Hi, Faith,

Can you tell us how to select a good coconut? We've bought a few recently
that we've thrown away.

Thanks,

Cindy

A good cooking oil that is healthful and very safe to

Oh, great! I do it exactly the other way around! (The dollar factor!)

One thing that surprised me during my recent research was that Palm Oils
were being praised, as when my husband tried carob chocolate when he was
trying to beat his migraines he immeditely got an awful migraine. When he
mentioned it to the homeopath, he said it could have been the palm oil they
use rather than the carob. So I have avoided anything with palm oil ever
since. But what I have discovered recently is that although there are
indeed good palm oils, the chocolate makers use a cheap and nasty version -
the dollar factor again! However, I have never found or tried one of the
good uns!

Hi Everyone!
Reading into the Coconut-thread this thought came to my mind:

Did you know how strong, how sturdy these green miracles are?

They susrvive their drifting journey from South America to the western
islands of the Pacific, thousands of miless off shore from the coast, and
then: they even sprout, and form beautiful natural coconut plantations.
This was found out, a.o. by Thor Heyerdahl, when he made his incredible
journey on the Kon-Tiki, to prove a few of the migrations of the world's
peoples.

A good philosophic thing to know about the "coco" is also that 'you become
what you drink'. Behold the coconut palm!
It stands firm, and tall, withstands furious winds, and is able to drink
the salty water of the sea -- to survive.

You drink that (so it is said), then chances are that you be sturdy, tall

Issent that a good idea, going hand-in-hand with such a tasty drink as
coconut water?

CS>Codex Action Alert

2005-06-08 Thread deborah byron
I would like to ask this list for opinions about this organization and its
strategy of supporting DSHEA as a way to oppose Codex restrictions. I
wonder specifically whether the term 'dietary supplements' is meant to
include herbal medicines and homeopathics.

Wondering if there's a better organization to work with.
Thanks,
Deborah

From: "Patrick McGrath, Citizens for Health"
Subject: Codex Action Alert - Support World Health

You might have heard rumors about the international rulemaking process
known as Codex Alimentarius, or "Food Code". This July, commissioners from
all over the world will meet in Rome to decide upon a global standard for
the vitamin and mineral trade.

Support world health and make sure that we maintain our open access to
dietary supplements.

Cottablishing the world's regulatory model for vitamins, minerals, and
eventually all dietary supplements.

TAKE ACTION! (http://www.healthactioncenter.com/ctt.asp?u=3826125&l=95560)
Promote health choice worldwide. Tell the U.S. Codex delegation and
Congress to make our law, the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act
(DSHEA) the international standard for dietary supplement trade.

As it stands today, the standards that the Codex Alimentarius commission
is proposing will treat nutrients like toxic chemicals and, unlike U.S.
law, will establish upper potency limits. Send a letter today to postpone
acceptance of the Codex guidelines until the following issues are
revisited: the role of dietary supplements in optimal health, worldwide
hunger and nutrition, and the appropriate science model for nutrients.

Take action today to support DSHEA as the international standard for the
dietary supplement trade.

The U.S. Congress passed DSHEA by unanimous consent with the support of
millions of Americans in order to protect our health choice. DSHEA is a
safe and sound model that works. The U.S. Codex delegation has a consumer
and Congressional mandate to acknowledge and defend the basic principles
of DSHEA and should labor to ensure that no trade-related barriers are
erected between us and safe, innovative, and effective dietary supplements.

It is crucial that you send your letter today. The commissions will be
meeting on July 4th-make sure your voice is heard before then!

While any change in U.S. law requires an act of Congress, it is important
that we act now to establish a model for international dietary supplement
regulation that protects consumers' health rights. Act now!

Send your letter today, and be sure to tell your friends about this
important issue!

CS>car wreck

2005-06-08 Thread cmccauley

Marshalee, you might want to find your receipts for your car work. When
the ins. co. totalled my car out recently I was reimbursed for over half
the $$$ of the work I had put into the car over the last 6 months. They
added it onto the amount they paid me off. As long as it is more than
'maintenance' repairs, they should reimburse you. Worth asking anyway.

I have Red Palm Oil from Tropical Traditions. The taste is neutral and
imparts practically no taste of it's own to food, and it seems to actually
make any food taste more like itself. But it makes everything ORANGE!!!

CS>Re: coconut oil

2005-06-08 Thread cmccauley

Hi again. For some, I guess the virgin coconut oil is an acquired taste.
Me personally, the more coconutty, the better. I think that using it for
cooking and using it for the health benefits may be two different things.
I really don't know how much of the 'good stuff' is lost when used for
cooking, but it sure don't lose the taste of coconut! I just gulp a
heaping tablespoon of it straight to make up for any lost goodies. Again,
acquired taste/mouthfeel. I know they make a non-coconutty flavored oil
at TT. I haven't tried it though.
http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/epco.htm

I did try some other kind of non flavored coconut oil (Spectrum?) and I
didn't like it. Tasted weird to me.

The oats at coconutoil-online.com are very very good. I have some of those
too. The big canisters are great.

Thanks for allowing my off topic post Mike.

Hi, everyone,
Well, it took me to the age of 53, but I finally was in my first car
wreck! I was nearly T-boned this afternoon by a big pickup, whose
(uninsured) driver blew right through the stop sign. No damage to him, of
course, but my little Ford Escort was totaled. I`m bruised and sore, but
OK. Sheesh...

(How do the NASCAR drivers do it? )
Worst thing of all, I had just gotten 4 new tires, a new windshield, done
the smog and inspection, fixed the worn tie rod and got an alignment,
registered it in Utah, and filled the gas tank, all in the last 2 weeks.
Nearly 1000 bucks down the drain.

Whatever.
Am I glad to still be alive?
Not necessarily. Only for the Pugs.

Marshalee
