Someone posted a link to Congressional hearings about Vioxx. You can
download the hearings with that link; check the archives. It is
appalling to see and hear the testimony of the FDA's own scientists,
who clearly, unambiguously recommended disapproval of the drug. They
knew it would cause heart attacks, and in the hearings estimated deaths
of at least 100,000 persons who took the drug.

Yet the FDA commissioner recently called, in an online ad for a
pharmaceutical convention, for closer ties between the FDA and drug
companies. He and a scientist from Merck were the top two featured
speakers.

Hi David,

In my humble opinion, as a FL Pharmacist for 57 years, I believe that each
of the Remington's Dispensatories add items and theories that occur between
the several years betwen printings--updating vital, valuable information and
omitting less valuable information for the sake of brevity.

As for Merck--during my Pharmacy career, I have witnessed the merging of
several small Pharmaceutical Companies into the Giants of today and Merck
has No connection with DOTUSA.
.
Also, I believe the FDA bases it's highly prejudicial ideas and edicts on
the recommendations of their on-staff Doctors and the information of the
Pharmaceutical Companies that manufacture the new items and in the cases of
NSAIDS such as: Vioxx; Bextra and Celebrex the FDA discovers that essential
information has been intentionally withheld by the Companies.

Recently there have been several calls to revamp the FDA and Get it to work
for "We the People" who they are charged to protect, but have failed
miserably.

Sorry, but you struck a nerve--This isn't a NEW thing, but has been going on
for many years--DMSO is an example.

Sincerely,
___

Hey. the 20th edition of THE DISPENSATORY OF THE UNITED STATES OF
AMERICA
[CIRCA 1918] seems to be referred to most often a THE ONE.. does
anyone have an opinion as to how it compares to the 21st edition [circa
1926] >I am interested 'cause this is the edition I have.

also, is it so that the DOTUSA later became the "Merck" of
today??
...also again, does not the FDA base some of its thinking on the stuff
from the DOTUSA???[if said "stuff" suited their purposes perhaps.]
