Re: [RCSE] Addiction/Spot Dorker/Mantis
As far as the SPot Dorker fuse being Lite that's not all the other most important this is the Wings... I have a Brand new in the Box Spot Dorker Kevlar Wing Ver... These wings are "LITE"... each wing weights about 13.1 oz... if you have a set of wings that are the same in size go weight them and see if the compare.. The Spot Dorker is a super lite machine.. I never landed one only flew one and now wish I landed it Now the Kit is not Cheap 625.00 for the ultra lite version a bit more money than a few of the other kits out there but I think its worth it if you can get pin point accurecy on the landings I wonder why they call it the Spot Dorker must be for a reason... hopefully if I ever get mine built it will put me into the next level we can all go under every body's thermal and mooch a 10 min flight thats easy its when you have to land on time and hit the spot at the same time Its a Landing Game out there look at the Pasadena 2day results ask anyone if you make all your times and do not hit most of your landings which I did not hit over 50% myself last weekend on spot landings then you might as well say your money on the contest and go bowling or something cause you ar not Taking the Hardware Home.. for your Wall - Original Message - From: "Walter Lynch" [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: "[RCSE]" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, May 04, 2000 9:01 AM Subject: [RCSE] Addiction/Spot Dorker/Mantis Lots of talk about Addiction and Spot Dorker lately. Very light and very good planes. Saw where the SDorker fuse comes in at I think 7/8 oz. Wow, that is light. How will a light weight fuse like that hold up to seasons of repeated hard spot landings? If you have to keep repairing fuse breaks, eventually the weight starts going up. Now to plug my own plane. Take a look at the Mantis fuse- almost unbreakable. Not just glass/w some CF tow/cloth and kevlar reinforcement. The fuse is pure CF and kevlar- being a lousy pilot I many times "stuff" the thing pretty hard. I am not afraid to do this w/Mantis but may be a little leery w/lesser fuses. Not only that, but wing will rotate on a hard landing to help avoid damage. But then again, the Mantis certainly doesn't fly/and penetrate like the others- trade offs for everything I guess. Walter RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Off topic warning, sorry
I hate virus alerts, but we got one from our IS department this morning, it seems real and it is obvious who isn't reading these because those people are being infected with it. The I LOVE YOU virus is similar to the Melissa virus in that it mails itself out to everyone in your address book. This shouldn't be a problem if you simply delete the message before opening it. Re: [RCSE] Addiction/Spot Dorker/Mantis
Cmon Mike, You have to do something for a contest, spot landing is just part of it. Spot Dorker is a great model and wish I had one for SC2 type contest. How ever last weekend at the RoseBowl first and 2nd were Heras, mine is 73, and Ben's is 72. I have heard that there is a light weight version of the Hera coming in at 63. My Artemus KC flew last Friday and it is 69 ounces. The KC is the full carbon D tube for F3J, so it is not inconceivable that an AMA spot lander could come in at 63. Re: [RCSE] Vision Setup for Zagi Help!
At 10:58 PM 5/2/00 -0400, Eric Sanders wrote: Yep, I caught it... Zagi fever. The problem is I can't seem to find the correct setup for the Vision. I tried both an Airtronics 4channel and RCD 5 channel (four channels available). The closest I came was setting the Vision for 2A/1FE R, putting it into mode B, and mixing the elevator with ailerons. This got it to the point that I had elevon and aileron working but on the wrong sticks! The speed control was on the right stick and ailerons/elevons on the left stick. What am I missing here? Could someone email the correct setup for this. If you could cc to [EMAIL PROTECTED] I would greatly appreciate it. TIA Regards, Eric Sanders www.compufoil.com Eric, I didn't see anyone else respond to your post, so here's the solution. I am assuming that you have the most recent software (F3B V3.01A) in your Vision. First, move to the Config column and select the 2A/2FE R wing type. Second, scroll down and select the appropriate receiver (A type PPM 4) if you use the Airtronics 4 channel receiver mentioned above (left elevon will plug into channel #1 and right elevon into channel #3. Third, in the Main column, select "Yes" for Alter Mode, "No" for Mode B. Fourth, in the Config column, scroll down to the servo direction and make any appropriate changes (left elevon will be the first slot and the right elevon will be the fourth slot). Fifth, verify that the directions and throws are correct. Set the throws for the aileron function in the Surface menu as you would with traditional ailerons. If the elevator travel needs further adjustment than available in the Surface menu, move to the Mixer column and scroll down to Elev-LAIL Elev-RAIL and increase these values a bit more. Make sure that the values match each other to avoid elevator unbalance. Sixth, go fly! Re: [RCSE] Experience with cellular phones ...
I presume Tord's phone operates under GSM system. That maximum peak power in principle is 3X of what is in most cell phone in the US. The legal RC channel frequency is about half of what is in the US. Those are the two differences. The best way is to ground range or bench test with the cell phone turned on from time to time. The next time a cell phone in operation can be some one else, inadvertently. Dealing with the problem is better than running away from it. Dear Ken, Just a short note on the dangers of mixing mobile phones and electric flight. I had a powered Studio 'B' Avro Vulcan in my lap, powered by a Kyosho car motor, and a 8:1 Graupner gear box and a seven cell RC2000 pack. It was not running or anything, but it was armed when I decided to make a call on phone, and as soon as I had dialed the number the engine started to run at full speed! With the tx on one side of me (it was on) and the plane in my lap I never would have thought it could run like that. Happily, for this event at least, the prop collet was loose on the shaft, so I was not damaged, just scared and puzzled. The ESC was one of those ultra-safe Gordon Tarling speed controls, that you have to arm by throttling fully up and then down before they start the motor. It had been armed, but I would never have guessed that it would run when the cellular tried to contact the nearest repeater. Further testing showed the transmitter to be totally unaffected (it was a Graupner mc-15 - a close relative to the JR computer radios) but getting the cellular's antenna close to any metal part of the rx, the wiring or the pushrods set the motor off again! This with the rubber duckie antenna on the tx in place and just two feet away! So while the tx passed with flying colours the kit-built rx did not! I guess any rx would have similar problems - glad that the tx seems OK with phones ;-)! So do turn off your cellular before playing with your models. Had this been a big model with one of my Aveoxes, god knows if I've been around now! We had 28+ C last week, pretty fair for March in Sweden! Safe flying! [RCSE] Tinting Canopies
I tried Dies but they came out colored wrong. I like a deep blue clear. I found something that works grate, and it was by accident. I was painting my son RC 10 car and found that they sold colors like candy apple red or blue. This is the kind of paint that you spray on the inside of a clear plastic body. I had to try it on a canopy. The more you spayed the darker it got. I put some metal flake on the back of the canopy, and it turned out really good. A word of warning..Don't put it on too thick, it will start to draw the sides in on the canopy. The hobby stores that cater to RC cars will have the paint, and if you don't have a spray gun, you can buy it in a spray can. --- Larry Taylor --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- EarthLink: It's your Internet.
