Even though the show never found a particularly large audience, Veronica
Mars movie rumors have run rampant since the series' cancellation back in
May of 2007. Till now, nothing has really come from any of the buzz. But
today Mars producer Rob Thomas spoke to E!
http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b79975_veronica_mars_mov
ie_finally_in_works.html?sid=rss_kristinutm_source=eonlineutm_medium=rssfe
edsutm_campaign=rss_kristin and made it sound as if this thing really is
happening.

Thomas says he's about to start writing a script for a Veronica Mars
feature. That's the next project, he insists. It won't however, be
Veronica Mars: The College Years as some had speculated. Instead Thomas is
considering a different direction. I think it would open just days before
Hearst College graduation, so Veronica would be at the end of her college
career, he reveals.

He's just starting to think about a script, so it's much to early to start
thinking cast. That'll come after he writes it. He does however, definitely
need Kristen Bell and Rob says she wants to do it. That's not exactly a
contract, but at least she's up for it. He should have the money to hire her
if he wants her. According to Thomas there's a producer ready with fundage:
Joel Silver does have a certain pile of money that he can decide on, and he
called me asking, 'Can we do this now?'

Veronica Mars Movie Heating Up?

Creator, star meet about a big screen version.

by Jim Vejvoda http://movies.ign.com/email.html

August 20, 2008 - There was
http://movies.ign.com/articles/791/791214p1.html talk last year that
http://tv.ign.com/objects/820/820531.html Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas
wanted to bring that short-lived TV series back as a feature film. Now comes
word that Thomas and the series' star Kristen Bell have actually sat down to
talk about the project.

Entertainment Weekly's
http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2008/08/exclusive-veron.html The Ausiello
Files recently chatted with Thomas, who confirmed that he and Bell met at
his production company office to discuss the Mars movie.

It's very tough to focus on it right now with two pilots [Cupid and
Outrageous Fortune] on my plate, Thomas told the site when asked about the
film. But as soon as I have any free time, that's my top priority. Thomas
also acknowledged that he's had a few conversations with the series'
executive producer, Joel Silver.

The series followed teenager Veronica Mars, once one of the popular kids,
who finds herself an outcast after a series of events that began with the
murder of her best friend. Following in her private eye father's footsteps,
she takes cases from her classmates, while trying to solve the murder and
avenge her friend.

Yeah I sorta tuned out with the way the rape was treated as well, I
found the treatment to be pretty insensitive. Also, and I gotta be
honest here, if I'm gonna watch a show like this, I need there to
be better looking women. I may as well watch Charmed. My
daughter follows Veronica Mars pretty closely and loves it.

I'm about to confirm a rumour that's been going around a bit, but
speaking of better looking women on TV, Nona Gaye is replacing
Courtney Vance on Law Order: CI.

Now THAT I can watch.

real problem young people face. I hear what you say though: there are
many cases where this kind of stuff is played just for effect, and I
will say the show when Veronica discovered who'd abused her was a
little hard to watch.

My fourteen year-old daughter is a big fan of this show but I never
cottoned to it. For me, the deal breaker with any series is when the
heroine is raped for dramatic effect and proceeds as if nothing - or
nothing much happened.

all of the sophisticated investigations and snooping which she does.
Plus, she no longer looks like a teen.

Third, this show suffers from the 'Lost in Space' syndrome. If she

So, the series started to get boring to me as it never really wraps

Well put, Tracey. You summed that up very well. The way you stated that also
can demonstrate how scifi fans aren't necessarily geeks or nerds, but people
who appreciate imaginative and exciting writing. I like Star Trek and B5 as
much for the real human drama and exploration of moral issues as much as
pure action or high tech sets and effects. Frankly, I've noticed that most
scifi/animation/fantasy/comic fans are more open-minded and diverse in our
interests than those people who still tend to look down on the
scifi/sword-and-sorcery crowd.

I think because overall, with much variation Scifi buffs tend to be
drawn to mysteries, thrillers, spy flicks, fantasy, horror (no so much
slasher), vampire, anime, government/corporate conspiracies, sword and
sorcerer movies and shows. I've notices this among my friends, my
Internet friends and on the net as a whole. Many scifi sites seem to
cover all of these categories probably because they are aware of the
same trend.
