CS[List Owner] Topics...

2010-07-24 Thread M. G. Devour
Hi folks,

Just a reminder that, though I don't mind some off-topic stuff, that
I'd like OT threads to be deliberately tapered off in a day or so, so
they don't drag on and dominate the discussion.

A good current example of this, might have something to do with curry,
and beans, and pressure cookers... evil grin

As always, health-related questions are welcome, so long as the answers
that are related to things besides CS are handled more briefly, again,
tapering off when basic curiosity is satisfied and other resources have
been identified for further study.

*Wildly* OT stuff, should always go to the Off Topic List, of course.
grin

Carry on, and thank you all, so much, for taking responsibility for
policing your *own* behavior. That's why my job is as simple as it is,
most of the time.

Peace,

Mike D.

CS[List Owner] Topics...

2009-07-15 Thread M. G. Devour
I think the following exchange was sent to the list by Hanneke by
mistake when it was intended to be private. I'll take the opportunity
to answer the concerns of the other member, though...

Hanneke's correspondent wrote:
Hey! Thanks for the links!! I'm a bit perturbed about the list-owners
reminder mail. CS deals with health, so do vaccines, and just to
limit the subjects to CS is form of ignorance. Why are most of sick in
 the first place?

Hanneke replies:
As long as we don't endlessly carry on about a non CS topic, it is ok.
Knowing that most here are not subscribed to the off topic silver list,
(that's where this post would have gone normally), I posted it here
believing that the information contained in the videos is important.
Before this post results in lots of discussion, I am suggesting to move
any discussions to the off topic list.

The only thing in either comment that's not exactly correct is that, of
course, we do not limit discussion to only CS. I learned early on as
list owner that people WILL ask questions about random health issues
and that things other than CS WILL come up in the answers, and that
that's an important part of our ability to help people -- which is the
ultimate reason the list exists at all!

The only thing I ask is that non-CS subjects get treated more briefly,
so that basic curiosity is satisfied and other resources identified so
people can continue their research.

The best compromise I've been able to forge on politics is to prohibit
it altogether except for occasional heads-up messages about CS-related
or important alternative health topics, with any discussion of the
political aspects to take place on the OT list.

The other no-win topic area is religion, which is also prohibited as a
topic for *discussion.* Having no desire to create an environment
*hostile* to it, however, quiet expressions of gratitude, greetings,
prayer requests, or other passing references incidental to the topic
being discussed are just fine.

Those hot-button topics are a sure bet to cause bitter arguments and
harmful discord amongst the members. Experience has taught us it's best
to stay clear.

These things are also stated in the list rules, which you'll find at
www.silverlist.org ...

Lastly, I'd like to again thank everyone for keeping the group going so
well without constant intervention on my part. I don't review what
people post before it goes out. My moderation is always after-the-fact,
and I depend on each of you to absorb the culture and spirit of the
community and conduct yourself in a way that supports its purpose.

CS[List owner] Topics to be ended...

2008-02-14 Thread M. G. Devour
Hi folks,

I need you to end the Chemtrail discussion, and the truth component
of the Deceived thread.

Don't respond further to them, don't respond to anybody who does before
reading this e-mail.

Also, let's not make a thread out of the Totally Off Topic item sent by
Kirsteen. I know some of you might be tempted... grin

Remember, I depend on you to keep the off topic stuff under control.
Don't bring up stuff with overtly religious or political themes,
please. If Faith G. *can* resist next time, I'd be happier! grin

Thank you, folks.

Be well!

Mike D.

CS[List Owner] Topics...

2007-09-05 Thread M. G. Devour
Hi group!

Let me clarify a few things about topics for the list...

Way back when I first took over as list owner, I quickly learned that
people will *ALWAYS* ask questions of the form: What can I do for...
Does anybody know about... Where can I find... In other words,
health related questions and topics that were not necessarily directly
related to the main topic of Colloidal Silver.

No amount of restrictions on those sorts of questions would have
filtered them all out without rendering the list useless. After all,
how can one even know if CS might be relevant, without first asking?

Then, there are almost always people on the list who have answers to
those questions, including answers that are not directly related to CS,
and they ARE going to want to give them. Any attempt to censor them and
force their contributions into private mail will be met with numerous
requests for the same information, most of which *WILL* go through the
list for the simple reason that you'll *NEVER* get everyone to be savvy
and careful enough to use e-mail as skillfully as is possible.

