Can't blame him. Take a good actor, give him lousy material, watch the misery
ensue. And leave five bucks in the swear jar, Keith, for using theV-word.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I saw him two weeks ago in another cheesy

it appeared he was still glum on the movie I saw.

IRWINDALE, Calif. Mar 27, 2007 (AP)— Eddie Griffin crashed a rare Ferrari Enzo
worth $1.5 million into a concrete barrier while practicing at a racetrack
Monday, destroying the car but escaping uninjured.
The comedian was practicing for a charity race to promote his upcoming film,
"Redline," when he drove too fast around a curve at the Irwindale Speedway.
Video footage showed the red sports car screeching before it ricocheted off the
barrier with heavy damage to its front.
"Undercover Brother's good at karate and all the rest of that, but the brother
can't drive," Griffin, referring to one his past films, said after the
accident.
The film's publicist, Wendy Zocks, said Griffin was "doing OK."
"He walked away completely unscratched, but probably a little shaken," Zocks
said.
The Enzo, valued at around $1.5 million, was owned by the executive producer of
"Redline," Daniel Sadek, whose exotic car collection is featured in the movie.
Sadek said that the car was damaged beyond repair and that he had "mixed
feelings" about the wreck.
"I'm glad Eddie came out of the crash OK, but my dream car got destroyed,"
Sadek said. "I went to my trailer for about 15 minutes and I thought, there's
people dying every day. A lot of worse things are happening in the world."
Only 400 Ferrari Enzos were ever produced, all between 2002 and 2004.
Griffin's credits include the comedies "Undercover Brother"; "Deuce Bigalow:
Male Gigolo" and its sequel; "Date Movie"; and "Norbit."

Gil is the Man!! I hear, though, that the last few years his drug habit's
kicked into overdrive. Indeed, I a guy I know who lives in NY told me he saw
Heron about six years ago trying to score drugs on the street. Sad, sad,
waste of talent. I've attended two of his concerts here in Atlanta, and it
was a transcendent experience. When he'd caress those piano keys and sing
"The Other Side" or "Think I'm Gonna Give Her a Call"--wow! And of course
the crowd was roused by "Johannesburg".
Saddest of all to me is that the vast majority of Black folks I talk to have
never even *heard* of Gil. Or , if they have, they have no concept of who he
is and what he's done for music.

four-part series about media and how perceptions are shaped in the
newest Information Age. When you think about it, just about
everything we think and feel is influenced by someone else: whether
it's Madison Avenue telling us who's beautiful or what kind of car is
hip, American Idol pushing no-talents off as singers, rappers telling
us what it is to be "real", Hollywood pushing the myth of half-naked

and pit us against each other. Indeed, I wonder how many of us--even

informed decisions about American Mid-East policy if we don't even
know what the hell the Middle Easterners are thinking? Perhaps if
we'd had some more knowledge taht up front, no one would have been
foolish enough to think "Shock and Awe" would result in a cowed-but-

No, directed by Jon Turtletaub, according to imdb.

[scifinoir2] Supernatural Will Have Answers

2007-03-30 Thread Tracey de Morsella (formerly Tracey L. Minor)
Supernatural Will Have Answers

John Shiban, executive producer of The CW's Supernatural, told SCI FI
Wire that answers will be revealed as the second season wraps up with a
two-part finale. "I think people will be surprised at some of [the
answers]," Shiban (The X-Files) said in an interview. "Everybody has
their theories, of course. We've got some good twists and turns in
there. We've obviously hinted at some big things from the top of the
season involving Sam's destiny, involving Dean's mission and what the
demon is doing. ... As usual in our Supernatural world, it's not going
to be what everybody expects."

Supernatural centers on brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean
Winchester (Jensen Ackles) and their hunt for mythical creatures that
prey on the human race. This season, the brothers have been seeking the
demon that killed their parents and have discovered that Sam has psychic
powers. The demon, it turned out, has plans for him and the children
like him.

Throughout the season, "hints and tidbits" have been dropped, which will
lead up to the revelations in the finale, "All Hell Breaks Loose,"
Shiban said. "Those things were done on purpose. At the top of the year
we said, 'As we hit our mythology periodically, let's drop this piece of
information. Let's let this out or let's let that out, which will set up
our ending.' And I'm very pleased with how it played. I think people are
not frustrated. They're not feeling we're stringing them along, which I
think is good. The sense I get is that they're excited and they want to
know more and they're going to get more."

