GSE worked well, but has become too expensive to purchase on a regular basis, that is why I switched to Zinc Oxide Ointment, a tube of which sells for less than three dollars, usually.. I have tried colloidal silver, but it did not keep me odor free. Everything else I have tried resulted in underarm rash. Hi Dee, I would like to add GSE (Grapefruit Seed Extract) to the list of very effective remedies. The experts say...that gum infections are caused by bacteria and sometimes fungus. Well, I'm not so sure that science has discovered the causes of all problems that infect teeth and gums ~ people are so different genetically and exposed to a host of possibile culprits that affect the immune system. I think at the least its very odd that everyone who has gum/tooth problems acquires it from the same bacterial strain/family. There may be many causes. This topic came along just in time. This is not the first time I've encountered a problem with a tooth wherein the gum became infected. This time it got so bad the tooth became loose. In part I blame this on inadequate supplements .i.e. Vit A &D and Zinc so I cranked the supplements up. CS I found from experience is excellent as a daily, routine, preventative and maintenance but when inflamation takes hold a much stronger broad spectrum remedy may be required. 15 minutes of daily sunlight is supposed to be enough to provide the daily requirements for the body to produce them naturally. Huge, by that I mean at least 10 Grams daily, helps tremendously as well when flare ups occur. I would like to say thank you to whomever suggested the Aloe Vera. I am not sure of what properties make it so effective, but it is soothing and helped tremendously to firm the area. The GSE one can feel working immediately, the results becoming apparent after about a day or two. It's true that its powerful and must be diluted. Just a word...grapefruit allergy is not completely uncommon. And grapefruit juice (and perhaps GSE?) does interact negatively with several medications. I don't take it internally, but GSE makes a great replacement deodorant. I can't use any commercial deodorant because they all cause my skin to turn red and inflamed, including the "hypo-allergenic" ones and the alternative ones like the mineral crystals and so forth. However, I now put about 400 drops of GSE in 8oz of distilled water and use it as a spray on deodorant. It pretty much eliminates odor for most of a normal day, and it has never irritated my skin. I use about 10 sprays under each arm, then massage it in. I also suffer from a mild case of Rosacia. I have successfully used colloidal silver to control this. I spray my face several times a day and massage the CS into the skin - very refreshing, and I spay my eyes and ears as well. After quite a few months, my complexion started to clear up and looks pretty good now - but I have to keep spraying or the Rosacia returns. I believe Rosacia is caused by demodex in the pores, and I think the CS keep their population down. Grapefriut Seed Extract. Please don't confuse this with Grapeseed extract! It is a great antibacterialcide, virucide, and fungicide. I have used it internally for yeast infections, but it does burn when used in the sinuses. You have to be careful not to use too much. A few years ago, before I had a CS maker, I got the unmistakeable signs of a "hot tooth" beginning. Having lost 2 in the previous 10 yrs, I felt I'd do anything to try and keep this one in my head. Not expecting much with a possible abcess, I started with 15 drops of GSE in water, swishing around the culprit before swallowing. I did this about 4-6 times a day for the next 3 days. The tooth went 'quiet' on day 2. The only drawback, for me, was continuing into day 4. At that point my knee joints began to hurt. My best, somewhat educated guess is that it's the citrus component that affected my joints, since citrus is known to do that to arthritics. I still have the tooth! Every once in awhile it gets a little 'funny' when hot liquid hits it, so I go back on the GSE for a day or 2. If it weren't for my previous experience with the GSE, I'd use the CS but, heck, I'm not going to mess with success as I really would like to keep that tooth in my mouth! I've stopped colds/flu and also used it when I got Lyme, in addition to the Doxy (and everything else I could hit it with!) GSE stands for Grapefruit Seed Extract. You can get it at health or vitamin stores. It is a liquid. Very thick. You might want to check the site www.nitriteam.com as they have lots of info. Try not to let the name put you off--this stuff is extremely potent. If you use it as a deodorant, be careful not to get it too strong. Wow, what a reaction. So you are in constant pain? How can you tell that the GSE is doing any good? Anyway, if you prepare GSE, watered down of course, and add some DMSO and put this on the joint area, it will penetrate to the bone. At least, that is what I understand DMSO will do--take everything directly in down to the bone. So that will get more into the tissue in that area. If this is not correct, someone on this list will surely say so. Re the oil of oregano---be very sure you dilute it with some other oil like olive or flax. Water will not dilute it. A woman I know put some pure oil of oregano in a plastic container, doubled, and it melted the plastic. I saw the plastic and it had been melted through. It got in her purse and smelled loud. So be careful with it. It will do a lot of good though, just don't get it too strong. The plastic was one of those little things a restaurant will send salad dressing home in. Hi Robb Sorry for the slow reply (I'm now in Thailand, not much Internet here). Well appart from CS and GSE I really don't know anything better. You can try Tea tree oil inhalations. I know it's a strong antiseptic and works in a similar way to GSE. It also cleans up the mucus... try. But please be sure to only use 100% pure oil. Start with 5min inhalations, 2 drops per 1 littre of water. Then increase if nothing happens. It's quite safe - there are instructions on the bottles. I only take some now when I feel something coming on, such as the icky nose feeling indicating a cold, or a sore tummy indicating a UTI. I read that CS boosts the immune system, and also that CS is a necessary nutrient that we no longer can get in the diet because of the depleted soils on the farms. Hi Donna, If I remember correctly alot of us here, including myself, have had the same reaction as you. That brain fog can be debilitating and I don't believe anyone knows why or what is causing it, herx or otherwise. As far as CS... I think the lady is wrong about destroying the immune system. It's as close to an antibiotic as you can get and I've never heard anyone mention that antibiotics do that. I've read that it does destroy the good flora in the stomach however so make sure you take acidophilus to put the good flora back. Anyone else hear or read about this? Hi everyone, I think I remember seeing a post about this but I kind of skipped right over it. I started taking GSE about a week ago and lately I have noticed that my mind does not feel so clear, kind of foggy. Is this a side effect of the GSE or could it be part of a herx? Does anyone know exactly what the GSE does. Another thing, I was in a healthfood store the other day where I was checking out the CS that was for sale there. The lady asked me what I used it for. I explained to her that I used it for my lyme and that I was taking it three times a day.
