Re: [RCSE] Heating element for wire channel burning
Thanks. Already doing that with a 5/32 rod. Works fine but looking for something else. Maybe my estimate of the size of the element was a bit much., more than what was being used. You can just torch a piece of 1/8 music wire and run it in. An eraser sized unit would make a huge hole. Tom Rick and Jill wrote: Guys, Some time ago I think there was some info given here, or maybe on a website referred to here, on a method of burning wire channels using a very small heating element (maybe the size of the eraser on the end of a pencil, one of those antique No.2 jobs we used in grade school) . I believe it was attached to the end of an arrow shaft and had the wiring running back through the shaft. Then guided like any other with holes in guide blocks to control the path and depth of burn. If anyone remembers this or has any info about this method, or a source for a similar sized heating element please let me know. Thanks, RB RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] AMA Winch vs. FAI winch BASIC DIFF
Brings to mind an experience last fall. At the September Club contest the wind was blowing 15-20 many of the guys chickened out to fly, guess they thought it was too windy. We won't mention names. I put some borrowed ballast in my Escape cause I forgot my Pat McCleave custom ballast. Duh. This is the most wind I have flown the recently new Escape in. So I step up to a Freddette winch, Ford long shaft, mono, and a positive brake. I got kicked to the right on launch, maybe I screwed up something, so I stepped on it to get some line speed to recover straight. No problem except I traveled about 100 feet to the right. As soon as I righted I hit the elevation where the wind is much stronger.I immediately let off the foot pedal because the plane had plenty of speed, tension and was climbing fast. Except the energy just kept building. It seemed like magic, a perpetual machine. The drum was not letting any line out! It looked like one of those 4 man F3J tows. I thought my wings were going to break, I have never seen Escape wings bend like that, they were elliptical. I realized I had to get off the line before my plane broke. A quick blip and I rocketed off like a bat outta hell. It seemed to zoom another 200 feet. Wow, that was an unexpected adrenalin launch. Yes. Mono + locking drum + wind = Wild launches Steve At 06:29 PM 2/14/2002 -0600, James V. [RCSE] Eraser Xtreme CDT
For those interested: I just unpacked an Erase Xtreme CDT (carbon D tube)I bought from Skip Miller at the SWC. Out of the box the parts weighed as follows: Fuse with tail and pushrods: 357.2 grams - 12.6 ounces Left Wing: 227.7 grams - 8.0 ounces Center Wing: 521.9 grams - 18.4 ounces Right Wing: 230.9 grams - 8.2 ounces Misc Parts(screws, wing joiners, etc):71.4 grams - 2.5 ounces Now, if I did the math right, thats 1409.1 grams, or 49.7 ounces before radio gear installation. Figure on 16 or so ounces for gear and nose weight, and it should fly around 66 ounces or so. Cool!! [RCSE] Stolen DLG
Attention West Coast HL flyers! The DLG shown in the photo in the upper left hand corner of my Web Page has been stolen. A Futaba 6 XA transmitter was taken at the same time. The wing is covered in Ora Cover with white main panels and red tips. The model has a Photon name on the upper left wing in blue letters outlined in red. My AMA number (45111) is on the upper right wing in matching color numbers. The stab mount is unique in that it fits over the boom and appears to be 2 posts sticking up from the boom: the stab is bolted on with 4-40 nylon bolts. This is the first model in the country with this stab mount as I just imported the mount 2 weeks ago. If this model shows up at your field, grap it and notify the authorities and me. A $100 reward will be paid for recovery of the model. Jerry Krainock http://www.netmeister.net/~jerry RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Bowman Scooter C/G question
Hello all, I cannot find the directions that came with my Bowman scooter. It is not a super scooter, but simply a scooter. I hope to fly it this weekend, however, I do not know the starting C/G location. A little help? Thanks Paul Cox Louisville, KY LSF1/LASS -"Nice landing, that won't be hard to fix..."
