With The Multiplex evo and 4000 radios, all channels are assignable no
matter what receiver.
With most radios, you just move the plugs to the appropriate channels on the
receiver.

You are certainly right about the fact that we do have some of the not
great weather, which is why I put (relatively speaking) behind the great
weather statement. So here is a clue direct from the weatherman...San Diego
does have some hot and humid days, with an (very) occasional thunderstorm in
the months of late July and August. And it has a rainy season during the
first three months of the year. Hey, Michael...365 days of the same weather
would be like being in Seattle:) P.S. We love those guys from the SASS
group. They are our most dedicated group from outside California.

So here is a clue of when to come to San Diego...the first full weekend in
June. Oh! And while you are here, bring a HLG and have a great time
competing in the IHLGF -- the most fun and flying time you can have in R/C
Soaring.

One other thing Ron. You do a good job of promoting the event.

And the Nats suffers from just the opposite on the weather. There were
many years when soaring was stuck in the last week of July. By the last
week in July, Muncie is usually hot and humid.

Of course, every time I have been to San Diego, I have managed to get
some of the not great weather. It's just not right to get hot and humid
and thunderstorms in San Diego.

Ron Scharck wrote:

It really isn't fair to compare the NATS HLG event to the IHLGF. They are
two entirely different cats. I use to attend the NATS on a regular basis,
competing in most of the events, and I loved every single one of them. The
LSF guys do a great job (in cooperation with AMA) of putting on a host of
soaring events, most of which are very demanding from a personnel
standpoint; and they only have a week to in which to cram all those
events.
I know that I am not telling you, or anyone else who reads this and has
actually been to the Soaring NATS, anything new.

In real estate, something I have a passing knowledge of, the three key
words
are: LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! The IHLGF has that in spades. When
someone plans to come to the IHLGF, they can be assured of four things
which
few other locations can boast...and they all have to do with being located
in Southern California: 1. Great weather, relatively speaking; 2. Great
flying conditions (if you don't mind a dirt field); 3. A large contingent
of
very talented pilots; and, 4. One of the top tourist destinations in the
world. In all of the years (12) the IHLGF has been held, there has only
been
two delays of starting the contest on time. Both had to do with an early
morning misting. There has always been 6 rounds flown on Saturday and
seven
(including the fly-offs) rounds flown on Sunday.

Those are the basic reasons why the IHLGF has been able to be as
successful
as it has been. Just the dumb luck of being in the right place at the
right
 time!

Re: [RCSE] Contest Cosmo WAS: JR Aero tow Reply

2005-06-10 Thread tomkiesling
Steve,

In my opinion the low attendance for the NATS HL is not because
of location. It is mostly because it is a one day event.

HL is quite a bit different than the other soaring classes in that
it does not have as much cross over. Most people in this country
are resource limited. They have a limited amount of time or money
to devote to RC soaring. So, they have to pick one event and for
many it is HL.

For example, in the ESL's HL division this year I expect there to
be upwards of 50 participants. Of those 50, I estimate that 30 or
more are primarily focused on HL. Some will come from as far away as
Canada, Florida, and Kentucky to participate. All of the HL
contests in the ESL are 2 days which makes it worth the trip.

I believe the same trend is true in other parts of the country.
I know that there is a group in the North West that only flies HL
(where DLG started).

So, for these HL dedicated pilots, it is not worth it for them
to travel to the NATS for a one day event. I know that if HL was
all I flew, I certainly would not drive 7 hours for a one day
contest. I would gladly drive the 7 hours for a well run two day
contest (after all, I recently got back from flying across the
country for a two day HL contest). From what I have observed at
HL contests I believe that other HL competitors would make the same
judgment.

It is unfortunate that the LSF has elected to only have a one day
HL event at the NATS. I estimate that if it was two day event,
there would be on the order of at least 50 entrants. The LSF
would benefit from the increased revenue. There would possibly
be the added benefit of generating interest in HL fliers with the
other soaring disciplines. I can easily picture some of the HL
pilots sticking around to watch F3J and getting hooked. After all
in this country there are not many opportunities to see an F3J event.

That was one aspect I really enjoyed about the old NATS format
(not that I think we should go back - the LSF format is s much
better with regards to soaring) - seeing all the other modeling
disciplines. CL combat was my favorite. . .

