The MgCl will react with the AgOH (ionic portion) producing AgCl, silver
chloride. I would not recommend it.

Silver chloride is what is formed when ionic silver is digested. It has
a solubility of only about .8 or so ppm depending on the temperature,
and thus most of it will quickly precipitate out if in a container. In
large quantities it can cause argyria.

CSCS H2O2

2011-08-31 Thread Bruce Anderson

Marshall and/or anyone else:

How much H2O2 can you add to CS/EIS and still have EIS?
I ask because I have a brew cell that holds two gallons + a liter and
after brewing I had 28 ppm.
I then added 1/4 cup of H2O2 to convert as much particulate silver to
ionic as possible.
When I did, it turned milky. To get it back to clear, I added almost
four cups of H2O2.

It has a fine Tyndall and is reading 44.3 ppm on my Hanna PWT.
What do I have?
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
TIA:
Bruce A

Re: CSCS H2O2

I use a half 1/2 teaspoon per gallon, or 1/2 cup for 55 gallons. That
is for 15 to 20 ppm EIS. I have found that once it goes over 20 ppm, it
will turn milky if you add H2O2. I really have no experience with
anything with that high a ppm, it is too temperamental. I am not sure
what you have, it appears to have a have a mixture of small particle CS
and ionic of maybe 50/50.

How long after the EIS finished did you wait before adding the H2O2?

If you add it too soon that can be what causes milky stuff.
