[RCSE] LED'S
Check out the local toy stores. My kids had some clear superballs that had very bright LED's that flashed when you bounced them. I dissected one and found a circuit board about the size of a penny with two LED's, three watch type batteries, and a little spring loaded switch. A little tinkering and these will be perfect for night flying. I also found some little clip on safety lights from last Halloween that are very light weight and flash very brightly. Can't wait to dissect them also. -Spud Boy The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. RE: [RCSE] REALLY STRONG wing joiners
Once my Mega-Millenium started to reach speeds in the 130mph range, the specailly built double carbon joiners started to bend significantly. I needed to find a solution and thankfully Doug's chromoly joiners are bomber. As u saw from my report on the DS speed record, the wings were hardly flexing at 176mph, and there were times it was going faster just that the radar could not read at that angle. I have now ordered joiners from Doug for my other DS toys as I know that area of concern will no longer be such a high concern. -Original Message- From: Winchdoc [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, August 22, 2001 6:30 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [RCSE] REALLY STRONG wing joiners This message is intended ONLY for those poor souls that are hopelessly addicted to that evil back side sort of flying known as DS I have built a limited number of CNC precision machined tool steel wing joiners that have been hardened to 50-52 Rc. The CF joiners for these sailplanes are pretty strong, plenty strong for most average flying conditions. They will also break in a really hard landing to save other parts of the sailplane. When CF fails, it breaks all the way with little perceived warning. You DS junkies know what I mean. Daryl Perkins and Barry Baskin have custom joiners in some of their planes. Ask them if these are any good. These steel joiners also add the extra mass you might want when DS'ing in extreme conditions. I guarantee that something else will break before these joiners fail. You may blow a spar, a stab, or whatever, and you'll pull the intact joiner from a smoking crater on the backside of Parker Mountain, but you won't break this joiner. Re: [RCSE] Re: what paint sticks to coroplast?
Well, since they use it for signs, I'd call up the local sign shop and ask what screen printing ink they use on the signs. They don't print on the coroplast, they print on sign vinyl, then stick it on the coroplast, or they cut they letters out and stick them on. You can get spray paints to stick if you sand it aggresively, but nothing will stick well, you are better off covering it with sign vinyl. How about Utracote, will that stick to coroplast? I'm getting my JW kit shortly and I would like to cover the coroplast fin. Only if you put contact cement on the fin first, you are better off covering the fin with sign vinyl or colored packing tape, I usually wipe it down with a harsh solvent like toluene first. Re: [RCSE] Re: what paint sticks to coroplast?
It's sticks okay. Spray it with 3M 77 first and use low heat. Any more then a moderate amount of heat will cause huge bubbles to form (hence the 3M77). RE: [RCSE] Re: what paint sticks to coroplast?
James, I just lightly sprayed my JW's tail with run-of-the-mill spray enamel from Home Depot. It sticks fine. When I bought my JW from Pat Bowman he cautioned against Ultracoating the fin. Pat said that with the JW's short nose moment (the CG is only ~1 7/8 back from the leading edge on the older version) that any added weight to the tail resulted in a bunch of weight having to be added up front for balance. I didn't even Ultracoat the ailerons. Instead I sprayed a couple light coats of clear lacquer and then just taped the ailerons with packing tape. My JW came out, balanced with 3 ounces of lead, to 28 ounces total, 4 ounces short of the 32 ounces that the specs say. [RCSE] Re: Supplier of powdered lead?
IMHO, the stuff you really want to look for is called Cerro-Bend. It is almost as heavy as lead and it melts at temps lower than boiling water, if memory serves. Don't have any other info. BobCERROSAFE is used in the machine and gunsmithing trades to cast impressions of areas that are hard to measure. I have been using it for decades to do chamber cast of firearms. You can buy it from Brownells, (641) 623-5401 or go to WWW.brownells.com , click on products and use their search engine to find CERROSAFE. Make sure to click on details for info on the proper use of this product. IMNSHO It looks like lead and rubs off on everything like graphite. Messy to use but useful. [RCSE] 100 Carrera Trico 2001 for sale CHEAP
This is what Gordy had to say about it, and it's all true; I bought it and I flew it a few times and I like it, but I just have too many planes, and I finally realize I should be concentrating on flying one or two a lot, not a lot a one or twotimes, so since it hardly gets any time in the air, it has to go. I payed $100 and I'll let it go for the same price + $10 for shipping (shipping would be about $37 to the US; I'll cover the rest, as Gordy did). Stefan. "This is an old plane from Carrera. Looks sort of like a Salto and is in great shape considering its many years. 2 channel, must have elevon mixing on your TX for the full flying V tails (although the original mechanical mixer that came with it will come along if you wanted to make it stock and use a simple 2 channel radio). Complete with 2 Airtronics Mini Servos and plan Just add RX and Batt and fly. I have flown it and it cores a thermal really well. Should be selling it for $200 but I am not interested in discussing its finer details, this is one of those cool deals everyone else seems to get, here's your chance. If you are into unusual scale looking oldtimers this ones for you. The first $90 + $10 shippingTakes it. Instruction Manual included with plan. Wait to talk about it and it will be gone "