Given these *INEVITABLE* characteristics of human nature, the
population of our group, and the nature of the medium, I quickly
evolved certain rules for choosing topics to discuss:

Certain topics are *STRONGLY* discouraged.

Politics is prohibited except from brief heads-up notices of matters
directly related to CS or important alternative health matters, with
follow-up to be taken off-list or to our OT list.

Religion, spirituality, or mysticism are prohibited since it is almost
impossible to say anything on these topics that won't inflame or offend
somebody.

The debate over vegetarianism versus meat eating is one of these nearly
religious topics. Like with religion, overt evangelization of either
vegetarianism or meat eating is not welcome. It just should not become
a topic for discussion.

Nor can we demand that everyone conceal every concievable interest or
attitude for fear of offending someone else. Some degree of tolerance
is expected of all of us in exchange for the gross restrictions on
these major controversial topics.

Thus, passing mention of prohibited things, like the occasional God
Bless or You're in our prayers, or Wayne's mention of animal
products in a smoothie, or your preference for a vegetarian lifestyle
isn't out of order or offensive, so long as it isn't confrontational
or excessive.

So, I expect, John P., that you will accept the notion that you share
the list with people who do not believe as you do, and will extend to
them the same respectfulness and freedom to choose which you expect in
return. In simple terms, don't continue to hammer on vegetariansim.
You're not going to convert anybody and it will interfere with your
ability to interact with the group.

Be yourself, and allow others to do the same. It takes effort to get
along. You're all expected to make that effort.

So, religion and politics are prohibited. What is allowed?

Any health related question or issue may be raised and answers given,
even if they don't relate to the main topic.

CS related things can, of course, be discussed until the topic is
exhausted.

Non-CS related things OUGHT TO be discussed more briefly, so that basic
curiosity can be satisfied and important resources be pointed out, then
moved to the OT list, other forums, or private mail.

In actual practice, topic control has tended toward a looser style,
with wide-ranging alternative health related discussions allowed while
waiting for questions related to CS to be asked.

I'll step in occasionally to ask for topics to be retired that have
gone on too long or are generating complaints.

Now, that's not the only way a list can be run, but it is, effectively,
how this one is working right now. As the needs and preferences of the
members change, so will my moderation, within broad limits.

In that interest, I ask that if you have complaints or suggestions, you
direct them to me in private e-mail. I take such communications into
consideration as I manage the people and discussion.

If you see things deteriorating, of course, a heads-up to me is always
welcome. I may have seen whatever it is already, but sometimes not. I
do have to spend some time away from the computer, it seems. grin

My e-mail address, plus the web site address for the list rules and
instructions are always in the footer at the bottom of every message
from the list. Please study the web site if you have any question about
the rules and how the list is intended to work, or ask me.

Thank you, everyone.

Be well,

Hi gang,

A lot of fun stuff being talked about, but I really need to remind you
to move some of it to the OT list, please.

Aliens and similar things are a *really* good candidate for moving to
the Off Topic list.

Also, the more speculative and irreverent parts of the pig discussion
need to move or taper off, and Jim Holmes needs to curb his ribaldry a
bit, again! Sorry, Jim! grin

Links to the OT list are in the footer at the bottom of every list
message. Visit our web site for directions and help subscribing, or
just ask me.

Then I need to remind anybody who is wondering what's going on here and
wants some information about colloidal silver, all you need to do is
ask. If you don't, the discussion will continue to free-wheel wherever
other people move it.

Thanks, all!

CS[List Owner] Topics...

2005-07-09 Thread M. G. Devour
Just a gentle reminder, folks, that POLITICS is one of the prohibited
topics for the main list.

The exception is for political or regulatory stuff of direct interest
to CS users and *important* items affecting alternative health in
general, of which CODEX is a prime example.

We're now starting to drift into the POLITICAL debate regarding hemp re-
legalization, mentioning political parties and particular politicians
by name, and debating the motives of the slimeballs... erhg, hemm ...
fine people we have running the world these days.

That's where you must draw the line, folks. We can't get into partisan
or philosophical bickering, nor swamp the list with the volume of
discussion those subjects will generate.

I've been letting the discussions on CODEX and related items run a bit
more freely than I usually would, because it is so important *right
now* that I think it's worth it. But these topics should taper off
soon, except as further developments occur in Washington or elsewhere.

As always, health related questions and CS related questions are
encouraged. We'll discuss the answers at length if they're CS related,
and more briefly if not.

Lastly, the Silver Off Topic List is available for extended off topic
discussion. Links to it are in the footer at the bottom of this and
every message from the list.

Thank you all,
