SD Parts For Carlisle

2005-07-05 Thread David Salamone
If anybody is interested in picking up a set of rims while they're at the
Carlisle show next weekend let me know and I'll pack them with me. I recently
sold an 1984 LeBaron and the buyer chose steel wheels w/hub caps instead.

What I've got left is a set of extra clean 4 lug 14 peanut butter cookie
rims. They're currently mounted on an old set of whitewalls that hold air well
(for rollarounds while you car is under restoration). I can have them
dismounted if your interested as well. Let me know if your seriously
interested in buying them or have something interesting to trade for them
(maybe 4 lug SC rims or ?).

SD Custom Hood on LeBaron

2005-07-05 Thread CA - GLHS
Well, so much for being the first to incorporate that style of hood scoop to a
FWD Mopar Turbo car.

That idea was supposed to be my second project on an 2-Door L-Body hood.

At least my first project, on a 4-Door L-Body hood, hasn't been done by anyone
that I've seen. It's almost done too. Just need to shrink the metal and it's
done.

SD 86 GLHT: idles off a bit, dies after revving/loading engine

2005-07-05 Thread Clay Cooke
Ive finally got my GLHT running fairly well (or so I think, it runs much
better than when I bought it), but still have a couple of small issues I
need to address.

Changed plugs (autolite 63, no champion '9's to be found in town), and fixed
the bad wires going to the air temp sensor this past weekend. Ran better
than ever before. Let it idle for 15 minutes a couple of times, with no
codes at all, which it has never done since Ive owned it. Took it for a
spin, and again for the first time since Ive owned it it ran very well,
initially. After about the 2nd time of giving it a good bit of the go pedal,
it wouldnt hold an idle very well, and after about 15 seconds of this it
would die.

Still no codes.

After it dies, it will start back up and idles ok. Rev it up a bit, and
again, it idles very very low, then finally dies.

Start back up, idles ok again, and again, no codes.

reset base ignition timing to 12 degrees.

check cam and dist. timing, and both are where they should be.

has a brand spankin new Mopar speed distance sensor.

Today I added about 4 gallons of *new* 94 octane, to top off the tank. Of
the fuel in the tank, Ive added 90% over the course of about the last 1.5
years, but I havent run much out. So some of the gas in the tank is already
old. This is one of my possible issues, but I dont think the gas would be
that bad that it would only stumble after being loaded.

When checking the cam and dist. timing, I pulled the brand new plugs (just
installed this past Saturday) and they were black as coal. I checked fuel
pressure, it was about 58 psi, which is a little high (not much), so I put a
new fuel pressure regulator on it that I already had. Fuel pressure dropped
to 55 psi, but the problem persists.

Ive loaded the engine in the driveway using the parking brake, turbo spools,
all seems well, and it does not seem to have any issue with that. Once you
actually start moving, thats when the issue starts.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Clay

Re: SD 86 GLHT: idles off a bit, dies after revving/loading engine

2005-07-05 Thread Clay Cooke
Ill have to check that stupid line to the MAP sensor (its still inside the
car). I know its not as tight a fit as I would like at the union right
before the computer. I think I have enough line to just replace it all.

as for the events, thats everything I know of right now. July 29 is good for
me on the test and tune. Hopefully I can have the GLHT there for some base
times.

thanks!

 Clay,

While I am by no means an expert, it sounds like you might have a vacuum
leak going to the MAP sensor. That will greatly affect idle, cause
stalling, and usually doesn't throw a code. It least it's east to check
and
cheap to fix. Just the kind of repairs you want to have if you have to
have
 them at all.

Hey, while I'm sending a note to you, have we gotten the calendar filled
with all of the upcoming events? Here's what I have:

Dunlop Neo Classic - 8/6-8/7 (not updated from last year on their website
so I'm not 100% sure about the dates)
 Mopar Nationals - 8/12-8/14
 Indy ITB - 8/19-8/21
Indy Chrysler Classic -10/8-10-9 (I thought this was originally 10/1-10/2
but not according to their website)

I was also thinking of taking a night off and bringing the SRT-4 down to
Terre Haute to the Action Dragstrip for a little Friday Night Test and
Tune
on July 29th. What do you think about meeting there then?

Check this over and get back with me. Also keep us posted on your GLH
 troubleshooting!

Re: SD 86 GLHT: idles off a bit, dies after revving/loading engine

2005-07-05 Thread Russ W. Knize
Clay,

There might be an issue with the minimum air adjustment. Try blasting
out the TB with TB cleaner to see if that helps.

http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/idleproblems.html

It could also be a sluggish AIS motor. Cleaning the TB may help that
too, but you can also remove it and see of it moves freely when voltage
is applied. Sometimes the bushings on the motor get corroded.

Speed sensor issues are more noticeable when engine-braking. What
happens if you engine brake and then put the clutch in? If it dies, try
it again, but leave the clutch out until just the last moment (say 500
RPM). If it keeps running, I'd look at the speed sensor cables again.
Make sure the contact aren't oily. Bending the contacts tighter on the
plug helps.

Russ

Went out and basically jumpered new vacuum line direct from the MAP to the
manifold. Still have the same problem. :(

 Thanks though!

SD Non-Lockup A-413, in Place of 1991 Lockup

2005-07-05 Thread Joe Anderson
Thanks for the info.
The next real question would be getting one strong enough for the 2.5
Turbo (early or late production)?
I rememember seeing the early ones with a little orange turbo sticker on
the end plate cover, and assumed it had lower gears for performance ( and
maybe some extra strength too )? No one seems to know on the post 1990
ATX's for strength or gearing.

The non-lockups should work just fine. The SBEC will probably throw a
code
but I wouldn't worry about that.

1991+ lockup A-413's? There were still an awful lot of shadows,
sundances,
daytonas, spirits, acclaims, etc being produced after 1991, all with
lockup
capabilities. Finding one around the midwest isn't difficult.

The real question is if they are suited for turbo duty. It wouldn't
surprise
me if they were. Starting around the '91 model year lots of TBI stuff
such as
fuel pumps, clutches, exhaust valves, cross drilled cylinder heads and
probably stuff I am forgetting all became turbo spec. I wouldn't be
shocked
if the transmissions followed suit.