For what its worth

Tom

[RCSE] RE: RCSE] Soprano Feedback

2005-06-10 Thread Regis White
Jim, you really need feedback from someone whom has logged time on both.
I have not. I did buy Mark Miller’s “prototype” Soprano. I only have
a few launches on it but understand why the rudder was increased on
current offerings. Since I have seen no better responses I offer the
following thoughts - mainly for those with out a lot of experience.
Without any good support for my thoughts – FWIW J - I think if you have
full house experience, you will find the Soprano both a good floater and
penetrator. I suspect the AVA my be a better floater (lighter) but may
not penetrate as will as the Soprano (just my guess). For a flyer not
experienced with modern high performance soarers, the Ava (or Topaz) may
be the choice. That should not be seen as criticism of the Soprano but
a suggestion that it flys like a modern high performance ship. If you
are new to this sport (especially if you have limited funds) skip
expensive planes like the Soprano and Ava (untill you have wiped out a
few cheaper planes – they are available). Not because they would be
more difficult to learn on; because things do happen (and will) – ask
Gordy. The only criticism I have is not with the planes (and certainly
not with Kennedy or Miller) but with the designer/makers that do not
make parts that are interchangeable. Let me explain: After receiving
the Soprano and admiring it, I heard about the Trio and Piper
http://www.isthmusmodels.com/ and thought I could buy one of them and
be able to swap wings with the Soprano. Sorry – too logical! Now
before any one takes this too seriously (and takes me to task),
understand these thoughts are just that – not fighting words. The
wonderful thing about this sport is all the choices - and they are
mostly all good. Regis

Ok, so who's flying a Soprano out there? Let's hear some feedback! I
would like a big RES plane and am trying to decide between Soprano and
AVA.

Cheers - Jim Laurel

I also installed a voltmeter on mine, which is great for a quick indication

solenoid failure warning system. Works great.

Ok, models usually fly before the full size verison, but if I remember
correctly, MPX didn't come out with the model until the mid nineties. Could
it be you are thinking of an LS-3? I had one of those, wingspan was 3.24m
which is bigger than the LS-7.

Re: [RCSE] Assembly instructions for the Multiplex LS-7 sailplane

2005-06-10 Thread Simon Van Leeuwen
The LS-3 was released in the early eighties (the catalog I have is dated
'83), and was one of the best flying scale-jobs back then. It was the
first ship I aero-towed. I bought it from a nice chap who was the MPX
dealer in Arizona if memory serves. I wish I could remember his name...

That aircraft brought me many many hours of enjoyment...

Ok, models usually fly before the full size verison, but if I remember
correctly, MPX didn't come out with the model until the mid nineties.
Could it be you are thinking of an LS-3? I had one of those, wingspan
was 3.24m which is bigger than the LS-7.

Wow, it's been a long time since I last say a Multiplex LS-7. When I
first started flying back in the mid eighties, I remember one of the
original MISO club members flying one of those bad boys. At that time
that
plane was high tech! Good luck and hope you find the instructions you
need.

Hello all.

Does anyone have the assembly instructions for the Multiplex LS-7
sailplane?

RE: [RCSE] Re: Winches

2005-06-10 Thread dahearn-RCSE7576

Ditto's from Dallas.

I have Tim's Kit with the Injoy 6V motor and associated parts. All I
needed was an Optima battery and a foot switch. Had the thing together
in a few hours.

I'm also a fan of the turn around.

This was my first winch and I'm pleased with my investment!

Tom,
I will add my endorsement of the Tim McCann winch kit. I highly
recommend
ordering the wiring kit, motor, switches and other stuff from Tom
Bianchi at

Injoy Line Coursing. With Tom's wiring kit, my son and I were able to
assemble the winch in just an evening!

Here's the full wiring package with switch, solenoids, etc.

I also installed a voltmeter on mine, which is great for a quick
indication

of battery condition. I also installed Cal Posthuma's LED with sound
solenoid failure warning system. Works great.

Thanks to all who responded on the winches. Looks like the superskeg
winch
that I have already been in contact with is the best value for
purchasing 2

or more.

Any ideas on good material for scale decals from the color inkjet
printer?

Hi Tom, I use two of Tim McCann's winches here now for about 4 years,
with

no problems what so ever. I built them from his kits easy. SUPER stuff.

Re: [RCSE] Contest Cosmo WAS: JR Aero tow Reply

2005-06-10 Thread Michael Lachowski
Actually what I wanted to do was go to the JR Aero tow. I had the joy
of being on Jury Duty the past two weeks. Fortunately I had vacation
plans for the Nats and F3j TS so when they asked if there would be any
hardship on serving on a case that was expected to run well into August,
4 days a week, soaring saved the day!

Hopefully I'll make the Aerotow next year. I have the 1:2.9 Foka that I
just don't get enough flying on and a 1:3 Salto and 1:4 B4 that also
need some flying time.
