[RCSE] EZG Tow hook mod
How far back are you guys placing your tow hooks on the easy glider? What are you making your modified tow hooks out of? And how does it help the launch? Thanks, Jay
RE: [RCSE] EZG Tow hook mod
Hi Jay, For most flyers in our club, the tow hook is placed at the rear edge of the depression for the plastic tow hook. A piece of dowel or plywood is embedded in the foam centered at that spot. The tow hook is a standard screw cup hook from the hardware store. The cup hook is bent to yield a right angle and then screwed into the wood. Be careful. The antenna tube runs along the center line of the fuselage and lies only a short distance above the bottom surface. Avoid screwing the tow hook all the way through the wood into the antenna tube. -Dick From: Jay Hunter [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, March 30, 2008 2:02 AM To: RSCE Subject: [RCSE] EZG Tow hook mod How far back are you guys placing your tow hooks on the easy glider? Re: [RCSE] EZG Tow hook mod
Jay, I cut off the original hook and Dremeled the plastic base up into the fuse for a new tow hook mount. Then with my dremel cut open a slot 4.00 long X 3/4 wide and glued in, with 5 min epoxy, a 1/8 ply base for mounting an adjustable Airtronics tow hook. Right now my hook is set at the C/G which is 3.00 aft of the wing L/E and my launch height is as good as you could hope for. Also I have a 5/16 dia. carbon rod inside the f/glass wing spar for additional bending stiffness during launch and the 2.0 oz xtra weight of the carbon rod doesn't bother. Sand O/D of rod for a slip fit. Also you can use a steel rod instead of carbon for more ballast for windy weather. I used 5 min. epoxy for all assy. and it is just fine after one season. Winch launch is not a problem either. Regards, Dave Corven. -- Original message -- From: Jay Hunter [EMAIL PROTECTED] How far back are you guys placing your tow hooks on the easy glider? MessageI too just picked up a new Shadow. Having been away from the Soaring scene since last Sept, I had to treat my symptoms with a couple new F3X.COM Shadows. Documenting the progress as I put her together. Laptop in the Garage using 2.4g wireless router. Will post the build on RCgoups. This in addition to the 2 Pike Perfects I had just finish prior... well make that 2.5 Perfects. My first Perfect died a peculiar death, only the tips and stab are reusueable. Got replacement parts coming. Now as if that was not enough, I have just been exposed to another infectious disease... I think you call it F3F, been doing some reading on it. Pretty contagiously exciting stuff. Oh yeah, life is good. Anyway, hope we cross paths again, I could use a I Beat Gordy button, have a great weekend everyone. Just got home from soaring some in Tullahoma TN yesterday morning, and it being already about 5 oclock, I was slipping into soaring withdrawals when my Catahoula started barking her UPS bark. Sure enough, like a message from the soaring godsit was the new ship I'd been waiting for a few months to get. Can't wait to get started on it! Full house fully molded, but some assembly required as with most today. Its all white, so I'll have to add some color to it as usual. Totally 2.4 friendly fuse, so I'll be installing a Spektrum system in it likely. How about you guys? Any new planes arrive, or on their way for this season? Gordy Create a Home Theater Like the Pros.
