Re: [RCSE] Servo extensions

2000-05-24 Thread Walter Lynch

Rob, good stuff about the servo connectors but you failed to mention one
must have the
eyes of a eagle, the dexterity of a surgeon, and way more patience than I
have to
crimp those tiny pins w/ that tool. I make connectors up using the same
stuff but almost always count on two attempts/two pins to get one pin
properly crimped-gets expensive
after a while. Is there anything out there that can just be soldered?

Here's a few words and pictures about making servo connectors and
extensions, with some alternatives, collected from RCSE over the years.

Re: [RCSE] Re: altimeter for sale

I found a better price than I could get them for.
You can get one here for $129.99 + shipping

I found I really can't make money in the hobby business, so I try to get people the
best deal possible, even if it is someplace else.

I waited to see if anyone would mention it, but there is only one watch that records
in 3' increments. The rest are not very accurate. Here are the specifications:

 The lightweight
  FS Altimeter Watch accurately
  measures altitude in 3' increments.
  Records rate of ascent/descent, total
vertical feet for the day/year, number of
  climbs or descents, maximum altitude
  attained. Sleek profile features jumbo
buttons for use with gloves; night vision
backlight; quick-dry neoprene band with extender for use
  over gloves; dual location setting for quick calibration;
  patented on-screen help window; user-replaceable
battery. And, of course, day, date, alarm, and time.
Waterproof to 200.' Wear your stories on your wrist. One
  size; color: silver/black.

They are $200 at the store, $159 at discount. I'm getting ready to order several
and will tag on additional units if anyone is interested.
The price will be $145 if anyone wants to get in on the deal.

 Tom

The link below should help. There is also a hand launch simulation that takes
the vertical wind profile into account. You specify basic glider character, throw
character, wind profile, and have four phases that you can set Cl (elevator) and
duration of the phase. This allows simulating a throw-pullup-coasting-roundoff sequence
of elevator input.

[RCSE] dihedral question

2000-05-24 Thread Soareyes

Hi guys,
I just finished bagging a wing for an old fuse and tail feathers that were
laying around. I intended the wing to be used for RES class, so it is
polyhedral. The trouble is that when assembled, the wing looks flat and may
not have enough polyhedral. I just used the TLAR ("that looks about right")
method to determine the poly. I'll list the specifics below. Does the wing
need more poly? If so, I can do one of two things: kick up the tip panels, or
add ailerons. Can I add enough poly just by raising the tips? Thanks in
advance!
Wing specifics:
120 inch total span, each wing half is 60 inches.
each half is triple tapered, first panel is 10 inch constant chord (24 in
long), second panel tapers to 7.75 inches (also 24 in long), third panel
tapers to 5.5 inches (12 inches long).
First panel has 3 degrees dihedral (wing rod is 6 degrees), second panel has
6 degrees of poly relative to the first panel, third panel is flat with the
second panel. I could add poly to this third panel if needed.
Thanks again for any advice,
Stan Sadorf

[RCSE] Mylar film covering.....

I have a small Electric A/C covered with mylar film.
The Clear covering over balsa frame looks way cool.
But Clear is hard to stay oriented.

Can I lightly spray paint some stripes over mylar covering?

[RCSE] MPI reciever, anyone?, Hitec feather rx, also.

2000-05-24 Thread Scobie Puchtler or Sarah Felstiner

Okay, so this Maxx Products Inc. company imports some nice litte servos,
their little MX-30's which are a very viable alternative to HS-50's, and
thinner if you like to put 'em in wings. and they distribute Hitec stuff, I
guess, too.

Now, they also import an rx, single conversion, competitor to things like
the hitec feather. 1000' range, etc., under the Maxx Products line, called
the MX6800 or something alot like that.

Anyone have experience with these?, Comments?, comparisons to the Hitec
Feather?

And how are the Hitec Feather rx's faring out in the world, after what
seemed like a bumpy start into the market? Anyone got a story on that with
some real perspective? Anyone having tons of fun with their totally
trouble-free feather rx?

Thanks,
Scobie in Seattle
