Re: [RCSE] Fwd: [ciam-info-l] Winners - 4th FAI World Aeromodelling Championship F3J
This was a contest... It's amazing how exhausted one can get towards the end of an event like this. Look for great stories from folks after they have recouperated. Here are some I believe worth commenting on as time permits: - weather (the awesome storm cell that spawned a tornado) - flying conditions (pilots/spotters were more than a little perplexed at the hourly changes) - Australian woes/antics (tree landings, free flight experiment, catastrophic damage, hospital stays, makeshift boating, speedos(!), the front sidewalk at the lodge, etc). - lost aircraft (wind and thermals, and remaining with lift until you can't see your aircraft or make it back - we are still searching for an Esprit) - Camaraderie (this requires no explanation, - one could go on and on and on. Well maybe we should explain Carl grin). - Michelle Goodrum from RSA (only female pilot - her team woes locating lost aircraft during transit with happy ending. Probably the longest travel log to get to Red Deer. Check out Chris's scores). - Line length (Joe's measured 10 meters short early on - our Canadain team measured(!) just under a foot after 3rd fly-off) - Tow equipment/Technique (ran the gammot) - rules (funny how folks complain, only to agree enmass that the current set are fine) -Team Turkey (last place in Finland, second here in Canada) -Japanese DLG's (incredible - a mear 76g AUW with excellent height from launch) - juniors and their performance (some potent pilots I assure you). -how to get more folks doing what we just did for 8 days straight... Re: [RCSE] F3J 2004 Reporting
Thanks to Bill and Simon for finally making mention of the results in the W.C. F3J. I seem to recall many, many posts of congratulations after the last W.C's when Team USA featured strongly. Strangely quiet this time around. Seems it was a hard fought contest, with many tales of woe, and if only's, but an excellent result all round. In Australia, we do not have an F3J competition round, so the result is even more satisfying. Congrats to David Hobby, the new Australian World Champion, and the entire team and supporters. Well done. Re: [RCSE] F3J 2004 Reporting
Klaus, Of course there is going to be more posts when your team wins, and a high percentage of readers here are from the USA. Here is a congratulations to David Hobby from myself, I am a big F3J fan and it is hard to believe his first F3J tows were in Canada. I love this picture... http://www.f3x.no/index2.htm Why, because he has his secret weapon in his hand, Roo! Roo spent the last two years traveling across the USA watching, learning and drinking beer with all of our best pilots. He was seen in the Rockies practicing F3J with the US F3J TM and LSF President at the time: http://www.jimbacus.net/soaring/f3jrock03/pages/DSC01048.htm He was seen at the 2003 U.S. Nationals inspecting the official scoring computer: http://www.jimbacus.net/soaring/nats2003/2m/pages/DSC01268.htm There are other pictures of Roo's travels across the states, we need to dig them up. 8-) Congratulations again to David and team Australia! P.S. Did you remember to pack Roo and take him home? 8-) Jim At 05:02 PM 8/11/2004, Klaus Weiss wrote: Thanks to Bill and Simon for finally making mention of the results in the W.C. F3J. [RCSE] Status of Potential Project
At the good advice of many, the project, which involved producing a PDF file of all of Dave Thornburg's articles from the old "Model Builder" magazine, is on hold until official permission has been received from both the publisher, Bill Northrop, and the author Dave Thornburg. Thanks for the many offers of assistance and advice. I'll let the forum know how this works out. Jim Deck
