 Hi,

Oh yes, you're right, it's November 1. Which means that we have less
than two weeks to apply, if we wanted to apply.

I haven't seen any evidence that it's open only to organizations that
participated in GSoC, but I haven't seen that much direct information
about it in general, so you could be right. I would say doing it as
part of the Wikimedia Foundation would be less than ideal, but still
better than nothing. That's my opinion, anyway.

Yeah. The reasoning was (at least last year) that Google doesn't want
to let just anyone work with the kids but only orgs they already know
are good, reliable and trustworthy. I saw something similar for this
year if I'm not mistaken. Again SMW might be able to get around this
as a corner-case. But that's really for Carol to decide if we decide
to apply.

Cheers
Lydia

[SMW-devel] SMWCon - book hotel rooms now!

2011-08-03 Thread Lydia Pintscher
Heya folks :)

I was informed today that there is a very large marathon (up to 4
runners) happening in Berlin around the time of SMWCon. Please book
your hotel/hostel asap or you might only be left with very expensive
options.

Cheers
Lydia

PS: I hope we have a definite price for the conference fee by the end
of the week but expect it to be in the range of last SMWCon.

Re: [SMW-devel] SMW roadmap: how to get new items on it

 Hey,

Following the recent discussions about the roadmap, I'm asking myself if
there is no need for a process to get new items on it. I have several idea's
that I think would be nice to implement, but not maybe not everyone agrees
they should be. I think ideally there should be some place to request
features with something that allows the community to categorize these by
demand. And then a mechanism to check if the features with high demand make
sense to put on the roadmap, and find out where to best put them.

Some people might think this is overkill since there is very little
community involvement with these things right now, but I think this is in
part caused by the current way of doing things itself. Right now I can
either create a page somewhere with a list of stuff I want to have
implemented, that no one will ever seriously look at, or just place things
 directly onto the roadmap.

I'm not sure what would be a good approach here, but it's probably a good
idea to have a look at how other communities are managing this. I'd be very
interested in other peoples thoughts (and suggestions) on this.

Thanks for bringing this up, Jeroen. I completely agree.
I'm working on this for Amarok and Halo for my thesis. Would be great
to hear your feedback on what I have so far and see if it applicable
for SMW. Should we have a short chat tomorrow?

Cheers

Re: [SMW-devel] Code quality, and how to improve it

2010-06-10 Thread Lydia Pintscher
Hey :)

since the use of Bugzilla came up: for Amarok release management I use
a release_blocker keyword in our Bugzilla. So whenever someone find
such a bug it gets tagged with that keyword (most of the time by our
bug triage team) and I can easily see if I can tag a release or not.
And it makes it very easy for devs to see what needs fixing asap.
