Great archive...
One message.
I'm sure I could write a great monologue (or was diatribe?) about an archive
with zero messages. but I won't.

Actually I went along to Granville yesterday & wormed my way into the LPI
course. Unfortunately, although enrolments went to six o'clock, the cashiers
office closed at five. And of course I got there at five past five. So now I'll
have to go back later to pay the fees. Such is life.

[SLUG] streaming video web server

2003-07-02 Thread Amanda Wynne

My ADSL connection is about to be activated. Got the
modem/firewall/dmz/web_server/virtual_hosts sorted(in my head at least).
My flatmate has got a security camera. Wants to plug the camera into the
computer, and have it accessible from the web; check up on what the ferrets
(don't ask) are up to. Like what the child care centres are doing so the parents
at work can see the kids. Has anybody seen a how-to, or can point me in the
right direction? BTW, the server runs SME (e-smith).

Nows a good time to pay for courses. Our wonderfull government is going to
raise tafe fees around 300% next semester - according to the documents
I've read a diploma will cost around $1,200. Now you know where the money
is coming from to fix the schools.

 Update about MandrakeSoft status 2003-07-01

Say they have been doing good since they went for chapter 11 in January,
aiming to get out of it by the end of the year.
Currently developing 9.2. 9.1 was just dandy for me, if all they did was
bring out the can of polish it would be still cool, i.e. not bring in
flash bang features, ala trademark mandrake.

One of the two R&D projects they have aims at "wi-fi and nomadism".
Never heard of nomadism in techo terms, but i guess its like laptop type
stuff.

G'day all...

I had netatalk working perfectly (filesharing, printing, etc) under Debian
Potato for a client's network, however after upgrading to Woody it's broken

(The Apple Mac client simply can't find the printer or the file server in
the chooser any more.)
Any clues / suggestions / etc?

Thanks

Mike

I had the same problems after upgrading and fixed it by downgrading to
v1.6.2-1 (the last version that works for me).
Most clients on my network run os 7.55 and 8.1 with specialist software,
so I thought that might be causing my problems.

If you're suspecting an idle session dropout, then it might be worth
using watch to follow the log file instead of tail -f.

watch -d tail error_log
will by default run tail and refresh the screen every 2 seconds.

ouch. a cleaner way would be to copy the
/usr/share/doc/kernel-headers-2.4.18-bf2.4/config.gz (or whatever its
called) to /.config

then just run "make-kpkg kernel_image" and it should reproduce the
same kernel.

[SLUG] Red Hat 9, Apache + mod_ssl problems with chain certificates

2003-07-02 Thread Jamie Wilkinson
I have a website with an SSL certificate, running on Red Hat 9, Apache
2.0.40, and with mod_ssl 2.0.40, all stock rpms, latest up2date too.

Mozilla pops up the cert warning dialog when you visit the site, alerting
you that there is no chain to a trusted root certificate. Clicking on the
"view" button confirms that the SSLCertificateChainFile hasn't been sent to
the browser, there is only the client's own certificate listed.

The SSL configuration has been checked several times, it's exactly the same
configuration as other sites running on Red Hat 8.0 and 7.3 with their stock
apache + mod_ssl rpms. Even tried copying a known good certificate that was
issued from the same CA on a 7.3 machine to this 9 machine, and still only
the client cert without a chain cert is sent to the browser.

I'm wondering if anyone's encountered this before, whether anyone thinks
it's a mod_ssl bug or an openssl bug, or anything.

Re: [SLUG] Red Hat 9, Apache + mod_ssl problems with chaincertificates

2003-07-02 Thread Jamie Wilkinson
This one time, at band camp, Jamie Wilkinson wrote:

Ok, tried with openssl s_server and s_client, and that does the right thing.

The relevant config lines look like:

SSLEngine on
SSLCertificateChainFile /etc/ssl/ComodoSecurityServicesCA.crt
SSLCertificateFile /etc/ssl/site_crt
SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/ssl/site_key

It seems like mod_ssl is ignoring the SSLCertificateChainFile -- though it
*is* reading the file, filesystem access times are changing.

But I've found a hackish fix:

SSLEngine on
#SSLCertificateChainFile /etc/ssl/ComodoSecurityServicesCA.crt
SSLCACertificateFile /etc/ssl/ComodoSecurityServicesCA.crt
SSLCertificateFile /etc/ssl/site_crt
SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/ssl/site_key

That now sends the correct certificates and the cert can be verified back
to the root cert.

Anyone know if the config has changed for new versions of mod_ssl?
