[RCSE] Foam

2005-10-05 Thread Andrew Famiglietti

Whenever I need to know I contact the most knowledgeable
...You guys.

Perhaps you can help again.A friend (not on this exchange)
asked where he could get a certain kind of foam. He didn't know the name
of it and could only describe it to me.

It has a rubbery course texture to it and when compressed and
released itreturns toits original shape. Sometimes it's in boxes
supporting computers, or other electronic items. He has seen it andsays
itsblue in color.
What he wants to know is where he can get a chunk of it
approx. 10" thick.
He would also like to know how to cut it to
shape.

 Andrew

Sounds like your friend is looking for EPP foam. I too would like to know of a good source for this foam.

I seem to recall that he
used some sort of cable band saw to cut it. I got the impression that
this
was a foam that you did not want to cut with a hot wire. Perhaps the
fumes

were the issue.

Yep, I remember that too. It was said that the fumes were toxic.

Re: [RCSE] Foam

2005-10-05 Thread junk1

I somehow missed part of this thread, are we talking about
EPP, EPE or the nerf type stuff that the Geek was made from
It was my understanding that the nerf type stuff was highly toxic
when burnt and had to be cut with an abrasive wire. (like a band saw)
That was a cool plane though..
I don't know of any company that molds EPP in a 10 thick block.
4.5 is the max I have seen. It can be glued with contact cement
and the hot wire will go right through the glue joint.

Hi Kent
I recently switched from Batteries America to cheapbatterypacks.com on the
recommendation of a very active experienced(particularly in electrics!)
club member-Lenny Keer whom I'm sure many of you know!
I have only used them twice so far however, there service is excellent (even
a custom pack only took 4 days), their prices low and their Gold Peak
cells/batteries (at least the NiMH) are the best I have used so far
particularly for sustained high power output!

Kent,
Here are my two best sources for batteries. Neither of these sources are
the cheapest, but they offer the best quality workmanship and customer
service in my experience.

1) For TX and RX packs, talk to Steve Anthony, owner of NoBS Batteries.
He is super helpful and will make up custom packs to your specs. There IS a
difference in pack quality and Steve's are among the very best.

2) For RX and motor packs, I often go to Steve and Sarah Hill at Robotic
Power Solutions. They are very nice people and Steve will make up anything
you want. The quality of his pack construction is excellent. Their
customer service is outstanding.

[RCSE] Mystery Ship main wing rod

2005-10-05 Thread Vince Herman
I recently purchased a used Mystery Ship. No main
wing rod. The instructions list a 5/16 X 13 and a
half inch hardened steel main wing rod.
Does anyone have one, possible from a Mystery Ship
that is torn up? I could pay a reasonable price plus
shipping.
Or, does anyone know where I could get something
similar?
Thanks,
Vince

Mike,
Having replied to a post that showed concerns about only one company, I'm
surprised that you were confused about what company I was referring to. Please
send me a list of the other companies you thought I might have meant, and I'll
pick out which one I meant for you.

That's a rather odd message, considering that I specifically acknowledged
that you were probably talking about Batteries America.

By the way, there's something different about your email headers that you
might want to know about. Most of the follow-up posts here have either an
In-Reply-To: or a References: header, but your posts have neither. For some
email clients this can cause your follow-up messages to appear all by
themselves, which is what happened in my case. On my email program, I had to
reluctantly activate enable threading by subject to get your messages to
appear along with the rest of their respective threads.

I should also add that many here have complained that they don't always
receive all of the RCSE messages. That's another reason why it's good
practice to always quote the text you're replying to, and to never assume
that your readers will see on their screens the same list of posts in the
same order that you see on yours. It might work okay on web-based forums like
RCGroups.com, but you can't depend on it here.

Mike

RE: [RCSE] Batteries??

2005-10-05 Thread Jim Laurel

Glenn,

Have you really had good experiences with
them? Ive placed two orders. The first order, for some Lipoly packs
that puffed for no apparent reason. Actually, one puffed before I ever even
hooked up a connector, just sitting in a box!

The second order was for some custom
shaped NiMh RX packs. I drew up a Visio diagram showing the configuration,
where I wanted the wire to exit, how I wanted the strain relief done. I got
packs with no strain relief, the wire coming out of the wrong end of the pack,
and a really sloppy shrinkwrap job. When I called them about it, they said to
send them back and this time to please provide a diagram. Go figure.

Never ordered from them again
