Oxidation of ions, Reactions with contaminants...resulting in... Agglomeration of forming particles as it stabilizes. Going beyond around 10 PPM aggravates these conditions and the stronger it is the more likely it is to happen. It CAN happen as low as 5 PPM if the current density of the generator was high enough to produce oxide particles. [golden mist] At 25 PPM and over, it's very likely to happen. If the particles are predominantly pure metallic silver colloid, they can be of the size range that reflects the colors yellow and green the best in millions of tiny mirrors and won't look yellow when taken outside and looked through in full spectrum sunlight, away from other colors. If it's an oxide, hydrogen peroxide will clear it up and break apart any crystals using an oxide particle as a crystal nucleus to grown on. RE: CSRe: CS turning yellow?
...when you make CS by the electrical process most of us use, it actually has a percentage of particles along with the ions. percentage varies, but on the big picture averages probably around 15%. those particles will tend to stick together and grow into larger particles over time. the yellow will eventually get darker, and at some point the particles will get heavy enough to fall to the bottom, and the liquid will again be clear...probably more crystal clear that it ever was. at this point, if you filter the solution through a few layers of coffee filter paper several passes your clear solution will probably be dead stable thereafter and almost totally ionic. i use 24 liter bottles, and the CS i'm drinking is always about 2 months old. i drink a bottle in about 5 days or less, and give some away too. it was filtered approx. weekly at least 4 times, taking it to crystal clear, and has remained stable for a month. i make more as fast as i use it, and while brewing i filter whatever bottles need it. i watch for fallout in the bottom to decide if it needs it. when filtering, i use 4 layers, and do the bottles in pairs, since that's how they're made (a batch is brewed in a 2 liter jar) and the date of brewing and each successive filtering is on the bottle with a sharpie. i use 2 funnels in 2 temp bottles. i filter the pair into the temp bottles, then discard the top layer of paper and add a fresh bottom layer before filtering again back into the original bottles. i move to the next pair to be filtered without changing the top paper until it's in the temp bottles. i do all this because i overbrew the CS until i can't get it any stronger, and it comes out thickly brownish black by the time it's up to about 32-34ppm. when it seems done, i filter it and brew again. all the filtering generally takes it down to 28-32ppm, as some ions get pulled into becoming part of the particles. the more intermediate filtering and re-brewing i do, the less the ppm drops from filtering... been wondering why that is. it might not be at all necessary to go to all the work to make it so strong, and would be much easier to stop while it's clear and end up with 10-14ppm. it seems effectiveness when it's at least 10-14ppm might be as good as stronger, and the key is actually frequency and volume of doses. but i do it anyway...i might be addicted or something. -Original Message- From: faith gagne [mailto:jitte...@gis.net] Sent: Saturday, October 13, 2007 9:08 AM To: silver-list@eskimo.com Subject: CSRe: CS turning yellow? Re: CSRe: CS turning yellow?
When it is strong, the ions tend to bumb into each other and become particles, and these molecules reflect the light slightly, so it does turn yellow sometimes. I had a quart batch that did that, and I added one drop of peroxide to it, and it cleared up some. When I added one more drop it turned back clear. I let it sit several hours each time after adding the drop of peroxide to it. I am using that now, and it is fine, good quality, and works. The peroxide allows the ions to separate back out, and the size once again becomes smaller. The other time it changed colors was when the silver started to react with something that was in the glass, some impurity. It changed all the colors of the rainbow, nearly, before the purple particles dropped out and it became clear, but still with an Ec reading of about 10uS. I filtered it, and I did try one dose of it, it seemed ineffective, so I threw it out. That mason jar still has a stain in the side which will not come out. I don't use it for making silver anymore, though. Kathryn On Oct 13, 2007, at 8:08 AM, faith gagne wrote: Made a batch of CS about 10 days ago. Re: CSRe: CS turning yellow?
Weel, it reads micro Siemans, a unit of electrical conductivity, and that relates pretty well with the ppm. Ode did some tests with it, and it looks very consistent. It is good enough for me, espcially since to get an absolutely accurate (as good as you can get) reading takes some *very* expensive lab equipment, which is out of my reach, like a mass spec.
