Re: CS>Poison Ivy

2006-04-29 Thread V
Hi Jeff,

poison ivy is really not an infection. what causes it is an oily acid called
carbolic acid. It soaks through the skin and combines with some substance in a
lower layer of the skin and produces a substance that the imuune system then
reacts to with blistering. I have had it many times and have not found
something that gets rid if it fast. I wonder if the DMSO might carry the
carbolic acid further into the body. It may not be good if it does that.

Take care,
 V

I would take a shirt pocket CS generator with me,

My phone line generator is labeled "Phone Line Tester", which it is, in
case anyone should question it.

I'd be more worried about the baggage screeners. I think they're not
too keen on liquids going through, especially if not in factory sealed
containers. Checked bags might be less of a problem than carry-on.

I don't expect the x-ray machine will have much effect. Hopefully
others will have some experiences to guide you.

Be well,

RE: CS>Poison Ivy

2006-04-29 Thread Jim Holmes
The first thing to do is to bathe thoroughly as soon as possible after
exposure to remove as much of the plant juice as possible. Remove your
clothing immediately and put it into the washer, touching as littlie as
possible. . Calomine (sp?) lotion is what was traditionally used for
palliative relief. .

I do not know of a cure, but I do know of a preventative. It was on the
market in the 50's for sure. It is called "Ivy Dry". It is simply a
tincture or aqueous extraction of the leaf of PI and PO.

There are three small bottles. You take one today, one tomorrow, and one 30
days hence. You will be completely immune to the effects of the plants for
one year, assuming you respond as I did. From this, I got the Idea of
eating the flowering tops of the Juniper trees, and essentially cured myself
of a vicious allergy to them. Later, I learned that the local
natives---Turtle Islanders---did the same thing.

  John,
I'd be hesitant to use paper towel in a liquid made for drinking as paper
bleached with chlorine creates dangerous toxins such as dioxins. Maybe a better
choice would be to use unbleached coffee filter paper.

  wow.

I have been doing some experimenting with making bulk CS.

I have come up with the following setup.

1 x 5 gallon (imperial) fish tank
1 x 36 square inches 99.99% silver plate
1 x 36 square inches brass plate.
1 x aquarium water pump
1 x 30volt DC power supply, with adjustable current regulation.

I spaced the plates @ 3 inches, I wrapped the brass plate in paper

prevent the gunge from being circulated in the water. I limited the
current
to 100ma.

By wrapping the brass plate in paper towelling I don't need to wipe the
plate clean.

8 hours later, I have 5 gals of perfectly clear CS solution, which
reads
25uS on my Hanna HI98308 TDS meter.

I used current control because I didn't have the time to "babysit" the
process

I used Bob Berger's book as a guide for construction and I am building
45

Hope this is of interest to the group
