featuring such technology at awesome pricing, either in case only or
complete server. Check out

I wouldn't use it at the moment unless you were me, in which case you'd know

Freeware clone of Big Brother.

There's also JFFNMS - http://www.jffnms.org - but it depends on the

Use Debian instead. SuSE is a waste of time, particularly on non-intel
platforms. Debian will install gracefully, run reliably and is better
supported. I've used Debian for over five years on SPARC systems in
investment banks and would not trust any other Linux distro on SPARC.

I suggest
1. back up your drive -
2. reformat it with a FAT not NTFS (this also allows to write to the
drive from Linux )
3. reinstall your choice of OS then do your Linux Install in the spare
space, if you needed to resize it again in the future (fips will work
for you, and it's opensource too)

I suggest you ask your favourite computer tech to give you a report
that itemises the damage and includes a quote for repairs. An essential
ingredient of that quote is a warranty that the computers, after
repair, shall be returned to their pre-incident state of reliability;
if such a warranty cannot be given then the report must include a
statement to that effect.

There is not a reputable tech on the planet who will warrant repairs to
water damaged computers -- therefore, your insurer will have to write
them off. Further, because the equipment has been classed as
"unrepairable" they may let you keep it (they may even pay you to
dispose of it).

The problem isn't creating the index from disk files, htdig will
do that fine (see the "local_urls" command).
You could even munge the results from http://whatever to
smb://something/else.
Unless the directories to be indexed contain only public
documents the problem is maintaining the security of the
data. htdig assumes that it is indexing a public website.
It has a few facilities for excluding intranet components
of a site, but it certainly doesn't carry forward any ACL
data into the index.

Matt,
There was a particular one that I was talking to a month ago - before our
server crash lost all the email files! I seem to remember it as valign or
vadept or soimething similar - and they specifically had a 1u dual
motherboard rackmount case. But I'll check out the ones you mentioned.

There's probably dozens. Do you want the name of one, or are you after
experiences dealing with one in particular but don't want to mention them
on-list?
Www.elx.com.au is one company that deals in that sort of gear, and are (imo)
worth supporting. Not sure if their 1u boxes would support dual-mb though
(damn that'd be a tight fit). I've seen decent deals and heard good things
about www.aproimage.com.au, but I haven't done business with them
personally. Their range and prices aren't bad, though.

The same one you use to get apache to know that files ending in .php are PHP
scripts.

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php3

That is, of course, assuming that you want the default PHP handler (probably
PHP4) to run your .php3 scripts. Otherwise, you'll need to load the PHP3
module or CGI and use

AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .php3

And ensure that mime type is bound to the PHP3 module/CGI handler.

It's easier just to make sure the script runs in PHP4 and run it in there
(and you can even strip the .php3 off them and this whole problem becomes
moot).

What directive do I need to use to get Apache to know that files ending
