Re: [scifinoir2] A New V May Be Coming!!

2007-09-13 Thread KeithBJohnson
I really really hope this young girl fixation is over. I was worried when Joss
Whedon was on the Wonder Woman project, and he too said I'm going with a
younger character than that traditionally shown in the comics. Got really
nervous there. I'm all for the added drama getting a young, vulnerable girl can
provide, but that's only one plot device of many.

What's the deal with Patrick Stewart?

-- Original message --
From: Daryle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
From what I understand about Bionic Woman, the choice of a younger actress
is integral to the basic story. It's not just a remake, but an update.

It's important to note that the most successful franchise on TV is Law
Order, and generally, they like their women to be GROWN.

As for the other shows, I think the teen fixation (and let's be honest,
it's really a teen FEMALE fixation, which, at this point, is just creepy.)
is about over. It's clear to me that there have been some very old men in
decision making positions, who were pulling a Patrick Stewart ( see that
Extras episode) and just wanted to see young girls around. There's no other
explanation for it. The casting of Lois Lane in Returns was just silly.
Katie Holmes is now Mrs. Katherine Cruise, Hollywood wife, bad actress, and
mother. Whoever that girl is in Transformers is as much in high school as
*I* am. Even the kids on Disney Channel and Nick are growing up. I think
we've seen the end of an era.

On 9/12/07 11:08 AM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]
wrote:

I'd add that she not be too young. I'm starting to tire of this fascination
with very young and young-looking women. Buffy was cool, but now there seems
to be a real push for the young, vulnerable, barely out of her teen years
woman. Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane is a prime example. She looks and acts like
such a little girl I was completely turned off by the character. The original
actress who played Diana in V was 30 when the series aired. They need to get
someone that old. Frankly, I dont' care what Hollywood thinks: older women
work better in some roles, the same way men do. Frankly, a Diana who's well
into her 40s would make more sense as the leader of an entire invasion force
than some squeaky voiced girl barely into her 20s.

By the way, although the age difference isn't as bad, I have somewhat the same
problem with The Bionic Woman. Lindsay Wagner was 27 when the original
series aired. The new star is just 23...

sexy in the red suit ? I¹m sorta FOR that. So long as it¹s a tight suit and
she¹s not blonde...I¹m good. She¹s a bad guy. I just need Diana to look
good and eat a mouse. It can be a mini-series for all I care, just please
give the empty calories and give some up and coming actors some work. It¹s
 V. It won¹t be a Harlan Ellison script. Hell, not even a Warren Ellis
script. It¹s gonna be ³A leader who is charismatic and powerful lies to the
masses about his/her intent to take over a small country in the middle
ea---er, planet. A filmmaker/journalist (hmm) discovers the truth and goes
on a mission to expose the regime. He is captured. He escapes. The people
make noise. But the people are American, and so the regime does what it
wants anyway.² We¹ve not only SEEN this when it was done originally, we
watched Karl Rove remix it in real life.

All I ask is that they not make Diana blonde, and they can count on me for
 at least three episodes.

Which is why it will be horrible. Diana will be pouty and sexy. She will walk

be a young girl not a woman. It won't last.

Lindsay Wagner was 27 when the original series
aired. The new star is just 23...

Re: [scifinoir2] A New V May Be Coming!!

2007-09-12 Thread Daryle

Re: [scifinoir2] A New V May Be Coming!!

2007-09-11 Thread Daryle

Nah, depends on what network does it. ³V² on NBC would have dynamite music.
Heroes¹ choice of Wendy Lisa was brilliant. The problem would be that
they¹d justify wacky casting decisions with ³well, it worked on
Galactica², when really...it didn¹t.

Everybody knows that the star of the V series is Diana. Cast her wrong, and
the show¹s useless. I think everything depends on Bionic Woman. If that
series has great action and not so much Gundam-esque dialogue, then all
the remakes that follow will use that as the template.

I¹m curious as to why they aren¹t giving ³Aquaman² another go. Looks like
there are enough producers here that will un-Smallville the concept enough
to be interesting.

I do not claim to speak for all of the men in our group, but uhm...pouty and
sexy in the red suit ?

The first Diane was cool. She was charming and devious. I don't want a Diana
that looks like the Vulcan chick from Enterprise. She can't act, She has fish
lips and no personality. I don't want a remake of Battlestar or Xena . I want
action and character.

I'm reserving judgment. When I heard they were doing Battlestar, I
scoffed. and in my opinion it turned out fantastic, So, to me, how it
will turn out depends on who is put in charge and the directing and
writing team assembled. Put the people behind Heroes, Lost, Traveler,
Farscape or 4400, Battlestar, even Smallville on it and it could turn
out really good.

Daryle wrote:

Nah, depends on what network does it. ³V² on NBC would have dynamite
 music.
Heroes¹ choice of Wendy Lisa was brilliant. The problem would be that
they¹d justify wacky casting decisions with ³well, it worked on
 Galactica², when really...it didn¹t.

Everybody knows that the star of the V series is Diana. Cast her
 wrong, and
the show¹s useless.

The TV series never should've been done. Sooner a sequel on the mini-series.

Robert Englund, who is best known as Freddy Kruger, also starred as the
lovable Willie on the miniseries V, its sequel V: THE FINAL BATTLE,
and the subsequent V: THE SERIES.

At the recent London Film and Comic Con, Englund indicated a new V
project may be in the works, probably recast with younger folks.

This news isn't particularly surprising; V relaunches, sequels, and
whatnot seem to be in an almost constant state of formation and
upheaval. BABYLON 5's J. Michael Straczynski had V: THE REBIRTH at one
point. More recently, original miniseries director/creator/writer
Kenneth Johnson was brought in to update his concept...I seem to recall
he was actually going to sequelize as opposed to relaunch. I.e. -
there's often, if not always, some kinda V going on. Which also means:
historically, there's a good chance this undertaking could belly-up like
the others.

I've always seen V (I don't know if it was officially intended as such)
as an allegory to the rise of Hitler: a gargantuan, well-armed force (in
this case lizard aliens) overruns civilization, rounds up either the
people it needs or the people it deems dangerous, and begins mass
experimentation and extermination.

If this new concept is brave enough, maybe it could also be an allegory
for something like...say...Iraq? With the aliens equaling the U.S.?
Wouldn't be terribly safe and might even be a little controversial, but
I think the spirit would be about right. Don't take this as a political
comment...just a thought.

You can read a bit more at The Hollywood news - which is where this
report originated.

I always loved Barry De Vorzon's opening music for V: THE FINAL BATTLE.
Sounded a bit like TERMINATOR to me until I realized the ka chuk thuk
percussion was boots snapping...pretty cool in my book.
