[RCSE] Servo reversing

2005-06-07 Thread elcoba
Hello all,
Does anyone remember how to reverse a servo where you do not have the
facility on the Tx. It has been so long since I last did this that I
have totally forgotten. I do remember that two of the wires on the pot
are to be interchanged, but which two?. the servo in question has a
blue in the centre and a white and brown on each side. I also vaguely
remember the pot has to be recentered.
Can someone please help?
Thanks
Charles

The wires on the sides need to be swapped. The center wire (the wiper) should
stay where it is. If you have an ohmmeter you can make sure you've identified
the correct wires by ensuring that the resistance between them doesn't change
significantly as you rotate the potentiometer. If the resistance goes up and
down then one of those wires is the wiper.

The two connections to the motor have to be swapped as well.

Looked like fun.

How does one make a MOV play at twice the size? A little small at 1280x1024.

WOW.

Dudes, this was too cool. Just got back from two solid days of
flying. I have a lot of photos and video, but I wanted to make a post
this evening while I am fresh back from the event.

TK and I arrived Fri. afternoon driving in from Chicago and there were A
LOT of people there. I registered as pilot 50 at that time, and there
were more after me. Busy flight line was the first thing that struck
me, two tugs working hard and a nice line of sailplanes queued up for a
tow. After registering and checking out the cool looking event T shirt
and hat that was in the registration bag, I went on to socializing a bit
in the pits. But the constant series of tows was just enticing me to
fly. I built my DG 800s and walked it out to the flight line, Capn'
Jack was all too eager to help me with another set of eyes. I got an
excellent tow, Peter Goldsmith towed me up with his cub and let him take
me up to clouds. I told him I was off, he replies... great Jim, I
think my wings are freezing over 8-) Needless to say I flew that
flight for awhile! 8-)

I landed and Cliff Bryan was pulling his new ASH-26 out, so I followed
him out to the flight line. I ended up being his second set of eyes,
and Cliff got that bad boy hooked up and skied out. After flying around
for a long period of time, he asked me if I wanted to try. 8-) What a
wonderful model, Cliff wasn't in a rush for it back, but he did check
the battery levels twice while I was flying, so it must have been a
pretty long flight. Such a sweet model.

Skip Miller was just pounding the cross country course all day long, I
think he went over 26 miles.

Then I wander back to the pits, see Capn' Jack over at the tents and he
asks if I want to fly the Ventus 2AX. By this time the air at about
3:30-4pm is about the best its been all day, and I am like SURE! I'LL
FLY IT. Jack let me fly it up the tug and I flew it for a long time,
40 minutes or longer, and then the ultimate TX who-ore himself, McCarthy
couldn't take it any longer so he took the sticks, and he flew it for
another 40 mins. Finally I pried his fingers from the pizza box and I
got it back for some more, and then TK wandered by and he took it for a
long flight, and then finally back to Jack, the last sailplane to land
on Fri. I forgot the final launch count for the day, but the tugs went
through 10 gallons of gas.

Of course then all the electric fun fly stuff came out... and then over
to a BBQ at John Diniz house for excellent food, drink, electric heli
flying in the driveway, and John did a small jam session in his basement
later while McCarthy tried to finish building the scale model he didn't
quite get flying earlier in the day. Just more fun!

Today was a windier, with more people in attendance, but less of the
flying at anyone time. Only one tug worked the flight line
constantly. I flew once in the morning when the wind was calmer, but
decided to help work the flight line and snap pictures and video in
between the chores. Paul Siegel and Steve Siebenaler flew over from
Ohio in Paul's Super Cub to check out the action and really put in a
nice landing on the grass strip. Flying continued non-stop all day
long. Later in the day there was a raffle for 1:1 scale glider rides,
and although I didn't win one, I have never been up in a glider so I
bought a ride. What a HOOT! So I got to sit in the front seat of 2-33,
did an aerotow, and even got to fly it awhile. Shot a lot of video up
there, and got some of flying site from above, with little sailplanes
and tugs flying beneath us.

Now that tops off a great couple of days! 8-) Don't miss this event
next year, apparently it has really grown, now in its 3rd year. This is
my first, and I really regret missing the first two.

Pix and video tomorrow.

[RCSE] Silent Auction in conjunction with Polecat Challenge

2005-06-07 Thread RCsoarnut
Dudes and Dudettes

The Polecat Challenge is shaping up to be a dandy this year. Sheldon from Ynt Udesign has made it extra special by making this dandy offer.

