 Hi Ben:
There was four in the inventory computer inventory. I never seen the
fourth one, there were three in hardware and we didn't look but they
thought the Fourth one was in sporting goods. If someone still needs one,
call the manager at the Van Wert store.
and see if they can find it. Tel 1-419-238-5438 ( SKU#

 2. "Full Pedal" launches, even with the much higher wing loading they
create, should still be flown at the sailplanes max L/D.

I disagree here Dan. On tow the best climb is given by MAX Cl
of the sailplane. On tow there is drag of the line and gravity
working in addition to the sailplane drag. Increasing Cl increases
the sailplane drag some but has very little effect on line drag and
gravity so the result is more height per ft of line takeup.
Maybe that is what you meant?

 That speed is
significantly higher at high line tensions/wing loadings. The result is
less time for line to be "reeled in" so shortening of the line is not much
 of an issue considering the altitude gain;

Actually this issue changes with wind speed. With no wind the best
climb-per-ft-of-line is at high tension. When the wind picks up things
can change. The extreem case is when the wind is blowing fasy enough
to allow you to just put your foot on the winch drum and kite up or
even pay out some line. You just have to know what wind speed will give
the best launch at less than max pedal. This is complicated by the
zoom also.

I had a similar problem earlier this year. I used 15 minute spackle in the crease,
then sanded smooth, followed by 2 layers .75oz

[RCSE] Toledo and LSF

2000-04-02 Thread Joe Hahn

I believe Jim Deck was asking who would be at Toledo (Sailplane "types").
DJ Aerotech will have a booth, stop by and see us! Should have one of our
open class ships available to view, as well as all of our other new
kits---Spectres included.
The prototype 100" ship was what I used to do my level 1 LSF tasks--what a
blast(I think I was more nervous trying to get those 5 minute flights than
when I competed at the Nats!!). Amazing the pressure one can put on oneself,
isn't it!!? Looking forward to level 2!

BTWI'm curiouswhat ships/ship set-ups did you LSF folks use for
various tasks/levels? I think this may be an interesting thread,
potentially---at any rate, I'd like to know(looking hopefully ahead)!
Especially when you got into the higher tasks requiring serious
cross-country, slope and thermal work.

[RCSE] Got to RipSoar the MPX Lucky and the Fun One

2000-04-02 Thread GordySoar

Saturday I met up with Mad Dog Bullards and those Lump-yard slope dogs who
prowl the "Lump" on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Lots of hot ships ripping up there for being in the Boone-docks.

Trying to choose which was the 'best' sloper out there was a non stop point
of discussion among us all.

Mini Ellipse may be one of the finest all time in the 60" "sailplane" class
slopers. It is just sooo cross talented.

The Fun One is an unbelievable value! So much is done when you get it and
besides being fast and cute, it has a dizzing roll rate. The ships owner had
to tear his TX back out of my hands I was having sooo much fun.

Got to fly Mike's MPX Lucky again and jeezzz! Seems illegal to have sooo
much airplane for under $200! If you are thinking of a really great slope
ship that can really grab a thermal then come down full vertical without
worries of flutter or blow up, that Lucky is sweet. Also has a very
excellent non-sailplane type of roll rate. Rig it with Spoilerons as they
are very effective for dropping it on a spot in rotor.

Zipper's and Bandits. What can be said that can possibly describe the raw
energy retention and slippery-ness of these two ships. Sooo fast.
Certainly the Zipper is the fastest little wing out there, but that Epp
Bandit of Tom Copps is pretty close.

I flew my Miss Piggy (Freda Plane) molded F3b beast and had a ball as well as
my Synergy 5. I sure love that Synergy 5. Its T tail really looks stylish
out there in that oh-so-common Vtail swarm that now populates the slopes.

So many to chose from.if you get a MPX Lucky...you'll be lucky :-)

[RCSE] New servos showing at Toledo!

2000-04-02 Thread GordySoar

Micheal Volz will be there again this year and he may have some of his new
state of the art servos on display.

or he may not. I know he has some new ones for the Turbine guys who need
super stong, super thin but not so fast and resistant to high frequency
vibrations.

Also if you bought or own the Wing Maxx servos with that neat snap in frame,
he now has that frame with mounting lugs, similar to the Micro Maxx
servos...for simple quick install or removal with the simple 'ply-mount'
system.

Also he may have the molded, lighter, pre drilled composite replacement for
the CNC ply mounts

See you guys there!

Re: [RCSE] Toledo and LSF

2000-04-02 Thread Pat McCleave

Joe, and others:

If memory serves me right, all of my Level 1 task was done with a Craft Air
Windrifter. Level II I really moved up and went to the Craft Air Sailair.
Level III was compeleted with two different planes, all of the TD stuff was
done with an Invader MKIV kitted for a short time by a guy named Herb Smith
in the Denver area, and the my 2 hour slope flight was done at Lake Wilson
KS with my trusty old Coyote. I almost crashed with less than 5 minutes to
go while doing low inverted passes. I was getting bored so what can I say?
Level IV is still work in progress, all I have left is my cross country
flight. I had it done several years ago but lost my voucher so had to start
over. Oh well double the fun. I am plannig on trying to do my cross
country with a HLG just to make it more fun and challenging. I am in no
hurry to race to Level V but do keep that as my Ultimate goal in RC soaring,
that and maybe beating Joe or Daryl sometime. I think reaching Level V will
be easier than the latter. Well that is my LSF story and I am sticking to
it.

See Ya,

[RCSE] FYI and Questions

2000-04-02 Thread GRW

If anyone is ordering a Berg RX the price for the xtals has gone up to
$14.99. I called RC-Direct and was told that this batch would be more
expensive. I figured I would mention this since the lastest issue of
SE still shows $10. I guess this is probably because they have to have
adds in early.

My next question is has anyone used or have heard how well the FMA Versa
Charger works and does it work with NiMH? For $49.00 it has a lot of
options, but of course you sometimes get what you pay for. Thanks

I'm looking for an in-expensive stopwatch to pratice HLG tasks, I went
to the local sports store and couldn't decide which one to buy. Is
there specific options that I should look for? I found one that had 7
memory split as well as cumulative split time. Is this what I need? I
looked at a site given to me for a fairly reasonable one but couldn't
find them on there. Thanks
