[RCSE] Spring Fling
Sacramento Valley Soaring Society's Spring Fling was a tremendous success. Two outstanding days of flying were the hallmark of the Second Leg of The Western States Triad. Thanks to all who attended. The contest scores are posted on the club web site. www.svss.org
[RCSE] Dynaflite Bird of Time ARF
How does the 117 inch, Dynaflite ARF Bird of Time fly? I'm not looking for contest performance, I just like the way it looks. Hope it isn't a dog because I just ordered one. S Gibson
Re: [RCSE] V tail differential
Take a mixer and mix rudder into elevator. You just need to get the signs of the percentage the correct amount in left and right directions. The mix curve looks like a V with 0 in the middle and increasing the amount of down (or up) in both directions. The other option is to set the maximum travels of the surfaces to that they move more in one direction than the other. RE: [RCSE] Best vehicle for RC transport
I'm looking at trading my 95 Dodge Grand Caravan in on a Nissan Murano - it's part-time 4WD, great gas mileage, 250HP and over 6 feet with the back seats folded down. Nice handling, comfortable and lots of neat options too. Not cheap though. I am interested in the group's comments as to what the ideal vehicle for RC soaring might be (other than a black Corvette... Bacus). I've seen a lot of Astro Vans, and really like my Toyota Camry Wagon, but they stopped making them. The Volvo is the only wagon I found that was comparable in interior room. I have some scale fuses 8' long and wing panels to 14 feet. But that would be flown on rare occasions and not for normal everyday use. Most of the time I would be taking only 5 or six planes 72 max wing panel length. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Extreme DS
Doug Reel and Kyle Paulson both joined the 190mph+ DS club at Vincent today. They were flying two new 2meter molded DS Extremes, and recording speeds with a radar gun. They both recorded top speeds of 192,andDoug was "cruising" in the high 180's while talking about the servos etc. and the 100" exxtreme he has on order. They were flying unballasted at a 22 oz wing loading and the wind was 20 mph. They found a line that produced much higher speeds, but could not get the radar gun to record it, so they were obliged to fly closer and slower, but still managed repeated high 180's and low 190's to 192. Doug says that the Extreme is the most solid feeling plane he has ever flown DS with, and that it was "easy." Neither plane suffered any damage from the speed session, although one flap horn became loosened on one plane. These planes should be good for a lot more, just use good servos and linkages! Considering that conditions were nothing special, when they can get a better angle or a better radar gun 200 mph and more should soon become routine. I'm very happy for Brian, since he has really busted his butt on this project, and has come up with a plane that is just "born" to do this. ...Of course with a lot of help from Joe Wurts, and Brian is the first to credit Joe's airfoils and planforms. They are the best. The 100" CNC version should be insane... John Roe McComposites website: http://www.mccomposites.com Standard disclaimer: I don't get nuthin' from Brian/McComposites. Do you Yahoo!? Re: [RCSE] SOAR Fredrickson Memorial Contest
The 2003 SOAR Fred Fredrickson Memorial is History. All participants seemed very happy with the Weather, Food, Challenging air, and competitive spirit of the group. Positions were constantly changing throughout the day. Tom Kallevang won overall with an impressive back to back win. Martin Doney from Middle of nowhere Michigan scored a second place on Sunday, congratulations to Martin! And some of the other good pilots that often show up near the top; Mike Remus, a 2nd place, Barry Anderson 3rd place TWICE! Jack Strother and David McCarthy, 4th places Karl Miller and Rich Burnoski, 5th place winners. See complete results at http://www.SOARchicago.com. RE: [RCSE] potential frequency problems
I was recently hit with a CB rig on Ch 30. I was too close to a big rig and apparently got swamped by him. Big rigs are known to regularly use 100+ watt linears to Boost their 27 Mh CBs' Our field in San Diego ran several tests and found that pagers on ch 28-29, 23-24, 11-12, 50-51, 54-55. For instance, I have heard that CB radios can cause a problem on some of the lower R/C channels. Is this true ? Thanks, Steve G
