Oh no, not *this* again, "eye of the beholder", bla bla, take it easy on
him.

Besides, the ones I've seen with this done to have put red round lenses
in the inside of the housing so they still shine bright red. It's just a
"look" like one's choice of rims or color scheme. If we're gonna nitpick
that, we really are the car nazis the other platforms sometimes call us.
I make quite an effort to prove the opposite. Don't put my good work to
waste ;)

You'd think some of you would be happy there's yet another thing we can
do to our cars (that IS doable safely) without having to spend lots of
$$$. I guess some of you prefer it remain an obscure car that gets
marginal attention compared to the other sport compacts.

Not me. Soon as I get mine back, I might even try it on second set of
lights. That way I have the option to swap back and forth as I wish.

SD> Alternator Options for 2.2 Turbo's

2004-11-02 Thread Robert Carita
I am throughly frustrated with Autozone and other parts stores and the
quality of the rebuilt alternators they provide. My second Autozone
alternator died about a mile from home last night. Luckily, I never
returned the original core.

The original alternator is 19 years old and only puts out about
13.3-13.5 volts. It is good enough for now, but it should be putting
out ~14.5 volts.

Short of finding a place to rebuild the orginal alternator. Is there
a recommendation on where to look for a quality part? Ideally, I
would like to upgrade the output as well, moving from 70 amps to 90
amps. Is there a Mopar part out there that will hook up to my T1 85
wiring harness and bracket? Are NAPA parts better quality?

Seeing as you want more out of it, I think you should reconsider finding
an alternator shop. They can build it however you want it, and for the
Chryslers it's usually reasonable if not comparable to an autoparts
store replaement in price. Might as well do it right.

Marginal attention is a large part of the reason why we have marginal
aftermarket. I don't own a Shelby Dodge because it is obscure, I own it
because I think it's a good performance platform and *deserves*
recognition.

I think everyone here would agree that more aftermarket would be a good
thing. Even with DeMoss and Donovan and Cindy, we still have to
hodgepodge much of our tuning technique. These engines could do much
better with proper tuning goodies. It's not the car's fault. We should
be so lucky to gain the attention of new vendors who can provide us more
options. I don't know about you, but I was here before Gary even started
to tune his Daytona, before Cindy even had a SD, and when LRE and FM was
all we had, bless them. Bless Gary and Cindy too, but more is a bad

I have been ordering things from FWD and TU lately because their sebsites
have gotten a lot better. They still need better information describing
things. For example one sells a trimcal, but doesn`t descibe where it goes ,what it`s
for,or has a picture. I still order from FM,but you can`t just order a set of
intake manifold bolts from their site at all. I like to order things when I
need them, and for them to show up within days. I believe this is one of the
reasons FWD and TU have been doing so good lately. Tu even offers the fuel rail
and regulator for $200,our oply option 2 years ago was a $400 piece. I think
more billet accessories would be nice also.

I got a few questions about the car so I thought I would add to it here.
Big brake setup will not be on the car, the k frame is the dual hinge type
and it will have the light weight stamped control arms on it. It should be
available near the end of the month. I have to remove the things I want
from it and time is a little tight at the moment but I hope to have it
ready before the 31st. The body is in sad shape. Its not un repairable but
its bad enough. The rocker panels are really rusted badly with much of it
missing on one side of the car. The front fenders are dented in some places
but not rusted. The nose is ok with the exception of the air intake holes
that were trimmed for stock intercoolers to fit inside. The front bumper
support was also trimmed to accept the stock intercoolers. Underbody is
rusted through under the drivers floor and the area in front of the rear
wheels are rusted out.

Sometime at the end of this month I will have a 90 c/s Daytona shell free
for
the taking. drivetrain and most other items of value will be gone but the
car
will have the c/s springs all the way around (which I'm told are
different),
The c/s trailing arm, almost new struts and shocks(MAYBE 10,000 miles,
its has
a really stiff ride), a good bulge hood, and a rust free hatch. Interior
is a
little below average when it comes to the cloth parts but the dash is ok.
If
anyone is interested shoot me an email. Car is located in Chicago,IL

will roll and will need to be towed away.

I am rebuilding EVERYTHING on the front suspension and I am looking for input

I live in PA back in the woods so the roads are like roller coasters with

This wears out suspensions (esp Dodge) fast.
I am looking for quality ball joints and tie rod ends.
I have a new rack, konis, polly bushings.
Are there any brands to stay away from?

actually gave a hoot about 2.2/2.5. They moved on, but where there is

the "old days" (late 90s). I think I am still waiting to receive parts
from FM that I ordered back in '99 (they are a lot better now, BTW).

RE: SD> RE: tail lights

2004-11-02 Thread Jason Arroyo
Yes, AND AND AND more awareness means more potential NEW
enthusiasts/owners, which means more $$$ which makes Cindy, Gary, Mike,
Johnny, and who knows who next, a REALITY, and also prevents the few
mainstream aftermarket companies with parts for our cars from
discontinuing those parts.

Again I ask, is that bad? Or would we rather remain obscure?

