sit for 30 -45 minutes or so in mass transit situations,
espeically the Japanese and Europeans.

And in a related news story, Fox News reported that the spouses and
romantic interests of super heroes can no longer get health and life
insurance. Reportedly, the risk of injury or death by super villains
is so high that the spouses and girlfriends/boyfriends of super
heroes can no longer get insurance at affordable rates, if at all.

Unnamed sources report that several super heroes are considering
exiting the superhero business to take traditional office jobs,
rather than disclose their identities and incur the increased risk
to their spouses. If these rumors are true, many city police chiefs
privately fear a rise in crime, which in turn could raise insurance
rates -- and death rates -- for all citizens and business owners.

Representative Ryun (Rep - Topeka, KS) plans to introduce a bill
with special investment account rates for super heroes. We view
super heroes as private contractors worthy of support like any small
business, said Ryun. They should be able to invest in both
retirement accounts and in health/life insurance plans.

On Friday June 23, 2006, Wolf-Blitzer explores the economics of
crime-fighting: who should pay, and will it finally bankrupt the
federal budget and deficit?

Sensing that the days of watching television programs at appointed times
on conventional TV sets may be numbered, ratings giant Nielsen Research
disclosed on Wednesday that it is embarking on a plan dubbed Anytime
Anywhere Media Measurement to create a comprehensive system to measure
TV viewing whether it be on TV sets, personal computers, cell phones, or
on mobile devices like video iPods or PlayStation portable players or in
bars or dorms. Nielsen said it will begin a test this summer to measure
the number of people watching TV shows on PCs via the Internet.

Re: [scifinoir2] Spidermn Unmasked in Front of Press

2006-06-16 Thread Martin Pratt
I am looking forward to this. And I wonder what the rationale will be for the
heroes who want to disclose their personal info. I know that Iron Man is one of
those on the side for this (if I spoil, forgive me), and I wonder if he's
thought this through. I mean, there are a dozen bad guys I could name off the
top of my head who have, at one time or another, wanted IM's head on a stick.
If the fact that he's Tony Stark when he's not in the armor were to get out, I
could see Stark International employees being targeted right and left.

This is the best thing Marvel's done in a while. And the press/
promotion behind it is simply flawless. Iron Man v. Captain America.
Reed vs. Sue, it ties (almost) every title in neatly...this is great.
