Re: [scots-l] Help for inquiry
Andrew Kuntz asked: ...Can anyone help... [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Cindy Ribet): Is anyone familiar with the traditional Shetland tune "Land te lea"? I could really use the music for it. I've never come across it. The nearest to the title I can think of would be "Lay Dee At Dee". [scots-l] Orain a Mhaigdean Mhara
I've heard the "Orain a Mhaigdean Mhara" (Lament of the Mermaid) a few times recently, and I think the reason is that it's been reprinted in an easily accessible book. Anybody know what? The tune seems to me to be related to the ground of the piobaireachd "The Lament for the Union", supposedly the only old piobaireachd written by a Lowlander, the piper to James VI, who composed it in 1603 when the court (and his job) went south. I guess it is just possible for him to have allegorized his position as that of a jilted mermaid... === http://www.purr.demon.co.uk/jack/ === Posted to Scots-L - The Traditional Scottish Music Culture List - To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html
Re: [scots-l] Official scots-l site
But what's happened to some of the old fowk? Gary Blair left the list because there wasn't enough traffic on it, which seems an odd reason indeed. But what happened to the likes of Philip Whittaker and are you still there, Chic? Does Erica still listen in? Jan Tappan? Haven't heard from Timothy for a while. Gary occasionally posts to rec.music.makers.squeezebox (a group I follow as I'm thinking of getting a CBA when I can afford it) but he seems to be too busy performing (and probably trying out his new Kravtsov box) to participate regularly. Philip was in touch with me by email a few months ago but I don't recall seeing him on a public forum since. === http://www.purr.demon.co.uk/jack/ === Posted to Scots-L - The Traditional Scottish Music Culture List - To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html

I've been too ill and weak to play much music or do much typing, but I read the list daily. It makes a cheery start to my day as I sit here in bed trying to decipher broad Scots on the screen of the trusty PowerBook which sits on my lap. best, Erica Mackenzie Posted to Scots-L - The Traditional Scottish Music Culture List - To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html Posted to Scots-L - The Traditional Scottish Music Culture List - To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html

I found this at the Mudcat Cafe/. The Mudcat Cafe/ is the host of the Digital Tradition Folk Music database. It also hosts a message forum where people can ask about / for folk songs. Other queries get fielded as well. Country, blues, pop and jazz lyrics are often requested.
