RE SD> Shelby Z, 1987 4-Sale

ron
i feel your pain. this is why i am totally restoring a 1988 daytona shelby Z
t top car and NOT trying to sell it. i am redoing the car because i owned one
when they were new and had to sell it for financial reasons back in 1992. i
found a well worn example of an 88 model and started my restoration. i dont
care
if these cars wont ever be worth anything this car brings me back to when i
was 18 years old. god willing i want to be 65 years old and still driving this
shelby i am currently rebuilding. i let one slip thru my fingers i wont let
another one go. hell you dont get rich doing car rebuilds / restorations for
profit. unless you restore brass era motorcars, or duesenbergs or something.

build up and enjoy the car for what it is. the grandaddy of sport compacts.
chrysler was way ahead of their time back then in the 1980s. it will take some
time before these cars will be worth something. i could remember when i was 16
years old back in the mid 1980s i bought a 1968 dodge charger with a 383 inch
V8 in running condition for $400. you cant do this today. just empty 68/69
charger body shells with titles are hitting $3,000 on ebay. then you gotta dump
a wad of cash just to make it drivable. i think turbo mopars will end up this
way. forgotten then found again. only time will tell, but for now i am
hoarding cars and parts while they are still cheap and plentiful for when that
day
arrives.

2005-02-21 Thread Mike Fisher
Ron,
Once again, I apologize for coming across in a bad way, and yes, after I
reread it, I can see why you would think that I would. But my question
to you is this: Why would you pour that much money into an almost 20
year old car and then sell it? It seems that a lot of people sink a ton
of money in these cars and then sell them not too much later. If they
are "wonderful", why sell it and work on a Ford product? Maybe I am
sounding negative again, but I have my 85 SC that I bought when I was in
high school 13 years ago, and I have no intentions of selling it.
Granted I have not poured thousands of dollars into this car, but I see
no point in selling a car that has brought me tons of joy and has cost
me very little to maintain. Plus, I doubt that I would get more than
half of what I have in it if I did sell it. Once again, I am sorry for
sounding negative, but someone please let me know if this is out of line
at all. Thanks.

Mike

Mike,
Your response is exactly why I no longer want to keep this car. I have
dumped thousands of dollars into a Dodge that will beat the crap out
of rice boxes in all types of racing and even the loyal SDML list
members will talk trash about these wonderful turbo cars. When
supposed turbo Dodge enthusiasts talk negative about our rides it is
time to move on!! So I will.

Since this car is worth vary little, maybe some energenic SDML soul
will buy it to part it out or maybe I should!
It is a red 87 Daytona shelby Z with grey valour interior. Has
undercarriage rust but overall body and paint look good(doesn't have
the typical paint peeling problem of Chrysler cars). Has the infinity
stereo/cassett player with great sounding speakers and has the crab
wheel with good rubber.
Optional parts, with less than 10,000 miles of use include: Bill's
Speed Shop engine over hauled and made the 2.2 engine bullitt proof
with a 475 high lift cam and ported head/ported two piece manifold/
ported turbo all matched to the intake and exhaust ports, new clutch
with less than 1,000 miles on it, new Billstein struts, rear
dampeners, new Energy Poly suspension, new shifter and cables, new A/C
compressor with 134 refrigerant conversion, new garrett turbo, 2 1/2

Re: SD> Shelby Z, 1987 4-Sale

2005-02-21 Thread Chad Lyons
Here's my answer Mike's question:

Why would you pour that much money into an almost 20 year old car and then sell
it?

I have poured a lot of money into an old car then sold it. I have done this
several times...
Why? Usually due to burn out. It seems I'm always sinking money into a car, the
problem is/was
that the car wasn't exactly what I wanted.
I sold my 87 Shelby Z T-Top, T-II (very nice but not a perfect car) a couple
years ago. I loved
the car but I sold it(it was my last TD for quite some time). The last time I
did this was
because:
1. It was an 87, 87s are nice, but I really want an 89-up Daytona Shelby, or
IROC R/T
2. I didn't have a driveway, much less a garage at the time.
3. I had sunk a bunch of money in it and was "fed up" at the time.
4. I needed a truck and bought one, I didn't have anywhere to keep the Daytona
and was afraid of
keeping in the yard or on the street.
5. I had lost my good job and was making a small portion of my former
employment, hard to keep
multiple cars.
6. I used to drive them hard on occasion, not good for the car's longevity. I
tried making it both
a race car and daily driver... not a great combination.
7. The 87 was a T-Top car and I really wanted a factory sunroof car so I would
have to worry about
finding the weatherstrip and other unique components of a T-Top car.

Now at this time, I bought a house with a large garage, I'm in a much better
job and my financial
situation is starting to improve.. (I was also in turbocar withdrawal)
Now I have a 91 Spirit RT Project, an 89 Spirit ES for parts for the R/T.
I have an 89 GTC Convertible (always wanted one, found a great deal on a solid
car)
And I have my 89 Lebaron Coupe that I drive to work every day. Even though its
a stock 2.5 T-I AT
it's still a LOT of fun to drive! I'm getting close to double the fuel mileage
I get in my truck.
Still looking for a Daytona Shelby or Iroc RT, has to be a 5 speed, factory
sunroof, great shape,
great price. So far no luck.
But I am confident I'll find one someday ;o)
LOL

SD> Great Support from TurbosUnleashed.com - Fixed my lean WOT problem

2005-02-21 Thread Robert Carita
I wanted to let everyone know about my discovery this evening...all to
the great support of Paul at Turbosunleashed.com.

I've been chasing a lean WOT condition on my TII conversion. In
addition, I've had a very shaky boost guage. At wide open throttle,
the boost needle would bounce around +/- 3 psi, my A/F gauge would
read lean, and my EGT would climb to 1600F as I would get off the
throttle.

The problem was with my vacuum routing. I had used basically one
vacuum source for the fuel pressure regulator, map sensor solenoid,
and wastegate solenoid. Herein lies the problem, the wastegate
solenoid opening and closing created a vacuum leak, making the FPR see
lower manifold pressure and thus supplying less fuel pressure. The
map sensor must have been going crazy based upon what my boost gauge
was showing.

Anyways, I rerouted the vacuum lines. The FPR, manifold solenoid, and
boost gauge all share one source. The wastegate solenoid now sees WOT
manifold reference pressure at the throttle body small nipple.

The boost gauge is now steady as it climbs to 14 psi. The A/F gauge
reads a beautiful shade of blue (.9 volts) and EGT maxed at 1550F on a
sustained 4 gear pull at max boost.

Please support our vendors, especially Paul and Chris at
TurbosUnleashed.com. They work tremendously hard and provide us with
invaluable information.

show the world how cool these cars are!

And if my Shelby Z wins, I will make CASH DONATIONS to SDAC, SDAC-Chicago,
TurboDodge.com, SDML.org, maybe more!

The link directly to my Shelby Z's page is here:

http://www.AllstateAutoPride.com/