Shiban added: "It's really been for us, creatively, real exciting and a
real treat. We started out the year saying, 'OK, we're not just going to
rest on our laurels.' And we were relatively happy with season one.
There were some episodes that didn't work out as well as we hoped, and
there were some things we tried that we weren't 100 percent happy with.
But we said, 'Let's not just keep doing the same thing. Let's throw some
curve balls. Let's open up the world. Let's add characters. Let's find
different ways to tell stories, both in the area of what we call
stand-alones—our sort of monster-of-the-week episodes, where we did
everything from killer clowns to a demonic virus to the ghost of the
serial killer—[and our mythology episodes].' We try to tell stories in a
different way, sometimes with flashbacks, sometimes, [as in] 'The Night
Shifter' that aired recently, where it's sort of Dog Day Afternoon and
you're telling the story from the middle."

The next original episode, "Hollywood Babylon," will take the brothers
Winchester undercover on the set of a horror movie that may be cursed.
It airs on April 19 in the show's regular 9 p.m. ET/PT Thursday
timeslot. —Kathie Huddleston

[scifinoir2] Dawson Rides Again In Sin 2

2007-03-30 Thread Tracey de Morsella (formerly Tracey L. Minor)
Rosario Dawson, who played the lethal hooker Gail in Robert Rodriguez's
Sin City, told SCI FI Wire that she'll likely reprise the role in the
upcoming sequel film, which will again be based on Frank Miller's
graphic-novel series.

"Luckily for me, or maybe not luckily for me, Frank really loved drawing
that outfit, so he pretty much put Gail in all of his books," Dawson
said in an interview while promoting Grindhouse, in which she also stars.

Sin City 2 will be a prequel film to the original and will be based on
Miller's A Dame To Kill For, Dawson said. "It'll only be [based on] one
book, as opposed to three [that were the basis for the first film], so
we'll actually have a full story arc," she said, adding: "I think
that'll pretty much be the only thing that makes it like a regular film.
Otherwise, ... it's going to be very interesting now that all of us know
the technology."

In the first Sin City, Rodriguez made use of digital visual effects to
replicate the high-contrast black-and-white look of Miller's graphic
novels. Dawson's Gail was the leader of a group of hookers who take
revenge on a dirty cop.

In the first movie, Dawson famously wore little but a
bondage-and-discipline corset and leather harness. For the new movie?
"I'm sitting down with [costume designer] Nina Proctor already," she
said. "We're talking about what the hell I could possibly wear to trump
what I already wore in the last one. So I'll be wearing a mask." Sin
City 2 begins filming this summer with an eye to a 2008 release.
Grindhouse opens April 6. —Patrick Lee, News Editor

IRWINDALE, Calif. Mar 27, 2007 (AP)- Eddie Griffin crashed a rare Ferrari
Enzo worth $1.5 million into a concrete barrier while practicing at a
racetrack Monday, destroying the car but escaping uninjured.
The comedian was practicing for a charity race to promote his upcoming film,
"Redline," when he drove too fast around a curve at the Irwindale Speedway.
Video footage showed the red sports car screeching before it ricocheted off
the barrier with heavy damage to its front.
"Undercover Brother's good at karate and all the rest of that, but the
brother can't drive," Griffin, referring to one his past films, said after
the accident.
The film's publicist, Wendy Zocks, said Griffin was "doing OK."
"He walked away completely unscratched, but probably a little shaken," Zocks
said.
The Enzo, valued at around $1.5 million, was owned by the executive producer
of "Redline," Daniel Sadek, whose exotic car collection is featured in the
movie.
Sadek said that the car was damaged beyond repair and that he had "mixed
feelings" about the wreck.
"I'm glad Eddie came out of the crash OK, but my dream car got destroyed,"
Sadek said. "I went to my trailer for about 15 minutes and I thought,
there's people dying every day. A lot of worse things are happening in the
world."

 Are Diet
Sodas Making You Fat?

FREE DAILY DIET TIP
By Jennifer Gruenemay, ACE-Certified, LifeScript Staff Writer
Friday, March 30, 2007

These days, it's so fashionable to drink Diet Coke that you can't look at a
magazine or watch a sitcom without seeing the familiar red, white and silver
can materialize. The popular beverage even has a nickname, lovingly known in
some circles as "DC." But is there a health danger lurking in your chic soda
habit? Besides the possible health risks associated with consuming
 sugar
substitutes, no other health risk had been associated with drinking diet
sodas of any flavor or brand, until now. Recent research shows that the
sugar substitutes used in diet sodas may actually disable your appetite
control center, making you feel hungrier than you actually are and causing
you to overeat. Even though the basic thought process behind switching from
sugar-laden sodas to sugar-free sodas makes sense, the research shows
otherwise. That's not to say that you should switch back to regular sodas,
which will cause your blood sugar levels to soar and then crash, increasing
hunger levels and contributing to feelings of daytime fatigue and decreased
mental clarity. If you are concerned about a persistent appetite and are
watching your waistline, drinking water is always your best option for both
appetite control and better overall health. A good rule of thumb is: If
you're thirsty, stick with water!

yeah I plan to check out Al Jazeera on the Net. Definitely not at my job,
though, which has been on a craze recently of blocking sites from You Tube to
Tom Joyner's audio recordings (Internet radio). And I guess I should be
prepared for my name to go on someone's list for doing so, as we know the ISP
and search company's aren't exactly protecting our privacy.

