[RCSE] Talk about low passes!

2008-03-13 Thread Charlie
I agree Buzz!
I flew thermals 90% of the time. And you really don't see the speed. But when
I did fly by a ridge at 120 knots, or more. Well, It's just one of them
feelings that stays with you for LIFE!

supporting our US Soaring teams with cash and merchandise, to support for
sponsored soaring pilots, and sponsorship of events like the Soaring Masters
and the JR AeroTow.

Thanks JR for your support.

[RCSE] TMSS/ESL Unlimited Contest May 17 and 18

2008-03-13 Thread Glaab, Louis J. (LARC-D205)
Good morning,

This is just a note to let you all know that the Tidewater Model Soaring
Society (TMSS) will open-up the Eastern Soaring League's (ESL's) 2008
Unlimited competition season on May 17 and May 18 in Isle of Wight, VA
(near Smithfield). The contest will have Sportsman, Expert, Novice,
Junior, and LSF-Ladder classes. This is our first ESL contest since
1999 and hope to build upon this year's experience, so come on out. The
LSF-Ladder class is an experimental event intended to engage a broader
section of the soaring community (see below for more details). Right
now, we are considering an open-winch/round format for everything except
the LSF-Ladder task. Lots of flying. Come on out and join us. CDs:
Josh Glaab and Reid Roberts.

http://www.soartmss.com/

The Ladder event is designed to provide a low-pressure competition for
those who are looking for LSF Thermal tasks as well as those who prefer
the pure-soaring aspect of our hobby (as opposed to split-second
approach and spot landings). For this event, pilots will time
themselves using a timer that will sound an alert when the task time is
reached and will be on their honor. The time will be non-precision,
meaning that if you fly for 5:35, you will get a perfect 5 minute score.
Note that a 4:35 would be a zero score. The League of Silent Flight
(LSF) Thermal Duration task times compose the Ladder (i.e. 5, 15, 30,
60, and the big one: 120 minutes). If you are a beginner, and need
another flyer to help coach, that is Ok, but please check with the CD.
Note: any type of sailplane is Ok to use in this event, 2M, Unlim,
woodies, RES, Moldies, things you found in the attic, things you found
in the backyard;-).

Unlike normal Thermal-Duration events, there is no need to worry about
the exact time of the flight, only that you exceed one of the flight
times and you do need to complete them in order. However, unlike other
Ladder events, you can keep racking-up 5 minute flights if you are
having trouble getting to the next step. For example, if pilot A
already has a 5 minute flight, but his next flight is a 9:15, he can
still count a 5 minute flight. This is done to provide positive
motivation for those in this group to fly, fly, fly (and also
necessitates the 1 pilot per frequency).

Landing tasks in the Ladder event are also a little different. For the
5-minute flights, the landing task is a 100-point in/out 3 meter (LSF
L-1) landing. For all other flights, the landing task is a 100-point
in/out 1.5 meter task. This is done to more effectively follow the LSF
pilot ladder guidelines.

Thanks, Josh.

[RCSE] 2 radios... Really GOOD Ones

2008-03-13 Thread schrederman

Either:

NIB 9C Super on ch2 w / everything but servos... and NIB FASST 7
channel system w / receiver... $500- shipped CONUS (cheapest I've seen
these Futaba set numbers is $399- and $249- + shipping)

NIB Futaba 9C Super set without FASST - $325 shipped CONUS (cheapest
I've seen this Futaba set number is $399- + shipping)

Or:

1-year-old JR 9303 Glider Version on ch49, w / JR 770 receiver, 2700
NiMh Tx pack... $450- shipped CONUS

I would prefer to sell the Futaba, as I am used to the JR and have
several airborne sets that work with it... but one or the other has to
go. I would prefer not to break these sets... especially the Futaba set.
If I am going to keep it, I will want the FASST system to go with it. I
will only sell the FASST ($200- shipped CONUS) separately if the Futaba
radio sells first.

Thanks

[RCSE] F3J in the Rockies

2008-03-13 Thread Jim Monaco
It looks like this years F3J in the Rockies, scheduled for May 24-25, will
be the largest ever. I have commitments for about 7-8 teams currently, and
we are limited to 12 teams (lanes) of 4 pilots each. If you want to try F3J
- this is the place to do it. We will have world class pilots competing,
including 3 teams comprised of members and support crew for the US team, 3
teams from RMSA with very strong pilots including Skip Miller. We have a
team from Albuquerque coming up, and the Canadian F3J team is strongly
considering attending. We will be allowing F3B winch launches instead of
hand towing. You must bring your own equipment. We also have 3 sets of
braided line club winches that we will allocate to teams on a first come
first serve basis. 2 of the 3 sets are already committed so we have one
left.

The US Team wants all the competition you can bring, so come on out and give
them a challenge.

This is a great event at a great location. Ask those who have attended in
the past, this is a fun event! If you do not have a team but still want to
come and play, sign up and I will find you a team to fly with. You can find
details at http://www.rmsadenver.com

Hope to see you there..

Jim

Looking for plans that will allow me to assemble my sailplane w/o having
to sit/knee on the ground(Arthur has visited me). I remember sometime back
someone had something that that had a stake of some time driven into the
ground and the cradle perched on top end of the stake. I'm flying both 2 and
3 piece wings planes.
