[RCSE] Sinha Deturbulators

2008-06-05 Thread quiet man
Been reading about them for years, with initial
skepticism, but growing excitement the past year or so.

This months SOARING has them featured in Bill Collum's
column, soaring tech, June 2008 page 19-22

Heady stuff!

I'm sure many here are aware already, and hopefully
some are already testing somewhere...

or maybe some already know why this isn't gonna work...

Re: [RCSE] (Gay?) Caballeros, 2.4, Attention Everyone, Including Gordy and Martin Usher

2008-06-05 Thread Martin

Martin, does that mean that the FASST system will operate on both 2.4Ghz and
72Mhz???

No. You could actually do frequency hopping and similar techniques at
72MHz but you'd annoy all the current users (and the FCC).

Techniques like FASST are similar to those that keep your (digital)
cordless phone from interfering with your neighbors' phones and any WiFi
that you and they are using.

All radio systems do is transmit information coded on some radio
frequency energy. One of the big tasks the receiver has to do is select
the wanted stream of information from every other one that's out there.
The original way -- and the one we've grown up with -- is by selecting
the base frequency that the information is encoded around, so you
'tuned' your radio. This is now very old school; we still do it for
older, legacy, equipment but its now not the way things are done, its to
inefficient.

One way of thinking about this is to raise the frequency of the radios
up a bit until they're so high they're using visible light. (Light is
the same sort of energy as radio, just a lot higher frequency.) Each
frequency -- channel -- corresponds to a different color. So the radio
we've grown up with is a bit like having a world where information --
say road signs -- are in different colors, with each person (or group of
people) having to use a color filter to pick what they want to see out
of what would otherwise be a lot of white light. Of course, we don't do
that in the real world. We use a mixture of color, shape and animation
to make a message stand out; this is our world so we don't think its
anything special. All that's happening with the radios is that they're
getting smart enough to use similar techniques.

The orange shirts thing is just a joke -- a playful dig; the idea is
that if you're wearing a shirt advertising a wonder product then you
really should be using same, not the product its supposed to be superseding.

RE: [RCSE] (Gay?) Caballeros, 2.4, Attention Everyone, Including Gordy and Martin Usher

2008-06-05 Thread Ed Anderson
Sheldon,

There are many transmitters that can work on both 2.4 and 72 MHz and many can
operate on 50, 40 and 35 MHz too. Most module based radio systems can be
switched to alternate frequency bands. I have a Futaba 9C, originally on 72 MHz
that can now operate on Spektrum 2.4 or be switched back to 72 MHz by swapping
the module. This is similar to swapping 72 MHz channel modules or changing your
72 MHz system to 40 or 35 MHz so you can fly in Europe.

Both Futaba and JR make module based versions of their hi-end 2.4 GHz systems
that can be switched to 72 MHz, by design. So there is nothing unique about
this capability in terms of Futaba or FASST systems. XPS, ASSAN and Spektrum
make module versions of their 2.4 GHz transmission section that can go in other
brands of transmitters.

Best regards,
Ed Anderson

[RCSE] WC Supras for sale (after the contest)

2008-06-05 Thread Daryl Perkins
As most of you know, I tend to sell my toys right after a contest - the Worlds is no different. I'm taking 3 virtually pristine Supras to represent US honor in about 2 1/2 weeks. I'll be selling 2 of them either at the contest, or upon my return. This trip is getting quite expensive, and we're still about 12 grand shy of our budget goals. The pilots make up that difference. The 2 I'll be selling will be the carbon lite versions. One is 62.5 ounces, the other is 63.5 ounces. Airtronics 761's all the way around. Ailerons go all the way to the tips. Color scheme is yellow over black. I've found this color scheme to offer the best visibility at the locations I fly. (And, it's kinda cool lookin'). I've got the Supra pretty well figured out, and if the buyer is a Stylus user, I will load my set up for you on your memory card, or send you mine. Ping me offline for pics, prices and details. On another note, Vladimir sent Barry an all carbon version made specially for me - same yellow and black color scheme, my name on the flap. I had originally ordered it, but cancelled it in lieu of a lightweight f/g version. I guess Vladimir never got the memo. If I could afford it, I'd snatch it up. It's a neat model... ping Barry for details. [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Yes I got my watch back - it actually never left. Thanks for all your support... After some Haitian research, turns out I have to cut the head off a live chicken and bathe the watch in the sweat of virgins to get the juju back -the chicken part's easy... but virgins? In Havasu? I don't know man...

For further support - please go tohttp://usf3jteam.comand buy something, would ya? ;-)

Thanks for the bandwidth

Give it a rest, you're two year too late!!! : [RCSE] Caballeros, 2.4, Attention Everyone,

2008-06-05 Thread Flying High
Martin and all,

Cect, I was flying on 72Mhz at the Toss contest
recently and I'd be glad to show you the 2.4Ghz radio gear
that I use on my glider, Heli's and other toys. Why fly on
72Mhz when my shirt says otherwise?!?!? BECAUSE IT WORKs
and I CAN! :-)
I fly on HAM gear as well, all FUTABA (go firure!?!), if
you pay close attention you'll see me use all the different
Futaba radios that are out and soon to be coming out to
Market (the secret stuff)... not just my trusty 8U radio on
72Mhz. All my radios are programmed to all items found in
my hanger, nice to be able to swap a simplie Rx and not
have to worry about wiskers sticking out of my stuff unlike
others!!!