Sheldon at YNT Udesign has provided another Alti-2 with a very special purpose. This Alti-2 will be sold by silent auction. Bids may be submitted directly to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] minimum bid is $100. This is a $150 peice of equipment and is donated for the auction by Sheldon with 100% of the proceeds going to the "turnaround troll" fund for the LSF/AMA Soaring NATS. For those of you that are not familiar with the NATS format, the winch lines are shagged by kids who work from very early in the morning till competition is over every day, out in the Indiana sun and heat which can be brutal. These kids get paid a very few dollars and lunch from donations by competitors without complaint, Both my boys have done this job and Sheldon trys his darndest to keep these guys and girls happy. This year he'd like to do something special for them like rent them some play time on the slick track one evening. Guys, this is a great idea and the kids deserve it. I've been in Muncie when the sun is beating down and I'm hiding in the shade but the rounds tick off like clockwork due in large part to the hard work of these kids. Matter of fact, if someone has the gumption to bid this critter to $200, I'll throw in a $100 gift certificate to Polecat Aero!!! Now if it goes over $200 your bidding on $250 worth of stuff!! REMEMBER, every penny will go to the kids, not even shipping will be taken out! Support your local "turnaround troll" Internet bidding will end at noon saturday june 18th and just before the raffle at the contest on sunday

[RCSE] Lex from Studio 'B' R/C seeks old friends...

2005-06-07 Thread support
Greetings!

Many years ago, (well, maybe 6 or so) I used
to post here regularly, as I was in the
sailplane business. As is the case in this
weird little hobby, customers soon became
acquaintances, and acquaintances became
friends.

Since we sold Studio 'B' and moved from Hawaii,
(and then later moved from California,) we've
lost touch with a lot of our friends.

If any of you are out there, and have a moment,
it'd be great to hear from you, and know that you're
doing well. I haven't been flying much in the
past years, but am just dusting off the old
Stylus and some of the birds hanging on my garage
wall, and hope to get back in the air soon.

Thanks for the bandwidth, and my apologies to
the rest of you who had to deal with this post.

Best of lift,

[RCSE] Rx's

2005-06-07 Thread Cheryl Bill

Greetings!

Two quick questions:

Any opinions pro or con on the Quantum 8 receiver from FMA Direct??

What's the latest in utterly reliable receiver technology out there
for those Rx's that will self-calibrate to the shift and fequency of
a Tx's output signal, ala Seeker II.

I'm looking for a new Rx or two.

Thanks,

[RCSE] FS: Carbon New Sting F3B / F3F

2005-06-07 Thread Adrian Kinimaka
Excellent condition w/Hoopes servo harness, a 5-cell 1700 Nimh
battery pack, and JR digitals (DS168/368)throughout. This vee-tailed
model sports an HN354 airfoil and spans 118. The all carbon layup
gives it an empty flying weight of 85oz. with two fuselage ballast
tubes to up the loading if needed. The color scheme is yellow with
red blended wingtips, red bottoms. It has very littly flying time on
the airframe and no hanger rash, dings or scratches to speak of.

A description and links to a review can be found at www.f3x.com and
pictures will be available for serious inquiries. I am asking $1300
shipped to USA destinations only. Thanks!

RE: [RCSE] Rx's

2005-06-07 Thread Frank Slaughter
I've used about a billion Quantum 8s with never a hiccup, for what
that's worth. My eyesight doesn't appear to be up to RCSE standards,
however, so I doubt I've flown at the kind of range that many others
here do.

The Sombra Shadow 3 (available at http://www.kennedycomposites.com)
seems to be the latest in programmable-frequency receivers. I have some
limited experience with one and so far it seems solid.

different types or makes too?

At least for the D60, standard Volz arms fit.

RE: [RCSE] JR Aerotow prompts a question

2005-06-07 Thread John Derstine
Another biased opinion, aren't they all?

Clarification.
The JR aerotow is not just a sponsored event by JR, as in donating
gifts prizes, and support. It is an entirely funded, planned, and
organized event fully staffed by JR employees, team flyers, and
volunteer friends of JR. Peter and Caroline Goldsmith need to be
credited with the enlisting of Horizon hobbies considerable wherewithal
to produce this premier program. It is their love of scale soaring which
drives the event, coupled of course with Horizons desire to product
placement, promotion, and advertising, which is what horizon gets in
return for their considerable backing and support, It would be nice if
other manufacturers would support the soaring segment as does
JR/Horizon, but they don't to date. It is intelligent marketing to a
fast growing segment. On the field with planes, support, and expertise
one on one with the participants. Listening to comments and customer
needs and desires; Everyone wins.

