Re: CS Heated Water

2001-11-26 Thread Ode Coyote
I have found that temps over 110 deg F can produce a yellowish
CS. Probably what is happening is that excessive Brownian motion is
causing ion clusters to collide.

Coffee heaters usually exceed 110 deg.
Wipe the wires off any time a discernable deposit is present. It seems
that the rougher the wires get, the fewer deposits form. I have no idea why
[maybe as simple as a pitted surface has more surface area and distributes
current better]...just that deposits become less of a problem with use.
The stuff on the wires is not 'agglomeration'...it's plate out. A pitted
surface with oxides present [blackish color] 'might' be a less accessible
receptor for silver.

Hi Ken - I've been trying this and that trying to have less aglomeration
in my cs brew. I picked up a coffee cup warmer. I'll heat the dw in the
micro for 2 min. then set it on the coffee cup warmer. I'm using a qt.
canning jar as you suggested to me some time ago. It does take about 7
hours to complete a brew. I'm getting a little aglomeration that falls
off the wires as I pull it out of the water and a little silver floating
on top and the water is tinged yellow very lightly. I filter it through
unbleached coffee filters. I haven't tested how warm the water is kept,
but will. Also, once I've made several batches like this, I would to have
it tested for ppm.

Your suggestion regarding just wiping off the wires instead of making them
shiny is interesting. I'll try that.

Do you have any thoughts on this?

Re: CS Heated Water

2001-11-24 Thread Ted Windsor
I would not recommend using microwave for heating distilled water, I
believe it changes the character of the water and not for the better. I
have a Polar Bear distiller, it makes from 0 to 1 ppm each time. I use a
32 oz vision ware glass pot, Sota unit with a wall adapter( plug into
stove outlet and use stove timer) it takes 40 minutes to make 3 to 5 ppm
of CS. I never sell CS I give it away, mainly to mothers with children
who are have health problems.
Blessings
Ted

I find that water at around 100 deg f does best. Very hot water, i think, makes particles collide and grow.

Hi, I know in the past you've discussed what happens when you heat the water before colloiding, and someone's formula turned out too dark or cloudy or something, but I don't remember what the advice was on that. We just tried heating the water to almost boiling and colloiding for 10 minutes, and the water is pretty dark, though we haven't strained it yet. Should we use this? Would someone send me some guidelines for doing it with warm or hot water? I'm used to it taking 45 minutes to an hour with 16 oz. of water at room temp.

Thanks for any help,
Cheryl
