1995-12-11 Thread Warren Rodericks
Hey there people :)

I have two questions:

1) What is on the Hardship Post flexi released by chart Magazine in
early 1994? Is it worth getting?

2) I heard that CBH's first release was some independant tape. Is it
still available? How do I go about getting?

Please e-mail me back personally as I don't know how much longer I'll be
on Sloan Net..

Wow, Talk about wicked :)

Last night, The Superfreindz, Al Tuck et all, and Shortfall played the
Volcano. It was the best show I've seen here all term...

First let me say that attendance was pretty minimal, which is OK by my
selfish standards but it would have been nice to see a bigger draw for
the bands' sake.

Shortfall-Lowest of the Low meets the Doughboys ;) These guys were
really, REALLY tight. Much better than the last time I saw them. I don't
think many people had heard of them before but I think they won the
crowd over pretty good.

Al Tuck - light-hearted, innocent, unpretentious...these guys are so
wicked. I can't believe how different they are from when I first saw them
over a year ago. Chuck from sfz picked up an axe and joined in for a rendition
of Mr. Fixit, which was hugely ironic becasue then the guitar stopped
working, and Clive came out and threw fit on stage because his guitar was
f**ked and he kicked over his amp and stuff. Al finished the set playing
solo. I guess that makes me Al Tuck fan #6? (was there ever any doubt? :)

Sfz- Well, what can I say, they were the Sfz, pure and simple. Matt was
doing all the usual stuff, hopping on drums and doing kicks and stuff
like that. It was nice to see them headling for a change though.

Anyway, I think I seriously incriminated myself last night. I walked up
to carol and Matt and, as per my usual courteous self, barged in on their
conversation. They were talking about if you could be anybody for a day,
who would it be. Well Matt asked me who I would be, and I said..well..I
guess you'll have to check out 'In The Meantime' #3 because carol was
taping the whole thing (I didn't notice the recorder in her hands until
it was too late)

Oh well, c'est ca :)

Hey...there'll be no ass-biting on my time pal! ;)

 1) I had no idea that Mudhoney had similar Big Muff shirts until
somebody told Maritess ( our guitarist) that last week.
WE PURPOSELY SKIPPED THE WHOLE RIPOFF LOGO CRAZE OF A COUPLE OF YEARS BACK.

I just wanted to point out that those old TH shirts, the John Boomer
shirts, looked alot like the star wars logo. I don't know if it was
intentional or not, but it was the impression I was left with. Is this
included in the 'RIPOFF LOGO CRAZE'?

Other ripped-off logos on t-shirts:
Trout-Atari
Punchbuggy-PB gas stations
Treble Charger-Dragon Ballz video game
Sloan-Suzuki (this one is a matter of opinion)

Actually, I don't care either way. I am only posting this in an effort to
avoid studying for finals...

Actually, Sloan did make Spin magazine. If you check out the december 94
issue (the best of 94), twice removed was included in the '10 best
albums of 94 that you haven't heard' article.

I was at the super friendz gig in edmonton last week (which was awesome) and
when I was talking to Matt, he told me something about Chris Murphy and a
white album project, but the gandharvas were pretty loud and he didn't
 really go into details.

 Neal

The only white album project I know of is about some crazy guy who used a
perfectly good white album (the beatles) and got it signed by most of the
bands at the HPE III. I won't reveal his name, but he's associated with
the term 'IMA-NUTT' ;)

See ya..

1995-11-14 Thread Warren Rodericks
Hello all,

I was listening to the indie hour last night and I heard a song featuring
both Ashley Mc. and jale. Unfortunately, the reception cut out and I
didn't get the name of the song (living on the CFNY periphery sucks ;) ).
Anybody want to tell me what this was all about?...Thanks a billion...

Superfriendz By Request

1995-10-21 Thread Warren Rodericks
Hello..

I was just listening to stuff and I looked at my 'By request' and it says
'When they PAY me' on the cover (instead of 'paid'). Does it say this on
anyone elses? I have the old blue one, what does it say on the newer red
covers? I get the feeling that this little typo is a well known fact and
that I am just a dumb-ass for not having noticed it before. Oh well, I'm
going to bed now. What a crappy end to a crappy day...

Ok, I see all this stuff about pop explosion, so I gotta add something..

I think the best set I saw was Scratching Post and I'm glad because it
was good to see an otherwise unknown group of Upper Canadians rock
Halifax (not like that lame band called Sloan ;)
It's too bad that I have seen them before because it could have been a
neat surprise otherwise. Thanks go to Jim for doing the potluck thingy,
it was fun. It would have been better if he let me sell crack there, but
oh well ;) ... and all the people who played at Jim's...you guys were
wicked too. And let it be known that Katrina is the coolest girl in the
world 'cause she put up with us for the whole ordeal ... I'll speed-bag
anyone who thinks differently ;)
I urge everyone to go out east, it's so nice out there. I truly left my
heart in Halifax :(

P.S.-Jon Dacey is a good guy. He'll get you your shirts. Just be a little
 patient..

Okay here's what I know

This show is an annual event called Lancer-pallooza, and I'm pretty sure
it's put on by the University of Windsor. The show is on Saturday
September 23rd, but I don't know when (late evening some time I guess) or
where (probably on campus?). If you know someone who goes to Windsor U, I
strongly suggest you find out the facts from them. They probably have a
fed. student office or something where tickets can be bought. I will be
getting a call tonight about this so I will post more if I hear anything.
Also, The Super Friendz are supposed to be playing this concert as well,
but if they cancelled the Guelph show I can't say for sure that they'll
be in Windsor.

Regarding the Maker's Mark, does anyone know Dallas' last name? He played
with the Satanatra's and I think he is a guy from Aurora, Ontario
(there's hope for you yet Alex ;) named Dallas Good, but I'm not sure. I
was just wondering. Also, I heard that they played the NxNE festival. Did
anybody see them? Where did they play? I heard that they are seriously
wicked...

Jay on CFNY

1995-02-28 Thread Warren Rodericks
Did anyone listen to the Indie Hour on CFNY last night? Our buddy Jay
Ferguson was was co-hosting with Dave Bookman. It was pretty cool,
Dave just let Jay play whatever he wanted to (stuff like The Local
Rabbits, Inbreds etc). I think something was mentioned about Sloan
playing in Hfx in late April. Just wondering, did anyone tape this?
Also, I heard the song 'silver suit'(?) by Radio Blaster last night and
it simply destroyed me. Does anyone know what album this is from and where
I can get it?

Thanks ever-so-much!!!

Warren.