JR/Horizon has raised it's profile to the soaring community in recent
years, and this is good. JR also sponsors some soaring events around
the
country. Most notably in their own back yard (Midwest). Most
significant
to me, they have tailored their products specifically to soaring
pilots.
Oh, and those pictures filled with red JR polo shirts don't hurt
either.
;) Finally, there are folks who post about these events to this list.

[RCSE] AMA sent me a DVD

2005-06-07 Thread Bob Goldsmith
I'm happy that some of you don't mind spending $10 on un-requested junk,
but I refuse to be pressured into it. The AMA has slipped several notches
in my estimation of their ability to provide good service to their members
and to value their membership. They accepted a win/win program from a
marketing company without considering their membership’s opinions of such
schemes.

This whole thing is created by a sleazy marketing company who sold some AMA
marketing person of questionable value on AMA will spend no money and
expend no effort on this program. Give us your mailing list (a privacy
violation in my mind) and we will run the whole cheesy operation. For each
DVD sold to one of your members you will get $1, we take the other $9 for
program expenses and profit. How can you lose? (The dollar values are
mine… I'm sure the actual arrangement is very close.)

I happened to have been at home when the package was delivered and I
attempted to refuse delivery, but was told by the postal worker that I
couldn't because of the mail class used for the delivery. (Part of the
sleazy marketing plan?)

The package sits in my study unopened. I have received at least two
separate letters telling me to pay up or return it, a chore I didn't need
to add to my list.

Today with the receipt of the second letter, I called the customer
service number included and confirmed I was dealing with the sleazy
vendor, not the AMA. I was admittedly obnoxious ... but I was allowed to
execute the third option not mentioned in their letters. My name was
dropped from their mailing list and I will receive no more future
offerings.

Only time will tell.

2005-06-07 Thread Jerry Miller

Bob,
Don't feel bad about being obnoxious about something like this. I very
much agree with your views about this, I got one, looked at it, re packed
it and sent it back. If in fact the 'customer service' was sleazy and not
the AMA, I hereby demand the AMA recover that mailing list they put out or
for all the years I have been a member, I'll end it.
My 2 1/2 cents worth. (Note the above Cc: line, I am letting my reps know
my feelings.)

These kids get paid a very few dollars and
lunch from donations by competitors without complaint, Both my boys have done this job and Sheldon trys his darndest to keep these guys and girls happy. Re: [RCSE] AMA sent me a DVD

2005-06-07 Thread MSu1049321

Don't assume without proof that AMA sold the list itself to this company.
They are smarter than that. Typically, I think the way it works is the mail
merging and labeling and shipping happens at AMA, it has to, otherwise,
there's
little to stop the marketing guys with the video from re-selling the list to
others or re-using it themselves, and then AMA would only get to sell or rent
the list information once. That would be REALLY stupid, criminally stupid. By
holding the list to themselves, they ensure they retain it's value for
re-selling over and over. If they ARE just handing over a CD ROM of addresses
to
anybody who pays for it, the management need to be severely censured for bad
management practices. So you don't like the DVD, it's your right not to pay for
anything you didn't ask for. I think if you look thru your membership fine
print, you can specify someplace that you opt out of any such lists for similar
future projects.

I don't blame the Academy for seeking revenue enhancements other than across
the board dues increases. Those are never popular, yet more than ever modelers
need the Academy for it's help in keeping and getting fields and permissions
in a world where the free space grows tighter every year. And we need their
good offices lobbying for our interests for spectrum space as well, it's
always under threat from more commercial interests. All that DOES take
money,
believe it or not. Voluntary contributions like this DVD idea may help defray
costs, if they are executed properly. Whether that is the case here is not
something I care to debate, not having a dog in that particular fight and not
having seen the video in question. I will say I have a bunch of their old
videos
from the 80's and 90's that we used in club outreach and public mall show
efforts and they were quality product for their era.

If you recieve something in the mail that you didn't order, you are under
NO obligation to return it or pay for it, just use their self addressed

to insert a thank you note, so they have to pay for the return postage of
