I am looking for This guy Mike who used to fly alot at the poway slope. He
used to to cut his own wings. And drink a little beer whan there too. LOL!!
If anyone knows this guy and how to get a hold of him, I would appreciate it.
If you were a local at poway, You would know who im talking about.

I've used compufoil for years. I've done the incremental upgrades too to keep up with
Eric's additions. It's done everything I
need and will do more. Get it, use it, fly on! gv

I have "nothing against" the RDS system, and it seems to be a
wonderful idea, but these discussions take on the flavor of religious
dogma with little empirical data to demonstrate
claims.
Did you get the link I sent you?  While it doesn't address RDS
specifically, it should give you the information you're looking for.

There's a paper written by Dr. Werner Würtz at
http://beadec1.ea.bs.dlr.de/Airfoils/linkage.htm.
The title is "Drag of Aileron and Flap Linkages of a Sailplane

Just thinking, if 5% reduced drag could increase speed that much,  a
16
second run would be reduced to 15.2 seconds. If drag is reduced 12% as
Bob
says, it would be reduced to 14.08 seconds. Wouldn't it be worthwhile
to
find out?

Re: [RCSE] Harley's comment on RDS

2001-11-17 Thread Bill Harris

OK... moldies are noisier than composite planes, and an RES plane can be
quieter than a full-house plane since it does not have linkage, gaps and
ailerons to flutter. Ergo, an RES "should stay up longer, cover more ground
from whatever height, launch higher, go faster, etc"?

Numbers, not dogma... :)

Re: [RCSE] RDS drag reduction, speed increase.

2001-11-17 Thread Bill Harris

Give us empirical data to show that RDS gives % reduction in drag, and this
x-% reduction in drag correlates to a y-% increase in "performance"-- speed,
sink rate, whatever.

I have "nothing against" the RDS system, and it seems to be a wonderful
idea, but these discussions take on the flavor of religious dogma with
little empirical data to demonstrate claims.

[RCSE] Flapperon Stiffening.

2001-11-17 Thread Peter Williams

 Hi Joe
How did you stiffen up the flapperons??? Did I miss an earlier post??
I went back through the digests and am curious.

I have flutter problems also.

Best Regards

Joe wrote...
Decided to provide a quick report on flight testing of my
ex flutter-bird. The 4 or so grams of weight added was
definitely worth it! The plane launches so much better,
and even gained some handling at speed due to a
reduction in aeroelastics on the flaperon. I'll have to
do some dead air times with it now that I can throw it
full power without a hint of flutter. I'll do the same routine
on a couple of other wings shortly and collect some
data. I'm curious about before/after weight, and more
importantly, torsional stiffness of the flaperons before
and after the sock is installed.
