[RCSE] ECHLGF Friday report

2005-10-21 Thread Oleg Golovidov

Friday report

What a great day we had today. A bunch of people showed up despite some
very low clouds and even rain to the north of the area. The weather
improved throughout the day and by the afternoon we had some areas of
blue sky and later the sun came out and it the sky opened up.

The clinic went quite well. We had some first time contestants and some
spectators who came just to see the clinic and enjoy the "show" during
the weekend! I did some talking during the seminar and Phil Barnes did a
lot of "show and tell" which was really good and everybody told me they
liked the seminar and even experienced people discovered some new tricks
and techniques.

After the clinic we ran 3 rounds of practice contest with the same tasks
as we will be flying tomorrow. 12 pilots participated! The thermals were
difficult at times, not many wide big thermals. Most of the time we had
to work hard to stay in small thermals, but still 2-3 minute tasks were
doable. Most of the scores were above 800 even for beginners.

Later the air became colder and the thermals even more difficiult to
stay in. After the 3 practice rounds we did another hour or more of "all
up last down" flying with 2 min max. We started with just 2 people (me
and Phil) and then about 5-8 other pilots joined in. I bailed after 5pm
and the rest of the crowd kept going I think until 6pm or longer.

Tomorrow is the start of the official contest. Unfortunately the
forecast is 50% chance of rain. We are all hoping for the best.

Oleg.

2005-10-21 Thread Ben Diss
I lost my first plane, back in '79 to a Kraft servo with four leads.
One of the four chafed away and down came the plane. Ah, those were
the days.

The radios are not legal anymore although for a while, you could get new
legal RF decks, not cheap. These old Krafts lack a ton of features
standard on newer radios - reversing, travel volume, expo, etc. etc.
They are rugged but heavy and drifty and the batteries would all have to
be soldered and replaced.

Found a box of Kraft radio gear packed away years ago in one of my
military

any
of the servo's (11's, 12,s, 14's and a couple of micro's I don't have
a clue

what model # is) compatible with a plug change or should I just put the
whole mess up for grabs in a F/S forum or out on Ebay? I don't have an
interest in upgrading the TX or RX's or any desire to operate as is on

dark side". Thanks, Ken

Ken -

I'm old enough (and have flown toy planes long enough) that I should know
this...but I forgot.

How many wires go to the servos? If it's 3 then you can still use them. If
it's 5 then you need to retire them. Even if the answer is 3 then you wouldn't
want to use them for the elevator on your Supra or Icon. If you have an Oly
99 or Genital Lady then they would be WAY COOL.

Darwin,  thanks for the reply.
All of these servo's have 3 wires (4 pins on the plugs - but one is not
used).  Will that make a difference in the compatibility

I have the Spektrum module in my 9303 for ground use, Works great, a 9303
with all the mixers if you like stick radios for boats or cars this is the
way to go. They have a module for Airtronics as well. More of these are
showing up at the RC races and work awesome.
I "hear" they are working on a aircraft version so keep a ear out.

To be fair, the following comment from the manual should be noted:

   "Parkflyers Only:

The DX6 system is designed for parkflyer type aircraft
only. This includes all forms of compact electric and
non-powered airplanes as well as micro electric
helicopters. While the system has more than adequate range
for these types of aircraft, it is imperative that the
system not be used in larger aircraft that could exceed
   the range."

I was wondering about range also.
But the radio looks fantastic. And reasonably priced too!

And while there's little justification for an estabilished pilot with
multiple transmitters to buy one; if anyone does please give us a FULL