Off the beaten path, fine. But obscure? No, I welcome anything that
heightens awareness of our cars in the overall sport compact community,
especially since its changed from "imports" alone and now does indeed
include domestic sport compacts. How else would have SRT-4 been
possible? We are indeed finally getting some of what we wanted/needed
for so many years: ATTENTION. But we can definitely use more. A lot of
people are looking for sport compact alternatives to the H-cars and are
beginning to explore domestic 80's turbocharged cars (hey, that's
US!!!). But they still want to feel like they blong to the sport compact
scene, or at least are in touch with some of the modern tuning
techniques (which if we applied ourselves more WE could use, .i.e
S-AFC's) If smaller details like silly taillight projects and N1-style
mufflers attract more new owners, and keep them as customers and support
for present and new vendors, then GREAT! :D

And if you want to look OEM, that's ok too. Be aware that there are a
good number of H-cars out there that look bone stock, running full turbo
kits underhood. It goes both ways. But you can't take out the attention
grabbing elements or you kill the interest. And we could use more
interest ALWAYS. That's all I am saying.

i just thought there might be some people around who may want to try this even though
some of us "enthusiasts" dont want others to blend the "mainstream sports compact
look" with our cars. some of us maybe would like to have a diffeerent appearance thats
not around much on the sd's, or maybe have 2 sets so you can change back and forth
like was also mentioned. but just because theres a lot of ricers around with these
clear tail lamps doesnt mean they still dont look good on a sd thats modified or not.

SD> FS: 1989 Chrysler Daytona Shelby

2004-11-02 Thread Don Cruden
Wife says its gotta go...she needs parking for the winter...

I've been offered $500 by a guy at work but he's not a dodge guy so...I
thought about parting it out but after much thought I've decided to offer it
to the list instead.
If I get no takers on the entire car then I may consider parting it out...

I love this Daytona...hate to see it go...but I must say, I've never had more
fun than playing with this Daytona! I'm currently driving a MINI Copper S but
to tell you the truth, I would take a new Daytona over a new MINI any day!

All for $500 obo...obo...obo.

For Sale: 1989 Chrysler Daytona Shelby, blue and silver; 265,000 km (165,000
miles); full 3" mandrel exhaust from JRB with Ultra flow muffler as suggested
by Gus; 40% injectors; Stage 5 Calibration from FWD; Boost gauge; fuel/air
ratio gauge; centerforce II clutch; boost control via Grainger valve; ss
braided oil lines to & from Turbo; newer fuel regulator; Walbro 255 liter/hr
fuel pump; aluminum vacuum block for vacuum lines; K&N air filter (replacement
type for stock filter); newer timing belt; the car looks exactly like the blue
one on Donavan's Garage web site; good tread on Yokohama A540 55vr 205/55 R16;
spare parts such as original 20% injectors, original calibration, original
boost gauge, rear bumper, etc...

The engine is strong but I just recently noticed a bit of noise coming out of
the A-555 tranny...still strong runner and drivable. It needed a larger
Intercooler to reach the next plateau. Had the boost upto 20 psi...ran fine in
the cold of winter but slowed during summer. Never had problems with axles or
anything else on the car...The car was originally from Calgary, I bought it at
about 165,000 kilometers and have always used Mobil 1. I am so impressed with
this 2.2 engine and 555 tranny that I've actually thought about pulling them
for some future project, like a shadow?

Body has rust underneath...not noticeable from above but on close inspection
it jumps out at you...seats are good, interior rough, body rough...

I followed the upgrade recipes according to those who belong to these
lists...Gus, Donavan, turbo dodge, relentless, etc...

Separate item for sale: firm $200 rising rate fuel regulator from car tech...I
never got the chance to install this device...the reason I'm firm is because
someday I may use it in a Neon or PT, so if I sell it at that price fine...if
I can't fine...

So I got the car to haul ass...never took it to the track, just whipped the
crap outta EVERYTHING on my way to and from work and all destinations
inbetween...I've never seen anything come close to keeping up with this
car...what fun!

email me with questions...thanks

Re: SD> turbo problem

2004-11-02 Thread XDiablo690
hey guysi just recently installed a new turbo in my car. Its been doing
great for about 2 weeks now and ive been hitting about 13 pouns of boost.
Just today something really weird happened. In 2nd gear if I hit the gasd to
get some boost, it hits about 2 or 3 and shoots back down to 0. As its
decreasing in boost it makes a weird sound as if pulling apart the edges of a full
ballon. It must be air getting out somewhere right? Maybe a vacuum problem or
one of my hoses broke? If anyone has any ideas on what might be causing this
or if this has happened to anybody else please let me know.

  Thanks,
   Lou

RE: SD> Alternator Options for 2.2 Turbo's

2004-11-02 Thread Bryan Lugert
What vehicle do you have this in?
You mentioned 1985 Wiring, but what Model vehicle?

Autozone and Napa get there rebuilt alternators from the same places
usually.

-Bryan

-Original Message-
I am throughly frustrated with Autozone and other parts stores and the
quality of the rebuilt alternators they provide.

SD> 1992 Acclaim low beam headlamp failure

2004-11-02 Thread Jeff Page
My son has a 1992 Plymouth Acclaim (Canadian model). One low
beam stopped working, so he replaced the headlamp. No fix.
Examining both lamps, the filaments appear ok. The wires
are not corroded. When the headlamps are off, the daytime running
lights work on both sides. Both high beams work as well.
The switch must be ok, since one low beam works. Unless the wires
are corroded somewhere other than at the headlight, the only thing
I can think of is something related to the daytime running lights.
I assume there is some small electronic box somewhere that does
this. Could it cause a low beam to fail even though the running lamps
both work ? Where is the module ? Is it easy and inexpensive to
replace ? Any other ideas ? I am open to all suggestions ;-)
Thanks,
Jeff Page