Thanks for posting this. I've been watching it. It is good, as it
usually is. You can watch/read Al Jazeera via the Internet. IF you
want access, you'll have to write to your cable provider and
congressional reps.

I know we send a lot of e-mails around, and I know many of us rant
and rave about all sorts of issues. Truth, it must be hard somedays
to decide what latest issue is worth worrying about, which cause
warrants our attention. But the following is worth a look. It's a
four-part series about media and how perceptions are shaped in the
newest Information Age.
Spartans fighting an army of degenerates, or the President
influencing our thoughts on everything from religion to social
issues, we're bombarded with sights and sounds and slogans that
say "This is good" or "This is bad". Nowhere has this been in more
evidence recently than the ideological battle of America vs. the
Middle East, and America vs.--America, where soundbites, controlled
messages, and subtle manipulations have been used to sway the public
and pit us against each other. Indeed, I wonder how many of us--even
those who think of ourselves as "free thinkers"--realize how much our
minds are influenced by the media, and just how partisan and
subjective that media has become nowadays.

> I watched the fourth part of the series, "War of Ideas", last
night. It focuses on how Arab and Middle Eastern TV is fast
approaching the sophistication of American TV, technologically, and,
especially, psychologically. One guy compared an Arab station to Fox,
with the same slickly packaged pandering-to-the-crowd format. It
touches on Al-Jazeera and its influence, and the regrettable (in my
opinion) decision made by all major content providers in the US not
to carry Al-Jazeera English, the new entity aimed at brining a Middle
Eastern viewpoint to the English-speaking world. Chilling that our
government has basically made a decision for us on what we can watch,
especially given how many respected *American* reporters have signed
on with Al-Jazeera English. Not to mention, the audience of Arab-
focused cable and TV outlets is *huge*, and how can Americans make
informed decisions about American Mid-East policy if we don't even
know what the hell the Middle Easterners are thinking? Perhaps if
we'd had some more knowledge taht up front, no one would have been
foolish enough to think "Shock and Awe" would result in a cowed-but-
grateful Iraqi populace greeting our troops with open arms.

> ...Drawing on more than 80 interviews with key figures in the
print, broadcast and electronic media, and with unequaled, behind-the-
scenes access to some of today's most important news organizations,
FRONTLINE correspondent Lowell Bergman examines the challenges facing
the mainstream news media, and the media's reaction, in "News War," a
special four-part series.
> Bergman traces the recent history of American journalism, from the
Nixon administration's attacks on the media and the post-Watergate
popularity of the press to new obstacles presented by the war on
terror and changing economics in the media business and the Internet.
The topic has special resonance for Bergman, whose career as a
journalist for FRONTLINE, The New York Times, ABC News and 60 Minutes
has included reporting on the issues that are critical to the current
controversies. "There has been a perfect storm brewing in the world
of news," says Bergman. "Not since the Nixon administration has there
been this level of hostility leveled at news organizations. … [But]
unlike the confrontations of 35 or more years ago, today's news war
sees the very economic foundations of the business shifting."...

[scifinoir2] OT: In the Deep and Sneezy South

2007-03-30 Thread KeithBJohnson
If any of you notice the Final Four players here in Atlanta sneezing and
sniffling, don't be surprised. Pollen levels here are at near-record levels.
Note from the chart below that a pollen count over 120 is extremely high,
affecting just about anyone with any sensitivity to allergens. Atlanta's
pollen count today?5738 !! I washed my car fully at noon, and by 5 pm the same
day, I could literally write my name in the pollen that had settle back on it.

I-am-MISERABLE! My eyes are red and swollen from tearing up and the abrasions
of me wiping them. I've gone through two full boxes of tissue in one day. My
throat itches, my nose is congested, the air wheezes in my lungs when i
breathe, and I can't sleep at night for all the sneezing. Been reduced to doing
old-ass country remedies like forcing saline solution up my nose to clean out
my sinuses.

On the plus side, Atlanta has got to be the most beautiful city in America this
time of year. You really should see it. The colors of the flowers and trees are
breathtaking--literally. :(

The chart below details pollen counts and what they mean.
The pollen count is the amount of pollen particles measured within the last 24
hours in a cubic meter of air.
0-30LowOnly people extremely sensitive to these pollens & molds will have
symptoms.
31-60ModerateMany people sensitive to these pollens & molds will have symptoms.
61-120HighMost people with any sensitivity to these pollens & molds will have
symptoms.
+120Extremely
HighAlmost all people with any sensitivity at all to these pollens & molds will
have symptoms. Extremely sensitive people could have severe symptoms.
