[RCSE] Long needed break

2002-02-18 Thread Steve Patton

I just wanted to drop a note to let everyone know that PATTON AIRCRAFT
will be shut down for a while, and is for sale.
There are a few other projects around the home-front that I have been
neglecting, due to making PSS kits.

I will only sell PATTON AIRCRAFT to someone who I feel will continue to
produce the line with the same high quality, and service that I believe
has been there for the past 3 1/2 yrs.

My sincere thanks to all our past customers.
Please contact me directly, Serious inquiries only please.
   Thanks,Steve Patton

Re: [RCSE] soaringjunkie@hotmail.com is not the real "Soaring Junkie"

2002-02-18 Thread Soaringjunkie

Agreed on likening it to McDonalds or NES...but we're not really comparing
apples with apples are we?...my email address is "soaringjunkie@..." - I'm
_not conducting business under this name_, merly taking part in a pastime
that I enjoy greatly - I just happen to like the idea of my email address
reflecting this interest.

My suggestion to Edgar is that if he believes that he owns the exclusive
right to use "The Soaring Junkie" on the net then he should quickly register
the domain name "thesoaringjunkie.com" like any serious business venture
would and have this mail hosted...he can then be
[EMAIL PROTECTED] - nice!

As to being rude posting your note including the reply to the group...by
who's rules? Oh, hang on..._your_ rules that also say I can't use an email
address that I've been using for 3-1/2 years! Hmmm...a flick through "my
rules" state that if the thread started in this forum then any/all parts of
it belong in this forum.

Anyway, I grow tired of this nonsense...if this is the attitude around here
I'd rather spend my time elsewhere...enjoying the hobbie, discussing the
hobbie and above all - having fun!

Thermals to sensible among us and cartwheel landings to the rest!

[RCSE] For those who use Iron-On Coverings

2002-02-18 Thread rkschroeter

If you use iron-on coverings, this may be useful >>> a chart of
temperature vs. dial position for standard 170 watt covering irons.

I did a controlled mini-study after getting fed-up guessing at my
iron's temperature. I use a Tower Hobbies iron, which is
representative of others on the market (basically all are knockoffs
of the original TopFlite iron):

[RCSE] Servo Glitches

2002-02-18 Thread kevin leech
Hello, I am new to soaring and this group and usually just read the posts to learn and get ideas but could use some help now. I just finished an Art Hobby Elster 1.5M, aileron/elevator glider and there is some jittering in the right wing aileron servo.  I'm using a Hitec Focus III FM, Cirrus MRX-4 receiver, Cirrus CS-21BB's in the wings connected with a buffer/booster Y harness and 24" extensions, a Hitec HS-55 for the elevator and a 110mAh battery. Everything works fine in the house but jitters at the field.  I tried separating and twisting the right aileron servo and extension wires with no change.  Then I cut the buffer/booster out but no change.  I've tried  Hitec Feather 4 and 555 receivers with no change.  I've read online that maybe soldering in a small capacitor near the servo will work but I'm hoping there's another solution.  The other two servos function properly other than buzzing as if under load.  This also seems to be draining the battery rather quickly.  I live in a very small town with no hobby shop or any other flyers that I know of so any help anyone could provide would be appreciated. Re: [RCSE] soaringjunkie@hotmail.com is not the real "Soaring Junkie"

2002-02-18 Thread Soaringjunkie

Hmmm...perhaps he should have made this more clear. What got my heckles up
was his the "beware of someone using [EMAIL PROTECTED]" comment and
that is why I bit...I did however try and take the humorous approach.

The key thing I think is that there is no ownership entitlement to email
handles - its first in first served. Lets just pretend for a moment that my
name is "Joe Wurts" - not an impossibility by any means - now because there
just happens to be a rather famous Joe Wurts involved in Soaring (and
perhaps even on this list?), would that give me any less right to use an
email address like [EMAIL PROTECTED]?

So what I'm trying to say is I have no intention of stopping using this
email address - I've had this for 3-1/2 years and see no reason to
inconvenience my friends and family with an un-neccessary change - besides
it describes me quite aptly - I am indeed "a soaringjunkie" but admit that I
am not "The Soaring Junkie".

Actually I very rarely post on this list and you can all be assured that I
mean no mis-representation should I do so in future - as always I will sign
off all my posts as I will now...

[RCSE] Servo Jittering

2002-02-18 Thread kdleech34

Hello,
I'm new soaring and this list and mainly read the posts for help
and ideas but now I'm having troubles with a new glider.
I have just finished an Art Hobby Elster w/ 59" wingspan,
aileron/elevator glider and I'm having trouble with the right wing
aileron servo acting eratically. I'm using a Hitec Focus III FM,
110mAh battery, Cirrus MRX-4 receiver, Cirrus CS-21BB's in the wings
on 24" extensions off a buffer booster Y harness, and a Hitec HS-55
for the elevator.
Everything works fine in the house but when I get to the field
the right wing servo wigs out. I pulled the wire for that sevo out,
separated and twisted them but it still happens. I was also using a
Hitec buffer booster Y harness so I tried cutting that out and making
a simple Y harness and that only minimized the problem, it still
happens but less. Also as soon as I plug the battery in there is
constant buzzing from both aileron servos although it quits sometimes
now that I've removed the buffer booster. It has also cut my battery
time down by at least 50%.
The fuselage of this model is very small and I'm wondering if all
the wires grouped together like that could also affect the servo. It
is only the right one that is affected although all of them buzz on
occassion.
Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. I'm
in a very small town with no hobby shop and haven't found anyone else
flying.
   Thanks,
 Kevin

[RCSE] Full-flying tail configurations

2002-02-18 Thread Adam Till

Hi all,

First off - thanks for the suggestions for the tailplane airfoil, keep
em' coming. Right now I'm leaning towards the HD801, but I'll hold off
for a bit.

Next question: how to set up the full-flying elevator. The two ways that
I've done it are:

(a) single piece:
http://www.multimania.com/f3i/images/thumaid/01520514.jpg

and

(b) the traditional joiner rod method, with a pivot rod near the neutral
point and foward articulation rod.

Are there any aerodynamic advantages and disadvantages to be considered.
I like "a" for the structural strength of a single-piece elevator, but
machining the pivot would be a pain.

Thanks,
Adam Till

They are a funds transfer service. They charge the recpient
a fee. When the transfer is from a credit card, they charge
a percentage of the transfer. Personal accounts are limited
in the amount they can receive. They operate only in U.S.
funds (they charge a conversion fee for international users).

They just went public the other day (I heard the raised about
$70 million in the IPO).

Most pilots could have broke the winch line, (wet), or ran out the retriever
