[RCSE] Bird of Time Spoilers?

1999-11-07 Thread Rob Skiba

Anyone have any info on building spoilers into the BOT wings? Also, any
web sites or information in "improving" this kit during the building
stages to enhance strength, durability, and overall operformance would
be greatly appreciated!

TIA,

[RCSE] Kit Plane Article

1999-11-07 Thread George and Jimmie Voss

Did anyone else see the October issue of Kitplanes? There were several
very interesting articles that apply to modelers. Page 4 announced that
Jim Newman would author a 'how to' column like he does in Model Airplane
News.

Page 6 has an article on the record setting AR-5. The amazing thing
about this plane is was the care the builder took with the airplane.
The article stated he backlit the wing to find ripples. When he
finished filling and sanding, the largest peak to peak distance was
0.0036! I don't know of anyone in the modeling world that goes
through that much effort to get a wing flat.

Page 14 shows a neat looking ultralight designed by Jim Millett, who
started at COX in the mid 60's. In the flight performance portion of
the article, the author used the infamous "dive test" to define
stability! It appears that the dive test goes beyond our modeling
spectrum. gv

Am going to combine SW classic with a vacation. Wanted to possibly stop at
Joshua Tree NP on the way to the contest, and after perhaps head over to
White Sands Ntl Monument and Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. Has anybody
been to any of these places? any opinions/suggestions- also any slope sites
that might be working down in Ariz near contest site? thanks, Walter

[RCSE] Looking for New Hi-Performance HLG

1999-11-07 Thread Ptmccleave

Hi Gang,

I am looking to buy a new High Performance Poly HLG. Right now my list of
possibles are as follows (not in any order).

1.) Uplink by Dick Barker

2.) Poly Logic

3.) Mirage

4.) Spectre (new DJ plane)

Any and all suggestions are welcome. I am currently flying a Logic with a
Psyko wing and will soon be flying a Psykologic so I have my aileron HLG
covered but need a Poly option for those early mornings and light air days.
Manufactures and dealers are welcome to promote their offerings.

Thanks for the bandwidth.

See Ya,

Re: [RCSE] Southwest Classic/vaction/little off soaring stuff

1999-11-07 Thread Dick Barker

Walter,
Try to get to the SW classic in time for the hlg contest Friday. I will
have my UpLinks for the unlimited hlg event and will be discus launching
a SunBird for the Old Buzzards portion if I can get it to hang together
during the launch. May have to add a bit of carbon here and there but the
general design looks to be OK for discus style launch with a bit of
launch presets for rudder and elevator.

Regarding this thermal and HLG clinic.

I've seen many say that they'd like a copy of the video. Is there a formal
list developing for this to happen, or is the constant stream of folks
saying they want a copy sorta like hopeful nagging, urging someone to make
it available?

I would like one, too.

Thanks,

Bill

[RCSE] SCSA contest

1999-11-07 Thread John Erickson

The results are in from the November SCSA contest. We had a nice turnout of
25 pilots. The threatening weather that was up north never quite developed
in Valencia, and we were treated to buoyant conditions (although a few
pilots will dispute that statement).

We decided to fly Open Class and Sportsman, as we didn't have enough RES
ships to constitute a class. There were 12 pilots who had scores over 3900
out of 4000. Joe W. put on a clinic in the open class, with a remarkable
perfect score of 4000. As for the rest of us...

Open Class:

Joe Wurts 4000
John Snider 3974
Lowell Norenburg 3966

Sportsman

Alex Emeniov 3912

Thanks to the guys from TOSS, PSS and SSVSS for making the drive, and thanks
to all the members from our club for helping out. See you next month!
