That part is only for configuring firewall to accept remote connections
from a 3rd party tool, e.g. if you use the custom group for SNMP rule then
you could use a 3rd party tool to connect / monitor services via SNMP (the
IP of 3rd party tool should be specified as custom group server)

Well this can be easily done in 4.6, go in System > Firewall then click on
Groups tab. Configure there a new Custom Group (specify IP of monitoring
3rd party tool in Servers field), then in Rules tab choose newly created
server group for SNMP rule.

In the end I would like to be able to monitor the system. I do admit that in 
4.4.0 the MRTG is not that useful with exception for alarms and high CPU 
threshold alerts.
 
With the current firewall rules in 4.6 and not having the option to have custom 
options within the 4.6.0 interface it seems more work than needed just to 
monitor with third party tools. It is nice that there are options available 
provided one can get past the firewall. (Smiles)
 
I like the Assurance Services model as that may be a viable option for those of 
us moving from sipXecs to openUC.

It was a nice diagnostic tool to get notified when a run away java process was 
maxing the CPUor to look back and see how long the CPU has been maxed.  
Beyond that I've never used it much.  Integration with other monitoring tools 
probably wont work for most smaller deployments but MRTG could still be 
installed along side with a different port.

On that note, Michael, George and I were thinking if we made real time data
suitable for stats collectors available via SNMP, we'd integrate into more
monitoring systems.  While it's true monitoring systems often have their
own custom agents, most of them support some sort of polling of data from
SNMP for graphing or triggering actions against. Being agnostic by using a
standard makes the most sense to sipxecs, assuming it's not too much extra
work.

This is the direction we're headed...  being able to get system (sipxecs /
openuc) related stats for better monitoring.

We're doing this so that users with any monitoring solution can monitor
sipxecs/openuc in the same manner as all their other equipment.

As part of the openUC commercial solution we'll have our 'Assurance
Services' that will be automagically configured by sipXconfig and provide
monitoring capabilities.  On the open source side it will be left open for
folks to 'roll their own'.

My last two cents on MRTG. It's nice, easy to look at, but the historical
data is IMO pretty worthless. There are a lot of monitoring systems out
there which allow you to put an agent on a linux or windows (etc.) system
and collect the stats leaving the prequisites and load on sipx lighter than
trying to do it all in one.

Tony is correct MRTG integration is gone.  MRTG was driven from SNMP data
and all that data is still available on the systems so  you could integrate
the MRTG stats back again.   Going forward it's - BYOMS - Bring Your Own
Monitoring System.  I accept responsibility for this regression in
functionality, it was not driven by any other business goals.  The amount
of effort it would have taken to unravel the code against the value the
charts provided, it didn't make sense.  In addition, there are tons of
packages that do this better, any they may even use MRTG.

information that doesn't seem to change much. What would be helpful is

[sipx-users] 4.6.0 Statistics Page

I noticed in the 4.6.0 release that there seems to no longer be a statistics 
page. Is that by new design or is the feature just not available in the current 
beta builds?
 
Testing of 4.6.0 is going well for me. Thanks everyone for your hard work on 
this release. It is appreciated very much.