RE: [RCSE] WC Supras for sale (after the contest)

2008-06-05 Thread Jim Monaco
I have just updated the budget and my current calculations are that we are
about 5K short of our goal. This is a TREMENDOUS accomplishment and I
continue to be impressed by the generosity of the soaring community. There
has been a flurry of activity in the raffle and merchandise recently which
has helped tremendously. We are now within reach of the goal and I am very
confident that the next few weeks with your continuing support we will bring
the team to WC fully funded. We have 13 official team members and a number
of self funded supporters that are attending the WC totaling an entourage of
23 people. I am now getting the butterflys in the stomach that accompany
the approach of the event. My job is not done until we arrive in Adapazzari
with all our people and equipment and bring home the world championship.

Thanks to all of YOU we will be well prepared.

Thanks again.

As most of you know, I tend to sell my toys right after a contest - the
Worlds is no different. I'm taking 3 virtually pristine Supras to represent
US honor in about 2 1/2 weeks. I'll be selling 2 of them either at the
contest, or upon my return. This trip is getting quite expensive, and we're
still about 12 grand shy of our budget goals. The pilots make up that
difference.

I'll be flying whiskerless in Poway this weekend with a 9C and a 2.4 module.
FASST works perfectly in my hand launch planes.

 Attention Everyone,

 Martin and all,

Cect, I was flying on 72Mhz at the Toss contest
recently and I'd be glad to show you the 2.4Ghz radio gear
that I use on my glider, Heli's and other toys. Why fly on
72Mhz when my shirt says otherwise?!?!? BECAUSE IT WORKs
 and I CAN! :-)
I fly on HAM gear as well, all FUTABA (go firure!?!), if
you pay close attention you'll see me use all the different
Futaba radios that are out and soon to be coming out to
Market (the secret stuff)... not just my trusty 8U radio on
72Mhz. All my radios are programmed to all items found in
my hanger, nice to be able to swap a simplie Rx and not
have to worry about wiskers sticking out of my stuff unlike
 others!!!

All I can say is it's going to create a nightmare for me
 when I do the NATS

 FASST systems fast -
no pun intended - going to wreak havoc is we put them in

Take a look at the following link and the 3-4

sailplanes, and I still feel IMHO that JR offers
 more flexibility and
better RX's for our competition sailplanes and
 large scale models
 with
multiple servos and high power requirements. I also
 don't often
venture in to the large aerobatic arena so it would
 be unfair for me
to comment on that phase of the hobby. I do know
 something about
Helicopters, and have always found that JR has had
 the best
flexibility and options for programming. Even with
 all the
 limitations
of the 12X over the 14, that guy Quique somehow
 manages to get the
12X to do enough that he is not embarrassed to show
 up at a contest.
Enough said I hope the Futaba is always good to
 you. Larry

[RCSE] F3X Garage Sale pt 1

2008-06-05 Thread Avaldes

Part 1:

I am putting my last Europhia 2V up for sale. This model was made for
me by my friend Martin Weberschock in Germany. It is an original
Europhia 2V, made by the guy who designed the airplane. Wing
construction is full F3B layup with carbon skins and UHM spars. Fuselage
is fiberglass with kevlar and carbon reinforcement. You can run the rx
antenna inside the fuse.

I flew this plane in the 2006 F3B team trials to make the US team. This
model met up with Dennis Phelan's model in distance and damaged the left
wing panel. I replaced the panel with another and sprayed the fuselage
blue. I flew my personal best of 14.51 with this model in the contest.
It is in excellent shape and I am selling it because I already have my
own F3B squadron in the garage.

The wings are outfitted with JR DS-368's on the ailerons and DS-3421's
on the flaps. The fuselage has Futaba S-9650's on the v-tails. I am also
including the 5 cell battery pack, 1200 mah if I recall.

Price is $1600 ready to fly. Just drop in your rx and go. I will also
give the buyer my setup details. This is the fastest way to get into a
competitive F3B model.

My edited message may not have gone through so he's a repeat:

I can easily change to channel 17 or 53 which are free on the list that

[RCSE] Re: IHLGF 2008 Pilots Roster and Frequency Assignments

2008-06-05 Thread gustabmo

On another subject:

I'm in ATL right now waiting for my connecting flight to SAN. One guy
from the group from Brazil, Mario de Lucca, didn't make it into the
flight cause his passport has expired. Luckily it seems like he managed
to get an extension and he'll be in the same flight arriving tomorrow,
so:

1) feel free to make jokes about having the planes ready but forgetting
to check the passport ;)

2) will somebody be driving from SAN to Poway tomorrow, friday, around
noon and could give Mario a ride? He'll probably arrive on Delta flight
1041 at 12:18hs.

3) if a ride is not available does somebody know what's the best way to
get from SAN to Poway (with a glider box) ? Taxi? Bus? Shuttle? Any info
would be appreciated!

If we have to go to the airport to get him we'd most probably loose the
beginning of the WAG so it would be great if he could come some other
way!

Mario's cell phone: +55-11-96145476

Thanks a lot,
Gustavo

Just a thought. How about putting the F3J web site address in your

[RCSE] joining wing halves

My new 2 meter hollow molded wing halves are in the vacume bag. Tomorrow I'll be working on spars, and T.E. spars. This weekend I'll be joining top and bottom halves. I want to join the left and right half wing halves together into a one piece wing. A 2 m wing fits in my Honda just fine. What is the best (lightest without breaking) way of joining left and right wing halves. ??Epoxy in a joiner and fiberglass the halves together?? Thanks, Rick
